This Is Officially The Unhealthiest Fast Food Chain In America Right Now
Every once in a while, hitting up the drive-thru or ordering your favorite indulgence from a fast food chain just slaps. A late-night cheeseburger and fries (obviously dipped in ice cream) is basically the stuff of dreams. Of course, I try to relegate myself to only a few treats a year (something that's become progressively harder as an editor at Delish). Fast food doesn't have a particularly healthy rap, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy it from time to time. However, some chains are worse offenders than others. World Atlas to the rescue! The site set out to find the unhealthiest fast food in America by reviewing "nutrition data, menu gimmicks, and marketing tactics at major chains," to determine the biggest offenders—and the results might surprise you. According to World Atlas, the top 10 unhealthiest options "routinely serve meals that can eclipse daily calorie limits in a single sitting while encouraging visits through bargain pricing and around-the-clock service." Sitting pretty at the top of the list? Wendy's. Both the chain's burgers and beloved Frostys are calorie-dense, with some of its promotional meals exceeding daily calorie, sodium, and fat recommendations in one fell swoop. But how did the rest of America's most iconic chains fare? Well, you can feel relatively good if you're a devout fan of Burger King, Shake Shack, or Arby's, which didn't make it to the top 10. Here's how the rest shook out. Top Ten Unhealthiest Fast Food Chains In America Wendy's: The Triple Baconator meal clocks in at over 2,000 calories, and the chain's deals and late-night hours encourage frequent overindulgence. Sonic: With massive portions and sugary drinks, like the 44-ounce Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Master Shake, Sonic packs an alarming calorie and sugar punch. Taco Bell: Its loaded burritos and combos sneak in sky-high calorie and sodium levels. Dairy Queen: Blizzards and fried combo baskets often push a single meal past the 2,000-calorie mark. KFC: A three-piece Extra Crispy combo delivers about a full day's worth of salt, saturated fat, and calories in one go. Quiznos: Oversized subs like the Classic Italian hit about 1,300 calories and pack in excessive sodium, making it a heavy nutritional load. McDonald's: A standard Big Mac meal can hit 1,300 calories, thanks to its fries and soda pairings. Smashburger: Stacked burgers like the BBQ Bacon Cheddar burger, plus decadent shakes, make this chain a caloric heavyweight. Little Caesars: One pepperoni pizza—marketed as an everyday meal—can supply more calories and salt than most people should consume in a day. Chick-fil-A: Meals like the fried chicken sandwich with waffle fries quietly deliver major calorie counts, but not as high as others on this list. Quiznos Brings Toasty Subs to Alpena with First-of-Its-Kind Restaurant Launch
New, modular, Qube location opened May 7, delivering high-quality offerings and a brand-new option for Northeast Michigan diners DENVER, May 08, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Quiznos, the iconic brand known for its chef-inspired toasted subs since 1981, is proud to announce the grand arrival of its first Qube concept location in Michigan, which opened in Alpena on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 320 Johnson St. This marks not only a debut in the Alpena market, but also Quiznos' first-ever Qube location. Developed by BCubed Manufacturing in conjunction with Quiznos' parent company, REGO Restaurant Group, the Qube model is an innovative new modular restaurant footprint designed to enable faster, more efficient construction, streamlined operations, and an enhanced guest experience focused on drive-thru, digital, and walk-up customers. "The launch of the Qube marks a pivotal moment in Quiznos' growth strategy, and we're thrilled that Alpena, Michigan, is where this new chapter begins," said Neel Patel, CEO of REGO Restaurant Group. "This innovative new footprint is engineered to quickly unlock attractive new opportunities for current and future franchisees. We're excited to share our beloved toasted subs with the Alpena Qmmunity and showcase how the Qube redefines convenience, making our delicious, high-quality food more accessible than ever." With approximately 650-sq ft layouts designed for flexibility and efficiency, restaurants opened using the "Qube" concept include both drive-thru and walk-up windows optimized for both delivery and pick-up. The Qube is designed to offer maximum flexibility, enabling operators to develop on parcels of land too small for traditional restaurants. Qube restaurants contribute to a lower cost structure that supports labor and operating cost efficiencies, and includes features that will allow for testing of self-serving lockers and kiosk ordering in the near future. The modular restaurants are readily manufactured off-site and then shipped fully equipped, pre-wired, pre-plumbed and inspected to any site, dramatically reducing the development timeline. Quiznos' Alpena location has a menu with many of the traditional Quiznos favorites, like the Chicken Carbonara and Classic Italian subs, as well as a few location-specific offerings such as Philly Fries or Tots, which are topped with Black Angus Steak, sauteed peppers & onions, queso blanco and banana peppers, the crispy chicken tenders meal and sub, and the Belgian waffle for dessert. The opening is being led by Jeff Konczak, owner of BCubed Manufacturing and a respected local developer and owner of several prominent Alpena revitalization projects. Konczak is new to the Quiznos brand, bringing valuable franchise experience as the operator of four nearby Biggby Coffee locations, one of which is also part of the multi-unit development, and is an integral member of the Alpena community. "A brand like Quiznos, with its strong potential for continued growth, is the ideal partner for the introduction of the BCubed structure," said Konczak. "This partnership will drive expansion for both brands. Alpena is also growing and developing, making it the perfect place to launch this exciting collaboration." The Alpena location is the sixth Quiznos in the state, but the first in Northeast Michigan, with the nearest location more than three hours away. Konczak said the Qube concept aligns perfectly with Alpena's downtown development vision. The grand opening was held on May 7. Alpena residents can expect a fresh new dining option that brings together convenience, innovation, and the bold, high-quality food flavors that Quiznos is known for. Your Stories Q&A: When will the new Joey's restaurant open in DeWitt?
DEWITT, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) – You ask, we answer! Viewer Question: When will Joey's open its new restaurant? We have an update to a story we first brought you last spring, on Joey's building a new restaurant. Located on Thompson Road, near Carrier Circle, Joey's has been a fan favorite for more than 40 years. Owner Bill Cleary is in the middle of building a 6,300 square feet restaurant, right next to its current location. It's being built where Big Mama's Cheesecake used to operate. That business has since moved to its new Salina location at 500 Old Liverpool Road. Courtesy of Walton Architectural Group. Cleary was hoping to open the new restaurant by the end of last year, but the winter weather has pushed back the timeline. Cleary said the goal now is to get the restaurant open in May. He said right before it opens, the current Joey's will be demolished and crews will spend about two weeks finishing up final details before unveiling the new spot to guests. He added that Joey DeCuffa and his family will continue to run the new restaurant. He said that the new space will offer more room, be more accessible and have a better flow than the current building. The new location will also feature a wine cellar. 'The food will all be the same with the daytime menu being similar to Pronto Joey's and at dinner time, the white tablecloths come out, with the lights turned down to give you Joey's Classic Italian atmosphere,' Cleary told us last spring.
