Mang0 says he's three weeks sober after Smash ban and Twitch fallout

Legendary Super Smash Bros. Melee player Joseph 'Mang0' Marquez has announced that he is three weeks sober, following a public fall from grace involving alcohol abuse. The update comes a month after Mang0 was dropped by esports organization Cloud9 and briefly banned on Twitch due to his behavior at Ludwig's Beerio Kart event on June 21, 2025. The tournament, which required players to drink alcohol during Mario Kart races, saw Mang0 allegedly harassing fellow streamers including ExtraEmily. The incident led to widespread criticism, with some fans also blaming Ludwig for encouraging Mang0's drinking. Despite this, Mang0 took full responsibility and revealed he's now banned from Melee tournaments for a year. 'I think it's fine,' Mang0 told fans during a July 21 Twitch stream. 'If you're a Mang0 fan, I'd appreciate it if no one harassed the TOs.' Marquez confessed that a few days after the incident, he drank a full bottle of gin alone and broke down emotionally. He also shared that rehab was financially out of reach after losing 80% of his income, but he's been getting support from professionals and plans to begin therapy once his insurance is reinstated. While he hasn't found AA meetings helpful, Mang0 is researching and using online resources to stay on track. 'I'm proud to say… I am three weeks sober today,' he said. 'I don't really have the urge to drink.' With a one-year ban in place, fans remain hopeful that Mang0 will return to competitive Smash stronger than ever.

SG60 It's Giving Fest kicks off two-day celebration with local singers Lullaboy, Tasha Low and even a surprise song from Tyler Ten

With less than a month left till the nation's birthday, SG60 celebrations are in full swing across Singapore that you'd be spoilt for choice every weekend. At least this weekend, my choice was obvious. I was curious about the buzz around Mediacorp's Cloud 9 music festival, which had its inaugural run earlier this year. It kicked off its return on Saturday (Jul 12) with a free concert as part of It's Giving Fest, a youth-driven initiative organised by Over two days at *SCAPE, It's Giving Fest aims to spotlight the voices, dreams and aspirations of Singapore's youth while empowering them to take action in social and community initiatives. And in my experience as its target demographic, it lived up to its mission. Saturday's lineup for the Cloud 9 concert showcased a range of homegrown talents, including Lullaboy, Tasha Low, Alyph, Shye and Ben Hum. The evening opened with sets from local DJs Kohsh and Kiara, who delivered a mix of pulsing beats and remixes of pop classics, such as Ed Sheeran's Shape Of You and Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Maybe. No lacklustre audiences here, for sure. The crowd responded with enthusiasm, jumping, waving glow sticks and singing along – as youths do – setting the tone for the night. Personally, I found one highlight to be singer Lullaboy. Or at least his undeniable charisma. He surprised the audience by announcing his upcoming album, set to be released around Valentine's Day next year, before debuting a new track off the album I Didn't Like You But I Love You. And when he tossed his T-shirt merchandise into the adoring crowd, it sent fans into a frenzy. Another standout performance came from Singaporean actress and singer Tasha Low. Fresh off the Star Awards stage where she took home the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes trophy, it was easy to see why. She performed her new single Everything You Wanted, before bringing out her surprise guest for a duet. Who knew Emerald Hill co-star Tyler Ten, who won Best Rising Star and Most Popular Rising Stars at the recent Star Awards, was a singer too? The duo performed the theme song from the drama series, as fans cheered for their on-stage chemistry, rooted in their on-screen partnership. Before leaving the stage, Low hinted that she and Ten would be collaborating again for an upcoming drama series, much to fans' delight. Earlier in the afternoon too, local busker Jeff Ng serenaded an outdoor crowd with popular songs, including a soulful rendition of Taylor Swift's Love Story and Bruno Mars' Just the Way You Are. It's Giving Fest on Saturday also spotlighted eight original short films and five songs created by youths around the theme "building our Singapore together". Under the SG60 Flex Your Passion Open Call and Mentorship Programme, these students from Institutes of Higher Learning were guided by film mentors such as He Shuming, Don Aravind, Tariq Mansor and Nicole Midori Woodford, as well as music mentors Shazza, Lullaboy and Shye. 'Events like these help us grow our confidence, especially when we see our work showcased to a wider audience. The entire community is here with us, and it feels great to see the support we get," shared Krisha, one of the creators behind the short film Lion Heart. Other highlights on Saturday included two cosplay runway shows - one organised by Pause for a Cause, Singapore's first cosplay volunteer community. The group uses cosplay to raise funds and bring joy to others, such as via hospital visits for children. The second was an independent showcase featuring a diverse cast of cosplayers, each bringing beloved characters to life with extensive detail in costumes and makeup. Said Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth David Neo: "This SG60 festival is a showcase and celebration of our youth's immense creativity, and desire to give back to the community. This is part of the government's effort to give our youths a stronger voice for their hopes and dreams, a platform to put their passion into action, and enable youths to take the lead in social and community action.' It's Giving Fest will continue on Sunday from 11am to 9.30pm at *SCAPE, including a fresh lineup for Mediacorp's Cloud 9 concert starting at 7pm. Attendees can look forward to performances by local singers like Benjamin Kheng, Shazza, Fariz Jabba and more. It's Giving Fest is organised by in partnership with SG Youth Plan and Mediacorp Cloud 9.

