Fashion editors' top tips on how to style the nineties Bermuda shorts trend that's having a resurgence
We've found a great pair from Primark for under £20 that has pockets and belt loops! LONG & SHORT OF IT Fashion editors' top tips on how to style the nineties Bermuda shorts trend that's having a resurgence WHETHER you're looking for something new to add to your summer workwear wardrobe, or want another option for your holiday, the Bermuda style could be for you. With their longer length and versatility, the '90s shorts style has been trending for a few years, and they're not going anywhere this summer. Advertisement From smart pleated pairs perfect for the office or events, to relaxed denim versions that make a great swap for your usual jeans, there's something for everyone. Our Fashion team has rounded up their top picks from the high street, plus how to style them. Clemmie Fieldsend, 34, Fashion Editor 4 Clemmie's found a bargain with this denim pair from a supermarket brand Credit: This season, I've switched up my beloved denim cut-offs for a longer style - enter the Jort. I love F&F jeans, so it only seemed fitting to give their bargain £18 pair a whirl - and I'm so glad I did, as I love them! Advertisement They're just as comfortable as my trusty jeans and look so stylish when dressed up with a crisp white blazer. M&S stores are rammed with tons of sizes of all its stock, because of its online struggles, so it's never been a better time to shop in-person. It was love at first sight with this blazer, and I know I'll wear it hundreds of times throughout the summer, to work or on holiday. I've paired them with these New Look heels I already have in my wardrobe that are comfortable for the nine-to-five (trust me!), and this designer-inspired bag from H&M makes an effortlessly summery look. Advertisement Finally, I'll add a flash of colour with this stunning Abbott Lyon jade green necklace. Abby McHale, 30, Deputy Fashion Editor 4 Abby has found her perfect Bermudas in the colour of the season, pale yellow Credit: Gone are the days when I used to pull out my very short denim shorts for the summer - these days, I'm all about the longer length. Which is why the Bermuda style is great for me. Advertisement I love this belted yellow pair from & Other Stories - not only is pale yellow one of the big colours this season, but the belt also gives me some extra shape at the waist. While these shorts are fairly smart, I've made the look a little more casual with a graphic T-shirt (this one is a bargain at just £12.99) and some flat fisherman sandals. With an extra pop of print thanks to this Damson Madder leopard bag and a pair of sunnies, this is a look I'll be wearing on repeat all summer long. Tracey Lea Sayer, 53, Fashion Director 4 Tracey's Bermuda shorts come as part of a co-ord set with a matching jacket Credit: Advertisement I love a tailored short suit for when the temperature soars in the city, because it is the perfect alternative to a trouser suit. This summer, it's all about Bermuda shorts - a longer, baggier style than I am used to, but I definitely want to give them a go. While in my head I dream of being that cool COS model who wears their Bermudas low-slung and skater style, the fact is that my mum-tum will pop over the top, which is so not cool! So, I have gone for a smarter option. Advertisement These long-line pleated shorts give great coverage around my waistline, plus they feel office-appropriate because of the longer length. I've teamed the suit with buttermilk accessories and a pair of Le Specs sunnies. Summer in the city? Bring it on! Emily Regan, 25, Fashion Assistant 4 Emily proves that Bermudas can work for your holiday wardrobe Credit: Advertisement I've enjoyed wearing Bermuda shorts in my workwear wardrobe for a couple of years now, and recently I switched them in for my denim pair while on holiday. If you're yet to try the trend and don't want to spend a fortune, this cream pair from Primark's Edit range is under £20. The shorts are super-versatile and come complete with pockets and belt loops. I've styled them with this gorgeous printed shirt from H&M, matching beaded earrings and a raffia bag, plus some sandals that you could easily swap for gold heels in the evening. Emmerdale's Clemmie targeted by unexpected villager - and it's not Joe Tate
Emmerdale's Home Farm hasn't been the most comfortable place for young Clemmie Reed (Mabel Addison) recently – despite it being the most luxurious address in the village. Ever since she saw her mum Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) kissing Joe Tate (Ned Porteous), and Joe threatened her to try and keep her silence, Clemmie has felt uncomfortable and unhappy in Joe's presence. After Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) moved out of the house and the stable family that she'd grown to rely on fell apart, Clemmie was so unhappy that she even tried to run away to the Dingles' house, begging Sam (James Hooton) to let her stay. Instead, Sam brought Joe over and he managed to win Clemmie's trust to a certain extent by talking about his own feelings of being let out when he was a child. She agreed to return to Home Farm. There's still an uneasy atmosphere in the house, however, with tensions still high between Joe and Billy, and Dawn fighting her feelings for the kidney thief despite knowing the terrible things he's done. But when Clemmie's upset when her top-of-the-range new phone vanishes in an upcoming episode, the culprit isn't a resident of Home Farm at all. It's Kammy (Shebz Miah). We first met mechanic Kammy when he stole a quad bike from Butlers Farm, so we know he's got form in the thievery department. Recently he appeared to have settled down to working with Cain (Jeff Hordley) and we haven't heard much from him. When Vinny (Bradley Johnson) forgets the anniversary of his and Gabby Thomas' (Rosie Bentham) first kiss, he's on the naughty step as far as Gabby is concerned. In an attempt to win her round, Vinny enlists Kammy's help to set up a romantic evening for him and Gabby at the scrapyard. More Trending This is not as random, or unromantic, as it sounds because the scrapyard was the venue for that first kiss a year ago. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? But setting things up requires Vinny to send Kammy to Home Farm to pick up some essentials. Kammy is over-awed by the splendour of the swankiest address in the Dales, and when he spots Clemmie's brand new phone he can't resist, and grabs it. Later he calls a contact and organises selling the phone. Meanwhile there's mayhem at Home Farm when the phone is found to be missing. Joe Tate, always one to sense an opportunity, wastes no time in pointing the finger at Billy. View More » Will the real culprit be discovered, or is Billy in hot water yet again? Emmerdale's Dawn makes accusation against Billy as social services investigate
