Quizzer wins Mastermind six years after Millionaire success
Mastermind has crowned its latest champion, just six years after he won a fortune on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. Quizzer John Robinson was on Millionaire in 2019 and walked away with £500,000. He went on to appear on the new series of the BBC's Mastermind, where he impressed host Clive Myrie as well as viewers and clinched the title of 2025 Mastermind Champion. He revealed that after cleaning up on Jeremy Clarkson's programme he had decided he was after Mastermind's Glass Bowl, saying it had been "time to go for something that money can't buy". Mastermind's grand final — which aired on BBC Two on Monday, 19 May — saw six contestants taking a turn in the chair as they battled through tough questions on subjects such as Led Zeppelin, the stage plays of Tom Stoppard and penguins. Discussing his decision to give Mastermind a go, English teacher Robinson said: "I've been lucky enough to be on a few different quiz shows before. "The pinnacle is probably winning £500,000 on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, so I decided it's probably time to go for something that money can't buy, which is trying to win that Mastermind Glass Bowl." "I constantly tell the students that I teach that if you put effort into your revision, you will get reward at the end of it so hopefully the kids can then look at me and be inspired by the hard work that I've put in as well," he added. The contestant, who wore a shirt emblazoned with an image of the skyscraper, faced questions on everything from the lobby ceiling mural to the type of bomber plane which hit the building in the 1940s. He then did well in the general knowledge round too and finished the night on 30, beating fellow hopeful Claire Reynolds, who had 29 points. Host Myrie said winning the 52nd series of the show was "an amazing achievement". Pointing at the Glass Bowl trophy, he said: "You won half a million pounds on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, money can't buy that." "It certainly can't," Robinson agreed. "A lot more pressure in this chair as well, compared to that chair." Myrie wrapped up the series by praising all of the contestants for their effort. "Your courage has been immense in braving the black chair," he said. Mastermind's full series is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

Morocco's ONMT Launches Strategic Tourism Plans for Fez, Ouarzazate
Rabat — Morocco's National Tourism Office (ONMT) has unveiled two ambitious tourism revival plans, 'Shining Fez' and 'Rising Ouarzazate,' to boost these historic destinations on the international market. The office announced this plan as part of its global vision to level up the attractiveness of Morocco's tourism cities and sites. This time it is 'a strategy to reposition two heritage jewels, Fez and Ouarzazate,' according to ONMT. These plans aim to revitalize these high-potential regions through partnerships with local authorities and tourism operators. Three-prong approach Implementation of the revitalization plans focuses on three key strategies, namely building awareness through media coverage and educational tours, strengthening partnerships with travel agencies, and improving air connectivity. 'Shining Fez' The 'Shining Fez' plan includes several high-impact media and commercial initiatives. TV5 Monde will broadcast a documentary on Fez cuisine from May 11-21, featuring the medina's rich culinary traditions. France 2 will produce 'The Artisans of Morocco,' showing the region's traditional crafts, while M6 will feature the spiritual capital in its 'Minute Voyage' series. In the UK market, BBC will dedicate an episode of 'Clive Myrie's African Adventure' to Fez. Travel website Travelzoo will create a dedicated Fez page with special offers from partner tour operators running from April 2025 to April 2026. On the commercial front, two major campaigns with French travel agencies Carrefour Voyages and Havas Voyages will focus on 'gastronomy, local products, and craftsmanship.' Fez will also host a workshop with premium sales platform Voyage Privé and participate in Spain's Travel Connect trade show to connect directly with distributors. Travel agents will receive training through webinars, online courses, and e-learning modules, including a specific Fez-Meknes module to enhance their knowledge of the destination. The image strategy includes hosting press trips, influencers, and content creators from the French, German, Italian, and British markets. 'Rising Ouarzazate' The 'Rising Ouarzazate' plan takes a complementary approach, repositioning the city as an exceptional destination at the crossroads of desert, cinema, and immersive experiences. ONMT plans to produce audiovisual content in the UK, focusing on Ouarzazate's film history, displaying the region's legendary studios and spectacular landscapes that have served as backdrops for major productions. The region will also sponsor a British film in competition, with special visibility at the UK Film Festival, featuring its natural scenery. Major European media outlets are involved, including Italian channel RAI 3, which filmed an episode of the program 'GEO' in Ouarzazate, focusing on the relationship between the territory, nomadic culture, and Amazigh traditions. Sky TV's culinary show Gamberorosso will dedicate a special episode to southern Moroccan cuisine in October. Ouarzazate will host several major events, most notably the Desert Women's Summit in the second half of 2025, bringing together 150 female leaders from around the world to experience the spiritual intensity and inspirational power of the Moroccan desert. The city will also welcome two major Spanish tourism conventions: CEAV (100 travel agents) in October and IDEMICE for the MICE network, as well as a Frameless event centered on artistic and sensory immersion. Like Fez, Ouarzazate's plan includes international workshops, online training modules, and press and influencer trips throughout the second half of 2025. Special attention will focus on developing direct connections to these destinations, complementing efforts already made for the summer 2025 season. With these twin plans, ONMT is sending the message that it's treating each destination as unique, with tailored approaches and local collaboration. Fez and Ouarzazate are set to reclaim their prominence as part of a strategy targeting all of Morocco's tourism territories and destinations.

