England vs Spain: Head-to-head record ahead of Women's EURO 2025 Final

A title game between defending champion England and World Cup winner Spain is the Women's European Championship final. Spain has mostly cruised through its five games except for a late scare in a tense semifinal against Germany. England has trailed for long periods of three games and survived being on the brink of elimination in both knockout games. Here's a look at the head-to-head record of England vs Spain before they face off in Basel, Switzerland on Sunday for a shot at the European crown: England vs Spain head-to-head record Matches played: 19 England wins: 8 Draws: 6 Spain wins: 5 England vs Spain head-to-head record in Women's Euros Matches played: 9 England wins: 3 Draws: 4 Spain wins: 2 The last time the two sides met was in the UEFA Nations League earlier this year. A Claudia Pina brace helped Spain beat England 2-1. The teams also met in the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup final where Olga Carmona's goal was enough to crown the Spanish world champions.

England ready to meet challenge of 'fantastic' Spain in Euro 2025 final

"Tomorrow we play a game against the world champions who continue to prove themselves over and over in the way that they play football," Williamson told reporters at Basel's St Jakob-Park on the eve of the game. "They are a fantastic footballing team, they are the best at what they do, and we are very much aware of that but we think we are pretty good in some areas as well. "We need to be at our best to beat Spain but I think they will need to be at their best to beat us too. "I think there is a lot of respect between the two teams, and I'd be hesitant to say we are underdogs in this scenario." England are hoping to retain the European Championship title they won on home soil in 2022, but the match is also a repeat of the 2023 World Cup final, in which Spain triumphed 1-0 in Sydney. There is a growing rivalry between the nations, with England winning in extra time when they clashed in the quarter-finals at Euro 2022. The sides have also already faced each other twice this year in the UEFA Nations League, with England winning 1-0 at Wembley in February. Spain avenged that result by claiming a 2-1 victory in Barcelona at the beginning of last month, when Claudia Pina scored twice after Alessia Russo had given England the lead. "We have played each other a lot over the last couple of years and I think you always have learnings from the games we have played," said England coach Sarina Wiegman. "Tomorrow is a new situation where we have an opportunity to hopefully take out their strengths a bit and exploit some of their weaknesses too." England have been sweating on the fitness of Lauren James for the final after she came off with an ankle injury during the last-four win over Italy, but Wiegman indicated that the winger is in line to feature on Sunday. "We had 23 players on the pitch today and everyone came through," said the Dutch coach. Chloe Kelly and young striker Michelle Agyemang are pushing for starts after making impacts off the bench in the comeback wins against both Sweden and Italy in the last two rounds. Williamson, though, believes James has a lot to offer. "We have a team of talented players. Lauren brings something slightly different, obviously having her available is the best-case scenario," said the Arsenal centre-back.

England vs Spain predictions: Women's Euro 2025 final tips and odds

Our expert has three tips for the Women's Euro 2025 final on Sunday between England and Spain at St Jakob-Park in Basel (kick-off, 5pm BST). We think the Lionesses could fall short against the world champions. England vs Spain tips Spain to win @ 3/4 with bet365 Claudia Pina to score or assist @ 11/10 with bet365 Lucy Bronze to be carded @ 8/1 with bet365 Odds courtesy of bet365 Correct at the time of publication and subject to change. Match details World champions look too strong Sunday's battle in Basel between England and Spain is a repeat of the 2023 Women's World Cup final – and it could also produce a repeat of the result. Olga Carmona's first-half strike two years ago in Sydney gave Spain a 1-0 win and their first Women's World Cup triumph and they are understandably favourites at 2/5 to become European champions for the first time. After sweeping aside Portugal, Belgium and Italy by an aggregate scoreline of 14-3 in the group stage, Spain have handled the occasion of tighter games with Switzerland and Germany well. Extra time was required to see off the Germans, who were happy to play physical and scrappy football to disrupt the flow of Spain's midfield machine, but England are not as well suited to operating in that way. There have been glaring issues throughout this tournament for the Lionesses, who struggled to handle the pace of France and Sweden's forwards, losing 2-1 to the former and requiring penalties to beat the latter after trailing 2-0 until the 79th minute. As recently as last month, Spain beat England 2-1 in the Women's Nations League. Their midfield has become even more polished under Montse Tome and they have attacking quality in abundance, managing 120 shots and scoring 17 goals in five games at this tournament. England, reliant on super-subs at Euro 2025, could well take La Roja to extra time but the 3/4 on offer for a Spain win in normal time is worth taking. Pina ready to strike Barcelona winger Claudia Pina has been one of the standout players at Euro 2025 and looks a good pick at 11/10 to score or assist. No player has had more shots on target at this tournament than Pina (10), who has two goals and two assists to her name. Pina also bagged both goals against England in the Women's Nations League last month and should cause problems for a leaky Lionesses rearguard. Bronze could have her hands full Few players wear their heart on their sleeve more than England right-back Lucy Bronze and it is surprising she has not been cautioned during her team's chaotic run to the final of Euro 2025. That is made more surprising by the fact she has committed 11 fouls in the competition, more than any other player except Germany's Elisa Senß (13). And while she is clearly adept at not getting carded, the 8/1 on offer for her to be booked in a final that is likely to be tense and high-octane looks pretty big. Bronze may not be able to get forward as much as she wants in this game as she will be up against a frightening Spanish left side featuring Pina, star midfielder Alexia Putellas and full-back Carmona. Carmona loves to get forward and create overlapping runs, while Putellas (seven) has been fouled more times than any other Spain player at the tournament, so Bronze may be drawn into making a few cynical challenges. A look at the last five meetings between Euro 2025 finalists England and Spain