It seems Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) is now prepared to defend Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) in Emmerdale, even though he threatened her daughter, stole a man's kidney, spiked his brother, and was responsible for the death of three women. Have we missed anything? Despite telling Joe they wouldn't be getting back together, Dawn has seemingly been unable to control herself around him and his charm. She's been smiling and flirting, and has gradually came to realise that Joe doesn't intend on giving up with showing that he's a man who can be trusted. Recently, while Joe and Dawn were talking, youngster Clemmie (Mabel Addison) came downstairs and spotted them. Seeing her mum happy with Joe made Clemmie realise they might be getting back together, and that was a terrifying prospect for her. It was only a few weeks ago that Joe told Clemmie that he could send her back into care, so seeing him make Dawn smile left her with the urge to try and change things. She rang social services and explained to someone on the line that she is scared of her mum's new boyfriend. Unsurprisingly, there was a knock at the door at Home Farm in tonight's episode, and it was a social worker. While Joe and Dawn spoke to the woman, Billy (Jay Kontzle) was at The Hide with Clemmie. He recognised that she was being distant and gently encouraged her to open up. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? Who's leaving Coronation Street? After learning Clemmie's secret, Billy brought her back to Home Farm. The youngster confessed to calling social services, and Dawn made sure that she knew she wasn't in trouble. More Trending The social worker concluded that Clemmie wasn't in any danger at home and left. Just as she departed though, Dawn suggested to Billy that he told Clemmie to call the social, as part of a revenge plan on her and Joe. Billy was disgusted. This comment served as a reminder to him that he doesn't know who Dawn is anymore. View More » Just what will she do next as Joe continues to have an influence on her? Billy's rage after Joe's to blame as Clemmie goes missing in Emmerdale
Clemmie Reed (Mabel Addison) goes missing in upcoming scenes from this week's Emmerdale – sending Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) into a rage at Joe Tate (Ned Porteous). Joe's found himself in the shoes of unlikely family man since his affair with Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley), who comes part and parcel with kids Clemmie, Lucas and Evan. He didn't exactly get off to a good start with Clemmie either, who caught them kissing and confirmed Billy's suspicions that his wife had, indeed, left him for another man. Joe clashed with Clemmie in an attempt to keep her quiet – earning him a bite for his trouble – and turned menacing when she rejected his attempts at bribery. The fallout from the affair culminated in Joe being pushed out of a window at Lydia Dingle's (Karen Blick) birthday party, a crime to which Dawn confessed. The pair are back on something of an even keel since then, although his idea of childminding still leaves something to be desired. Joe and Dawn's fresh romance is derailed when a social worker arrives at Home Farm to follow up on a safeguarding concern. Following the interview, the pair are relieved when the social worker confirms that no further action is required. Meanwhile, Joe is keen to work on his relationship with Clemmie, which remains strained – and gets even worse when she disappears under his watch. Fuming at Joe's negligence, Billy tells Dawn that she should move out of Home Farm so as to be away from Joe. More Trending But, when she refuses, Billy accuses her of still having feelings for Joe. She's left exhausted by the constant battles with her ex-husband. Meanwhile, scheming Joe concocts a plan to get Dawn on side and unite his new family. View More » What does he have planned? 'I would have been put in foster care and not enjoying the life I have now if my grandparents hadn't taken me in.' Jay went on to say his grandparents' support coupled with therapy was "life-saving" for him. Most read in Soaps He said he felt "valued as a kid" as he took part in toy therapy. Jay spoke to the publication in connection with Mental Health Awareness Week. Emmerdale's Joe Tate and Dawn Fletcher affair 'rumbled' - as villager plots sneaky revenge Jay has played Billy Fletcher in Emmerdale since December 2018. He had previously worked as a teaching assistant and dabbled in a pop career with boy band The Mend. The group was formed by Take That mastermind Nigel Martin-Smith in 2008 but they failed to hit the big time. In 2011, Jay and his The Mend bandmates - Kris Evans, Dean Kelly and Craig Worsley - made it to boot camp on The X Factor. The group then went on to make it to the semi-finals on Britain's Got Talent the following year. Now in Emmerdale, It comes after he discovered the bad boy had been Taylor behind his back. Jay told The Mirror he identifies with his character Billy, who together with Dawn are trying to protect their adoptive daughter Clemmie amidst the drama. Clemmie, whose real mum was a drug addict, is believed to be Joe's real attacker after she was told by the menace that she would 'go back into care' if she exposed his affair with Dawn. Jay explained: "Although Dawn is not related to Clemmie, she was her mother's friend who stepped in to look after - rather than see her in foster care, so it's very similar to kinship care." 5 Jay found fame in boyband The Mend Credit: PA:Press Association 5 He says he can relate to his current Emmerdale storyline with on-screen daughter Clemmie Credit: ITV 5 Jay has three children with Mimi Credit: Instagram/jkontzle
