Claude AI Can Now Search And Reference Past Conversations

Claude is one of the main AI competitors to ChatGPT and Gemini, but Anthropic's chatbot doesn't necessarily offer feature parity with its rivals. For example, Anthropic released web search, deep research support, and voice mode in previous months, features that had been available in ChatGPT well before they made it to Claude. Fast-forward to mid-August, and Claude received a big memory upgrade that allows the chatbot to reference past chats. The feature is similar to a ChatGPT capability that allows the AI to reference past chats. Claude's "Search and reference chats" feature started rolling out on Monday across web, desktop, and mobile. Anthropic detailed the new feature in an updated support document that explains how Claude personalization works. The AI's ability to search past chats and reference those conversations isn't identical to ChatGPT's broad memory feature that can remember things about the user. Claude's chat memory isn't persistent, as it only works on a chat-by-chat basis. Read more: 5 Expert Tips To Get The Most Out Of ChatGPT Every Time You Use It How To Enable Claude's Search And Reference Chats Feature Anthropic on Monday started rolling out the new "Search and reference chats" feature to Claude Max, Team, and Enterprise users. The AI firm said it will expand it to other plans "soon." The example in the YouTube video above shows how Claude's chat memory feature will work. A user asks the AI what they were working on before their vacation, and Claude performs a search to identify the conversations that qualify. Claude discovers five results, listing them in the chat and providing a summary to the user so they can decide what topic to resume. To enable Claude's "Search and reference chats" feature, you'll have to go to the "Settings" menu in the app, click on "Profile," and find the "Preferences" section. In there, you'll have to enable the "Search and reference chats" feature by clicking the toggle. You can toggle off the feature if you want to prevent Claude from searching and referencing past chats. How Claude's Chat Memory Works Anthropic explains in the support document that Claude can perform searches in your chat history to find relevant conversations with the AI that can add context to the current chat and "keep your conversation flowing." However, Claude will not remember things about you like ChatGPT's broader memory feature does. Anthropic spokesperson Ryan Donegan informed BGR that Claude's new search functionality isn't persistent memory. Claude will not build a user profile. It will only perform searches when you instruct it to. Claude can search for any chat outside of projects or search within projects. In the second scenario, searches are limited to that project. Anthropic also explains that users can't exclude distinct chats from the search feature. The only way to ensure that specific conversations with the AI do not resurface in Claude searches is to delete them. You can disable "Search and reference chats" to prevent Claude from referencing chats you don't want the AI to find. But this method will not let you look for any old chats you might need. Comparatively, ChatGPT won't let you enable its "Reference chat history" feature that matches Claude's new memory ability without also turning on the "Reference saved memories" feature. The latter is OpenAI's broader memory feature for its chatbot. Also, OpenAI made available the memory features to ChatGPT Free users a few months ago. Read the original article on BGR.

Anthropic unveils new rate limits to curb Claude Code power users

Anthropic says its rolling out new weekly rate limits for Claude to curb usage among subscribers who are running its AI coding tool, Claude Code, 'continuously in the background, 24/7.' Anthropic says the rate limits also aim to stop a handful of users who are violating Claude's usage policy by sharing accounts and reselling access to Claude Code. The new rate limits will go into effect August 28 for subscribers to Anthropic's $20-per-month Pro plan, as well as its $100 and $200-per-month Max plans, the company said Monday in an email to subscribers and a post on X. We're rolling out new weekly rate limits for Claude Pro and Max in late August. We estimate they'll apply to less than 5% of subscribers based on current usage. — Anthropic (@AnthropicAI) July 28, 2025 Anthropic says its existing usage limits, which reset every five hours, will remain in place. The company is also introducing two new weekly rate limits that reset every seven days; one is an overall usage limit, whereas the other is specific to Anthropic's most advanced AI model, Claude Opus 4. Anthropic says Max subscribers can purchase additional usage, beyond what the rate limit provides, at standard API rates. The announcement comes just weeks after Anthropic quietly introduced rate limits for Claude Code. The company said at the time it was aware of the issues, but declined to elaborate further. While Anthropic's AI coding tool has a been a hit with developers, the company seems to be having a difficult time serving it broadly. Anthropic's status page shows that Claude Code has experienced a partial or major outage at least seven times in the last month — perhaps because some power users seem to be running Claude Code nonstop. Anthropic has said before that it's very constrained when it comes to computational resources, which seems to be the case for most AI model providers today. Most AI companies are racing to bring new AI data centers online to meet the massive demands of serving and training their AI models. Several providers of AI coding tools are revisiting the pricing strategy around their products. In June, the company behind Cursor, Anysphere, changed the way it priced usage for its $20-per-month Pro plan to limit power users from abusing the plan. However, Anysphere later apologized for poorly communicating those changes, leading to some users paying more than they expected. Another AI coding tool provider, Replit, made similar pricing changes in June as well. Anthropic did immediately respond to TechCrunch's question around the details of the rate limits. Most Pro users can expect 40-80 hours of Sonnet 4 within their weekly rate limits, according to Anthropic. However, Anthropic notes that usage may vary based on codebase size and other factors. In an email to Claude subscribers, Anthropic says it's committed to 'supporting long-running use cases through other options in the future.' However, the company claims these rate limits will help them maintain reliable service broadly in the short term.

Anthropic Launches $200 Claude AI Plan as It Seeks $2 Billion in Funding

Anthropic is introducing two new subscription plans for its Claude chatbot, stepping into the premium AI space shortly after OpenAI launched a $200-per-month plan for ChatGPT. The new Claude Max plans are priced at $100 and $200 per month. Anthropic said the $100 tier is designed for people who use Claude regularly for a range of tasks, while the $200 option is better suited for those who depend on the chatbot daily. Warning! GuruFocus has detected 1 Warning Sign with MSFT. The subscription launch follows February's release of Claude 3.7 Sonnet, which the company described as the first hybrid AI model. The update blends strengths from earlier versions to offer more reliable responses and stronger reasoning. Anthropic is also looking to raise $2 billion in fresh funding, Bloomberg reported. The new round could value the San Francisco-based company at $60 billion, showing just how much investor interest in advanced AI tools is growing. Amazon (AMZN, Financials) has already poured $4 billion into Anthropic, including a $2.75 billion investment made in March. Google and Salesforce (CRM, Financials) have also backed the company, as tech giants race to grab a piece of the booming AI sector. The shift to paid plans mirrors what others in the space are doing. OpenAI, backed by Microsoft (MSFT, Financials), recently rolled out a $200-per-month ChatGPT Pro plan with expanded access to its latest model, aimed at professionals and power users. With these moves, Anthropic is clearly gearing up for the next phase of competition in AIone where capabilities matter, but so does a solid business model. This article first appeared on GuruFocus.
