Free tetanus shots were available for Henderson flooding victims
HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — The Green River District Health Department was out giving free tetanus shots after severe flooding hit the Tri-State earlier this month.
A release obtained by Eyewitness News says the department was stationed at the Emergency Management Mobile Command Post, giving shots Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Peters Road in Henderson County.
Officials with Henderson Emergency Managment say the bacteria that cause tetanus, Clostridium tetani, are commonly found in soil, dirt and feces found in flood waters and can enter your body through cuts or wounds. There is no cure for tetanus, so prevention through vaccination is the best protection.
Those wishing to protect themselves from tetanus still have the opportunity to get a free vaccine. Saturday, the Green River District Health Department and Henderson EMA will be at the St. Augustine Church, at 16777 Highway 811 in Reed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
