Clearwater hosts Indian festival market
Clearwater Mall transformed its upper-level parking area into a vibrant celebration of Indian culture with the launch of the Made in India Market on 1 August. Open daily from 10:00 to 21:00 until 17 August, the market welcomes shoppers from all walks of life for just a R10 entrance fee. The market showcases traditional goods, festive treats, and cultural treasures straight from India, as all exhibitors are Indian export manufacturers. As you walk through the stalls, exquisite Indian clothing, suitable for the whole family, decorates the stalls, ranging from embroidered Sarees, lehengas, and salwar suits for women, tailored sherwanis, kurta sets, and Nehru jackets for men, and bright silks and sequins for children. According to Amit Dev Chopra, the market organiser, they have been doing exhibitions in South Africa since 2006, and they receive a lot of love from South Africans, which is the reason why they have kept the relationship for more than 20 years. 'It's like our second home,' he said. 'We have these markets in almost 25 countries, including other African countries like Botswana and Maputo. South Africa is one of the biggest African nations in which we have the maximum number of Indians,' Amit said. To make sure they make clothes that are currently in style, Amit shared that they do research and development to find out what the latest fashion trends are, and then they manufacture those styles and ship them to other countries. 'Before, people used to go to India to buy things for their weddings and other celebrations, but now they don't travel because you can find everything at our exhibition, as we've got exhibitors from all over India,' Amit expressed. Apart from fashion, the market caters to every aspect of Diwali preparations. Visitors can browse ornate puja items, brass lamps, diya sets, incense, and prayer accessories. Handcrafted home décor, intricate jewellery, and colourful tableware can also be found at the market. Speciality stalls offer everything needed for Indian households and ceremonies, including spices, dried fruits, decorative rangoli powders, and garlands. Food is also a highlight, as four chefs have come to prepare and fill the space with the aroma of freshly made samosas, jalebi, and mutton and chicken biryani. Shoppers can also treat themselves and enjoy authentic Indian street food and have a taste of the top trending savoury-sweet at the moment, which is the pani puri, also known as water bowl or flavoured water.

Clearwater Race celebrates birthday with new distance
Clearwater Mall is turning 21 this year, and to celebrate that, they are adding a 21km distance for the very first time to their usual 5km and 10km races. The race will be held on Saturday, August 23, in collaboration with Panorama Running Club and other organisers, and it promises to be bigger than before. This event is now 11 years old, and this is the only event that has a king and queen for both the 10km and 21km – the first man and woman to reach the highest point on both routes. The winners receive extra prize money and recognition. According to Gangatha Mkele, the Panorama Running Club's chairperson, participants can expect to win big this year. The first 2 000 people to sign up will get a goodie bag, and there will be prizes on the day of the event. Special edition T-shirts with a secret on them are also available for purchase at the price of R220. 'The race is well-organised and has been going on for more than 20 years. There will also be official pacers for both the 10km and 21km races,' Gangatha explains. The race is suitable for everyone, whether you are an experienced runner, a beginner, or just looking to beat your own record. The 5km Fun Run is a fantastic family-friendly event, and participants can expect it to offer a great opportunity for kids and adults alike to unplug from screens, and participants can expect to enjoy a fun, active day outdoors. Meanwhile, the 10km race winds through the breathtaking Little Falls route, making it an enjoyable challenge for both casual walkers and experienced runners. The new 21km route has undulating hills that make it a moderate but rewarding challenge for those who want a tougher test. 'The race is hard, but you can do it if you pace yourself and respect the terrain,' Gangatha says. There will be stocked late-race hydration tables with water and energy drinks at every kilometre of the race to help runners throughout the race. The volunteers will also cheer on the runners to boost their morale. To register online, visit or register in person at Clearwater Mall at the info court on August 21 and 22 from 15:00 to 19:00. The last chance for entries will be on August 23 at 05:30 at entrance five.
