Microsoft introduces agentic AI experience for Copilot Plus PCs: What's new

Microsoft has announced that it will soon begin rolling out a range of new AI-powered features exclusive to Copilot+ PCs. In addition to expanding existing tools like Click to Do, the company is introducing entirely new abilities, including an agentic AI experience within the Settings app that can suggest and change device configurations on the user's behalf. New features are also coming to Photos, Paint, Snipping Tool, and Narrator. These updates will begin rolling out to Windows Insiders in the coming months. Microsoft has also launched its latest Surface devices—a 13-inch Surface Laptop and a 12-inch Surface Pro—both powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Plus chip. The devices are now available for pre-order in India and will go on sale from July 15. New Microsoft Copilot + PC features Agent in Settings Microsoft is introducing a new AI agent in the Settings app, designed to understand user intent and automate tasks. Users can describe their needs using natural language prompts like 'how to control my PC by voice' or 'my mouse pointer is too small,' and the AI will suggest steps to resolve the issue—or even carry them out directly, with user permission. Initially, this experience will be available to Windows Insiders on Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs, with support for AMD and Intel versions coming later. The feature will only support English language inputs at launch. Also Read Click to Do, which offers contextual shortcuts such as copying text from images or removing backgrounds, is getting an upgrade. Upcoming additions include: Use Ask Copilot to act on text or images. Leverage Microsoft 365 Copilot to draft content in Word. Convert selected text into a bulleted list. Send an on-screen table directly to Excel. Use a Reading Coach to practice reading selected text aloud. Launch Immersive Reader for better reading experience. Schedule a Teams meeting from an email. Some of these features are already rolling out to Windows Insiders on Copilot+ PCs, with others arriving later this month. Improved Windows Search Microsoft announced that improved Windows Search which lets users find local files with natural language prompts is expanding to more places. With this change users can: Search for specific Windows settings. Quickly find and install apps from the Microsoft Store. Search within the Photos app to locate particular images. Photos relight The new Relight feature in the Microsoft Photos app brings dynamic lighting controls to images. Users can: Place up to three adjustable light sources. Set light colours and move a focus point. Adjust brightness and intensity. Apply preset lighting styles with one click. Relight will launch first on Snapdragon X Series Copilot+ PCs, with AMD and Intel support to follow later this year. New features in Paint Two new AI-powered features are coming to Paint on Copilot+ PCs: Sticker generator: Creates digital stickers from a simple text prompt. These can be used on the canvas, copied into documents, or shared in chats. Object select: Offers context-aware selection to isolate and edit specific elements on the canvas. These features will be available to Windows Insiders later this month. New features for Snipping tool The Windows Snipping Tool is gaining several new features: Perfect screenshot: Automatically adjusts the capture area to tightly frame content, with crop handles for fine-tuning. Text extractor: Lets users copy text directly from images or screenshots. Color picker: Captures exact colour values from anywhere on the screen. Microsoft has also upgraded the tool's diffusion-based model to deliver better results more quickly. This is the same model used in Paint's Cocreator and generative fill features. New features for Narrator Narrator, the built-in screen reader, now provides rich image descriptions, offering detailed context for visuals such as charts, user interface elements, and photos. This helps blind and low-vision users interpret content that lacks alt text.

New Windows 11 Insider Preview Build Adds New Voice Typing and Pen Features

Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.3941 (KB5055634) to the Beta Channel for users running Windows 11 24H2. This build brings updates, improvements, and fixes. One of the updates is a new profanity filter setting for voice typing, which lets users decide whether spoken profanity is masked with asterisks or transcribed as spoken. This setting can be accessed by opening voice typing with Win + H, selecting the settings icon, and toggling the filter. Another update is called Click to Do, which is available for Copilot+ PCs. If you use a pen with inking support, you can set up the shortcut button to open Click to Do. You can also add the app to the pen menu for easier access. Windows Search has also been improved for Copilot+ PCs. If users are signed into OneDrive with a work or school account, searches in the Windows search box on the taskbar will now only return results for keywords found within the text of cloud files, not photos. The Accessibility flyout in quick settings has also been updated. Assistive technologies are now grouped by vision, hearing, motor, and mobility. This change makes it easier for users to find the right tools. These were the major changes, but this build addresses a number of other issues, such as blank app windows, problems with Windows Hello facial recognition, and touch keyboard bugs. It also resolves issues with Quick Assist for non-admin users and fixes problems where certain apps failed to open due to missing virtual machine components.

