Gardai have arrested three men, and seized over €1.28 million in cash in South Dublin over the past three days. The operation targetting an organised crime gang, involved in the sale and supply of controlled drugs and money laundering activities, was carried out by Specialist Gardai from the Dublin Crime Response Team (DCRT) During the operation, Gardai stopped and searched a car in the Donnybrook area of Dublin 4, and seized €197,760 in cash, and arrested a man in his 50's. All three men were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, at Garda Stations in the Dublin Region. Meanwhile, during follow up searches of a number of South Dublin properties, Gardaí seized an additional €1,086,175 in cash, bringing the total amount of cash seized in this investigation to €1,283,935. Commenting on the investigation, Assistant Commissioner Cliona Richardson said, 'This significant seizure of cash will impact the ability of those involved to cause harm in our communities. It not only removes ill-gotten gains from the hands of criminals, but also deprives them of money they would have used to fund further criminal activities. Investigations are ongoing.

In a follow-up operation on the same day, another two men, one aged in his 30s and one in his 40s, were arrested. All three men were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Garda Stations in the Dublin region. A number of searches on South Dublin properties were conducted on the following day, where they seized an additional €1,086,175 in cash. This brings the total amount of cash seized in the current investigation to a whopping €1,283,935. The three arrested men were expected to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice this morning at approximately 10.30am. Commenting on the investigation, Cliona Richardson, Assistant Commissioner, said: "This significant seizure of cash will impact the ability of those involved to cause harm in our communities. "It not only removes ill-gotten gains from the hands of criminals, but also deprives them of money they would have used to fund further criminal activities. "The DCRT is committed to keeping our communities safe by continuing to target the proceeds of criminal conduct, with a view to seizing assets and initiating prosecutions in relation to persons engaged in money laundering and associated criminal activity." The cops confirmed that the investigations are ongoing.

The two men (aged in their 40s) arrested in connection with the seziure of cannabis in Co Louth have now been charged. On Tuesday, gardaí searched a premises and found a large-scale cannabis cultivation factory. Cannabis plants with an estimated street value of more than €750,000 were seized following the search operaiton in Drogheda. The two men are expected to appear before a special sitting of Dundalk District Court later today at approximately 5pm. News in 90 Seconds 'On searching the car, gardaí located and seized a semi-automatic pistol, rounds of ammunition and €153,305 in cash,' the spokesperson said. 'The sole occupant of the car, a man in his 40s, was arrested at the scene and brought to a Garda Station in Dublin where he is currently detained under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939 as amended.' Gardai said a number of follow-up searches took place in Dublin city where more evidence has been recovered. Commenting on the investigation, Assistant Commissioner Cliona Richardson said: "The seizure of this firearm and ammunition has no doubt saved lives, and the removal of significant amounts of cash not only removes ill-gotten gains from the hands from criminals, but deprives them of money they would have used to fund further criminal activity in our communities.'