Is Clive Myrie right to call the Mastermind final ‘TV's toughest quiz'?
Much as I always enjoy Mastermind (BBC2), I would robustly disagree with Clive Myrie that it is 'television's toughest quiz'. No, it isn't. Only Connect and University Challenge have far harder questions, though I do appreciate that they are both team quizzes and in Mastermind you are alone, braving the black chair naked. Metaphorically, I mean, not literally. That would be terrible for all concerned, including the black chair. Spoiler alert! Winner referenced ahead. But, please. Warm-up general knowledge questions such as 'what domestic pet is popularly said to have nine lives?' and completing the lyric 'The hills are alive with the sound of …' do not belong in a Mastermind grand final but in a children's quiz. I will stop griping now, though, because

Mastermind 2025 champion also scooped £500k on rival quiz show – do you remember him?
THE champion of Mastermind 2025 also won an incredible £500k on a rival quiz show - but do you remember him? Viewers watched on as John Robinson became the BBC quiz's latest victor. 4 4 4 The school teacher, from Sutton Coldfield, faced off against Claire Reynolds in a tense finish. John emerged as the winner of series 52 with an impressive 30 points - while also correctly answering the last episode of the series. Discussing his victory, he said: "I cannot quite believe that I have won the final of Mastermind. "I'm not often lost for words, but I think this is one of those occasions where I don't know what to say…I'm just delighted.' Earlier in the show, John scored 12 points on specialist subject The Empire State Building. In fact, he wore a New York skyscraper shirt as an homage to this subject. It's not the first time John has experienced success on a legendary game show. He previously won an impressive £500,000 on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire back in 2019. By question 14, John had used all of his lifelines and chose to take the money rather than risk. He is only one of 11 contestants throughout the hit ITV game show to win £500,000. Mastermind viewers switch off BBC quiz show as they fume questions are being 'dumbed down' - but how many would you get right- As presenter Clive Myrie handed over the Mastermind trophy, he acknowledged the contestant's past game prowess. Pointing to the coveted prize, Clive added; "Money can't buy that." John agreed, saying: "It certainly can't, no. A lot more pressure in this chair, compared to that chair." Earlier in the series, Mastermind viewers fumed as they declared questions were "dumbed down". It saw contestant Phil choose classic sitcom Blackadder as his specialist subject. Hardest Quiz Show Questions Would you know the answers to some of quizzing TV's hardest questions Who Wants To Be A Millionaire - Earlier this year, fans were left outraged after what they described as the "worst" question in the show's history. Host Jeremy Clarkson asked: 'From the 2000 awards ceremony onwards, the Best Actress Oscar has never been won by a woman whose surname begins with which one of these letters?' The multiple choice answers were between G, K, M and W. In the end, and with the £32,000 safe, player Glen had to make a guess and went for G. It turned out to be correct as Nicole Kidman, Frances McDormand and Kate Winslet are among the stars who have won the Best Actress gong since 2000. The 1% Club - Viewers of Lee Mack's popular ITV show were left dumbfounded by a question that also left the players perplexed. The query went as follows: "Edna's birthday is on the 6th of April and Jen's birthday falls on the 15th of October, therefore Amir's birthday must be the 'X' of January." It turns out the conundrum links the numbers with its position in the sentence, so 6th is the sixth word and 15th is the fifteenth word. Therefore, Amir's birthday is January 24th, corresponding to the 24th word in the sentence. The Chase - The ITV daytime favourite left fans scratching their heads when it threw up one of the most bizarre questions to ever grace the programme. One of the questions asked the player: "Someone with a nightshade intolerance should avoid eating what?" The options were - sweetcorn, potatoes, carrots - with Steve selecting sweetcorn but the correct answer was potatoes. One person wrote on X: 'I haven't seen Blackadder in about five years, but I got four, so that set of questions was clearly far too easy...' Another remarked: 'Blackadder?! What's that, 14 hours of TV to bone up on? Pathetic. I managed to answer all bar two of those and I've not seen any of it for years. So dumbed down now.' Viewers also branded another player's selection of sitcom Friday Night Dinner as "ridiculous." Mastermind airs on BBC One and iPlayer. 4
