DEWA Inaugurates Second Cycle of Cleantech Innovators Exhibition at UAE Innovates 2025

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has officially inaugurated the second cycle of the Cleantech Innovators exhibition at its Sustainability and Innovation Centre. This event is part of 'UAE Innovates 2025', the 10th edition of the UAE's innovation month. The exhibition showcases cutting-edge solutions from local and international companies, focusing on sustainability and clean energy technologies. HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, was briefed on the latest innovations presented by major global players including Huawei, Siemens Energy, JinkoSolar, and ABB Ltd. The technologies featured in the exhibition cover critical areas such as green hydrogen, AI, solar technology, and energy storage solutions, all contributing to global efforts in combating climate change and shaping a sustainable future. Al Tayer also reviewed the innovations from the winners of the second cycle of the CleanTech Hackathon. The Hackathon received 160 applications from 25 countries and 20 universities, highlighting groundbreaking technologies aimed at improving the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of clean energy. Al Tayer commended these solutions for their potential to enhance renewable energy systems and drive integration into existing infrastructures. The Sustainability and Innovation Centre has emerged as a global platform for energy sustainability, climate action, and knowledge exchange. It fosters international collaboration and promotes investment in the latest sustainable technologies, with a key focus on advancing Dubai's and the UAE's goal of achieving net-zero emissions. Organized as part of the 'UAE Innovates 2025' initiative, the hackathon brought together companies, university students, and experts in sustainable innovation to present solutions aimed at tackling climate change and promoting environmental sustainability. This year's cycle focused on innovative projects in desalination, decarbonization, digitization, energy efficiency, and carbon emission reduction, all integrating digital technologies into sustainable systems. The initiative aligns with DEWA's goals under the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Dubai's Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which targets 100% clean energy production by 2050. Hydrowind Energy (UAE) for clean electricity and seawater desalination. Ecobeat (UAE) for AI-powered water and energy management. DoGood People (Spain) for a sustainability empowerment platform. DEWA launches 3rd cycle of CleanTech Hackathon

The Sustainability and Innovation Centre of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) organised the third cycle of the CleanTech Hackathon, with the participation of 193 applications from 7 countries. This is a part of DEWA's participation in 'UAE Innovates 2025'. The competition attracted companies and creative minds, including innovators and university students from around the world, as well as specialists in sustainable innovation. This cycle focused on innovative solutions to mitigate climate change, reduce water scarcity worldwide and promote environmental sustainability. Participating projects were centred on desalination, decarbonisation, digitisation, increased energy efficiency, carbon emission reduction and the integration of digital technology into sustainable systems. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, said, 'The Sustainability and Innovation Centre supports our efforts to achieve the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 to provide 100% of the Emirate's energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050. The winners of the third cycle of the CleanTech Hackathon are Hueck Solar Energy – Germany, for a new concentrated solar power (CSP) technology; Econano Water Treatment – UAE for a technology that uses metal-doped ZnO nanoparticles and solar energy to purify water; Hydrowind Energy – UAE for solutions to address clean electricity, grid-scale energy storage, and seawater desalination; Ecobeat- UAE for AI-powered solution designed to water and energy management; DoGood People- Spain, a platform established with the purpose of empowering individuals to turn sustainability into a tangible reality. The first cycle of the CleanTech Hackathon witnessed the participation of 100 participants from diverse scientific and professional backgrounds.