The English hotel resort with private beach, outdoor swimming pool and cinema – and new Spanish-themed experience

A HUGE hotel resort set in the English countryside is home to wealth of things to do and explore and is also getting an exciting new Spanish experience. The Grove located in the Hertfordshire countryside, just 18 miles from central London is a private resort with five restaurants, three bars, an award-winning spa, a golf course and events spaces. 9 9 Stretching over 300 acres, the resort boasts something for everyone. Whist the first house at the site dates back to the 1500s, the hotel didn't open until 2003. And inside it features sophisticated interiors with sculptures, chandeliers and airy large windows. There are a number of different rooms available, including 12 newly refurbished suites in the 18th century mansion. Depending on your mood, visitors can also eat a number of different locations including The Glasshouse, which according to The Grove's website is "one of the world's finest buffets". And during the summer months, the hotel hosts the 'Feast on Cloud 9'. fairground-theme outdoor area. afternoon tea. It costs £75 per adult and £49.50 per child for the five-course tasting menu. Alternatively, you could have afternoon tea for £65 per adult and £39.50 per child. This Hotel is Home to the UK's Only Swim-Up Bar The hotel is also hosting a new experience called 'Fuego in the Woods', which shares with guests the flavours of Spain. Across three courses, visitors will have a sharing-style Spanish feast all cooked over wood-fired parrillas with dishes including Barcelona-style flatbread with black garlic aioli, Tomahawk of Hertfordshire beef and a Basque chocolate cheesecake with cherry compote. There will be live music and drinks across the participating evenings too. The experience costs £175 per adult or £100 per child. Back at the hotel, there is also a spa onsite which offers a range of facilities including a 22-metre-long UV-filtered pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. One of the real hidden gems of the site is the walled garden - home to a heated outdoor pool, private beach and kitchen garden. 9 9 Whilst at the 'beach', guests can relax, enjoy a new bar, stretch out on daybeds and get competitive in a family gaming area. This year, the beach has a fresh new look and a dedicated treatment space. The day beds include premium, classic and family options that cost from £60 to £190, depending on whether you book them for a day or half-day. Each booking also comes with still and sparking water, fruit skewers, coconut water, face spray and cocktails. 9 9 Whilst there, guests can also indulge themselves with a 'Sequoia on the Beach Massage' - which focuses on the décolletage, neck, shoulders, face, scalp and arms. For those who like golf, The Grove is home to one of the UK's most prestigious golf courses, with 18 holes. In fact, in 2006, the resort hosted The World Golf Championships, which were won by Tiger Woods. Previous guests have included cast members of Harry Potter - as 'The Making of Harry Potter' is nearby at Leavesden Studios - and Barack Obama during a presidential visit with Prime Minister David Cameron. It isn't only prestigious guests the resort is used to - there have also been a number of notable events at The Grove. 