Wooden floors will be scratch-free and gleaming in minutes with £1 fridge item
Wooden flooring can get scratched, stained and covered in dust quickly
Wooden floors are a durable flooring option because they tolerate a lot of wear, including spills, scuffs, and scratches from pets and children. However, if hardwood floors are not cleaned properly, they can scratch easily or become dull quickly.
According to cleaning experts, there's a simple kitchen ingredient that could solve all your cleaning mishaps, and you've likely already got it in the fridge. A group member of the Cleaning Tips and Tricks Facebook page asked how to remove scratches and water stains from their hardwood flooring, and several people backed the unusual suggestion.
Divya Kharisma wrote: 'Help. I will be moving out of my current flat at the end of the month, and I need to remove the scratches and water stains from the wooden floor before the cleaning inspection. Is there anything that can be done to remove it, as it appears to have dried up?'
Julie Jackson claimed, 'Mayonnaise will work wonders. Smother it on and leave it as long as you can. The oil in it does the trick.'
Sandra Pollendine said: 'Full-fat mayonnaise and leave for half an hour and then buff with a soft cloth after.' Valerie Williams wrote: 'Mayonnaise left overnight, tried and tested, just wipe off.'
Sharon Hale recalled, 'I had a similar mark on my wooden cabinet. I used mayonnaise and rubbed it in with a cloth. It came up like new!'
Collette Bolton replied: 'Mayonnaise is brilliant. Clean first and make sure it is dry before applying.'
Ann Baker said: 'I got rid of scratches on my wooden table with mayonnaise. Worth a try. It even got rid of the dust for a while.'
Experts at Cleaning Pro agreed that this method could revive wooden floors, reports the Express. They said, 'Believe it or not, mayonnaise is an effective scuff remover and dust repellent.
'Using a soft cloth, gently rub a small amount of mayo on the scuffed spot and let it soak in for five to 10 minutes before wiping clean.'
They pointed out that the oils in mayonnaise help lift dirt from the abrasions and give shiny, dust-free results.

Experts at Luxury Living Fort Lauderdale also recently shared another easy way to restore natural floors' shine and keep them clean: all you need are some teabags.
They said: 'Throughout history, black tea has been used to mop hardwood floors. The tanic acid in black tea helps clean and add shine otherwise dull, old flooring.'
Black tea is an old-school method of cleaning wooden floors. It contains tannins, which are acidic, so they can easily cut through dirt, dust, and grease buildup.
It naturally shines wood to make the floor look polished and also slightly darken minor scratches to help make them less noticeable.
Tea cannot fill in a deep scratch to make it disappear, but it can help blend a surface-level scratch with the surrounding wood to improve the floor's overall appearance.