Here, the PA news agency goes through the last five meetings between the two sides. ENGLAND 0-0 SPAIN – FEBRUARY 2022 England's wait for an Arnold Clark Cup win went on following a goalless draw (Joe Giddens/PA) England maintained their unbeaten run under Sarina Wiegman with a goalless draw with Spain at Carrow Road. The Lionesses' wait for a first Arnold Clark Cup win went on after they hit a post through substitute Lauren Hemp while Jordan Nobbs and all-time top scorer Ellen White were also denied. ENGLAND 2-1 SPAIN – JULY 2022 England booked their place in the semi-finals of the European Women's Championship after coming from behind to beat the pre-tournament favourites in extra time in Brighton. Ella Toone stepped off the bench and volleyed in the equaliser in the 84th minute after Esther Gonzalez gave Spain the lead but they continued to probe for a winner before extra time. England managed to shift the momentum in extra time and made the pressure count just six minutes into the additional 30 courtesy of Georgia Stanway's screamer which lifted the roof off the Amex Stadium. The Lionesses secured a semi-final clash with Sweden and went on to win the tournament. SPAIN 1-0 ENGLAND – AUGUST 2023 Carmona struck to give Spain victory in the World Cup final (Zac Goodwin/PA) In the biggest meeting in the history of the two sides, Spain broke England hearts the last time the two teams played in a final at the 2023 World Cup in Australia. Spain's Olga Carmona slotted the all-important winner past goalkeeper Mary Earps in the first half after Lucy Bronze had given away possession in midfield. Spain had a chance to double their advantage after Keira Walsh handled inside the area but Earps saved Jennifer Hermoso's penalty with 20 minutes to go of the contest in a timely boost for England. England piled on the pressure late on but were unable to find the equaliser and England will be looking to gain revenge in another final this time around. ENGLAND 1-0 SPAIN – FEBRUARY 2025 England avenged their World Cup final defeat 18 months later with a 1-0 victory at Wembley Stadium. It was the first time the two teams had met since Spain beat England in the 2023 Women's World Cup final and Jess Park struck in the first half after she put in the rebound from Alessia Russo's initial strike. Spain had chances through Ballon d'Or winner Aitana Bonmati, Claudia Pina and Lucia Garcia but England held firm to deliver their revenge. SPAIN 2-1 ENGLAND – JUNE 2025 Claudia Pina scored twice for Spain in their latest win over England (Nick Potts/PA) The two sides met just over a month ago as Claudia Pina's brace helped Spain come from behind to earn a 2-1 win over England in Barcelona and deny them a place in the Nations League finals. Spain were dominant throughout the early stages but Russo gave England a lead against the run of play when she latched onto Walsh's pass and slotted beyond Cata Coll. England were on course for the finals until Pina was introduced and she made her mark with an equaliser just two minutes after coming on. The 23-year-old Barcelona striker then completed the turnaround 10 minutes later with a sensational strike from 25 yards which handed Spain a deserved win which will be fresh in the mind when the teams line up on Sunday evening.

England vs Spain – Women's EURO 2025 final: Get £50 in free bets with Betfred, plus our bet builder tips

ENGLAND and Spain will face off in the UEFA Women's Euro 2025 final this Sunday in a repeat of the 2023 World Cup final. To mark the epic finale, our team of betting experts has put together a colossal 40/1 Bet Builder for the encounter, courtesy of Betfred. And there's more - new customers who sign up with Betfred and place a £10 bet on football will receive £50 in free sports bets. England vs Spain tips Our Bet Builder selections: Chloe Kelly and Claudia Pina to score, and the match to be drawn after 90 minutes at 40/1. Here's why we've made those selections.. Draw: As seen in both semi-final ties, high-stakes encounters at this stage tend to be tight, cagey affairs. Expect no different in the final, where two evenly matched sides face off once more. Since 2019, they've met seven times, with no match decided by more than a single goal and two draws recorded in their last five head-to-heads. Chloe Kelly to Score: Arsenal star Chloe Kelly has been one of England's standout players during the knockout stages. After coming off the bench to provide two assists against Sweden, she netted a dramatic extra-time winner against Italy in the semi-final. She is expected to remain on spot-kick duty and could again prove decisive as an impact substitute against tired defenders. Claudia Pina to Score: Spain's Claudia Pina has been in electric form, with two goals and two assists from just four starts. No player in the tournament has registered more shots on target than the 23-year-old (10), eclipsing the combined tally of England's Lauren James and Lauren Hemp (8). Pina also netted a brace against England in a recent June fixture.