9 The Grove Hotel went viral for one of it's restaurants THE Sun's assistant travel editor Sophie Swietochowski experienced the buffet last year - here's what she thought. As The Sun travel desk's resident foodie, I could hardly resist trying the UK's fanciest buffet, also one of the world's most expensive. The Grove Hotel in Hertfordshire went viral earlier last year when TikTok foodies discovered its Glasshouse restaurant where everyone dines en masse, but in five-star luxury. It even featured in Netflix's 'Million Dollar Buffet' documentary with Grace Dent. Costing a whopping £82 per person at the weekend, there is certainly enough to choose from. After several, overly-generous spoonfuls of caviar, a few servings of beetroot-cured salmon and seven superbly crafted sushi rolls, decorated with dainty herbs, I felt I'd made a good dent in 'getting my money's worth' – a statement that had been thrown back and forth between my buffet partner, Mum, and I. So the real question is: is it really worth the cash? It's a thought that's difficult to get out of my head, even though, as a self-proclaimed foodie, I'd normally spend at least this amount on a boozy dinner with friends. But £82 does feel like a lot for what I'd previously have defined as 'just a buffet'. Although, if you visit for dinner mid-week, as opposed to the weekend, you can knock £17 off this price. I'd planned what I thought was an adequate two and a half hours to properly tackle that evening's dinner, but an extra hour would have been more appropriate if I wanted to take it at a more relaxed pace – and squeeze in an extra few hundred calories. Isn't that what buffet dining is all about? Still, despite the steep price, I think I'll be booking a table for my birthday next year – and this time I'm aiming for five plates instead of four. 9 These include NATO's 70th annual meeting. And for the final of the UEFA Euros, the England National Football Team stayed at the hotel. In 2023, the resort celebrated 20 years since it opened and also received a plethora of awards. The Grove also revealed its newly renovated Sequoia spa after a £1.6million refurbishment. There is a posh UK spa hotel praised by mums as perfect for kids – thanks to an Ofsted creche, huge playbarn and early teatime. Plus, the English hotel with one of the UK's poshest spas … but it's only for dogs. 9

Ludwig responds to Mang0 Twitch ban controversy following Beerio Kart drinking stream

Popular streamer Ludwig Ahgren has publicly addressed criticism surrounding his Beerio Kart event after Super Smash Bros. pro Mang0 was banned from Twitch and dropped by Cloud9 for inappropriate behavior during the livestream. The June 21 event, held to celebrate the launch of Mario Kart World on the Nintendo Switch 2, required participants to finish a drink before completing a race. Mang0, reportedly intoxicated, harassed female content creators during the stream, sparking immediate backlash. In a July 1 Twitch broadcast, Ludwig shared that he had spoken privately with Mang0, who requested that Ludwig not comment further on the incident. 'He said, 'I wanna take it on the chin,'' Ludwig explained. 'That's a fair request.' Ludwig added that Mang0 has started a personal no-drinking commitment and is spending time with family. He pushed back against critics, stating, 'There's a perception of Mang0 people have in their mind, but they don't actually care about him. I don't think they'll be there when he's back streaming.' Ludwig confirmed he banned Mang0 from future events, citing complaints from his girlfriend and Maya Higa, who felt unsafe. 'People want me to take accountability. I said my piece. If people don't f**k with me, that's chill,' he said. He also questioned why Twitch banned Mang0 instead of holding him accountable as the event host, and reiterated Mang0's wish to handle matters privately. Previously, Ludwig called the public reaction 'lacking nuance.'