Microsoft Copilot Plus PCs to get Recall, Click to Do, more features soon

Microsoft has announced that it will soon roll out three new artificial intelligence (AI)-powered features for its Copilot Plus PCs: Recall, Click to Do, and improved Windows Search. Recall, which initially debuted with the Copilot Plus PC platform, was withdrawn due to security and privacy concerns raised by early testers. It is now set to return alongside additional AI-driven enhancements. Microsoft claims these updates will deliver unmatched AI experiences. Microsoft Copilot Plus PCs: What's new In a blog post, Microsoft confirmed that more AI capabilities are coming to Copilot Plus PCs. The new features include Recall (preview), Click to Do (preview), and improved Windows Search. Recall (Preview) Recall helps users quickly rediscover apps, websites, images or documents by retracing their digital activity. Designed to simplify the process of locating past work or browsing sessions, Recall allows users to scroll through a timeline or search using simple descriptions, reducing retrieval time by up to 70 per cent, according to Microsoft. This feature operates locally on the device, with strong privacy controls in place to ensure data remains secure, encrypted, and never shared with Microsoft or third parties. Click to Do (Preview) Click to Do offers quick, contextual shortcuts for actions such as summarising, rewriting, copying text or editing images directly from the screen. It can be activated by pressing 'Win' + 'Click', swiping right on touchscreens, or using icons in tools like Start and Snipping Tool. This feature streamlines workflows by allowing users to interact with content instantly. Image-related actions are already available, while text actions are initially rolling out to Snapdragon X series devices, with support for AMD and Intel devices to follow. Improved Windows Search The improved Windows Search enables users to find images, documents or settings by describing them in natural language, without needing to recall exact file names. Powered by a local neural processing unit (NPU), it delivers faster, more intuitive results by understanding context, reducing search time by up to 70 per cent compared to traditional Windows 10 search methods. How to get these features These exclusive features for Copilot Plus PCs are included in the April 2025 Windows non-security preview update. Microsoft will begin rolling them out over the next month. The company stated: 'We will be gradually rolling out these new features via controlled feature rollout (CFR) to consumers.'

Microsoft Debuts Recall and Smarter Windows Search with AI for Copilot Plus PCs

Microsoft has officially launched its long-awaited Recall feature, along with AI-enhanced Windows search and a new tool called Click to Do, all available today for users of Copilot Plus PCs. Recall captures screenshots of nearly everything you do on your Copilot Plus PC, creating a searchable timeline of your digital activity. Initially planned for release last June alongside Copilot Plus devices, the feature faced delays due to security concerns raised by researchers. Microsoft postponed public testing multiple times, finally taking the past 10 months to revamp Recall's security framework. It's now an opt-in feature, meaning users must enable it manually if they wish to use it, easing privacy concerns. To use Recall, Microsoft states, 'you must have at least one biometric sign-in option enabled for Windows Hello, either facial recognition or a fingerprint, to launch and use Recall.' This isn't just a basic search tool upgrade — it's a step toward more natural, context-aware computing. The AI enhancements allow Windows to better interpret images, documents, and user intent. For example, instead of remembering file names or creation dates, you can now simply type in a phrase like 'brown dog,' and the system will surface matching content. Alongside Recall, Windows Search is also getting an AI boost. You can now use natural language queries in the search bar, File Explorer, or settings. It allows users to describe what they're looking for, whether it's a vague memory of a photo or a setting you can't recall the name of. Finally, Microsoft is introducing Click to Do, a new interaction tool similar to Google's Circle to Search. By holding down the Windows key and clicking the left mouse button, users can highlight on-screen text or images to trigger smart actions, like summarising text or editing images by removing objects instantly. Together, these updates bring a more intelligent and seamless experience to Windows users, pushing forward Microsoft's AI-driven vision for productivity and personal computing.
