MIRI (July 1): A total of 149 households from Kampung Pujut Tanjung Batu affected by the flash floods earlier this year received assistance in the form of furniture and electrical appliances worth RM200,000. The symbolic handover ceremony was held yesterday at the village's community hall. The donated items were contributed by the Kuok Foundation in collaboration with the Club of Miri Mandarin and the Lions Club of Lambir Miri. The event was witnessed by Minister of Transport Sarawak Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, who expressed his gratitude to the non-governmental organisations for their timely and generous support. 'The assistance provided by these organisations helps ease the burden of flood victims in Miri,' he said, in his speech. 'In addition, some of the donated items will also be sent to Sibuti, including Kampung Bulau and surrounding areas, which were also severely affected by the floods earlier this year.' Meanwhile, Lions Club International District 308-A2 Governor Dato Winnie Lee said the project began after they learned the extent of the disaster. 'We reached out to Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin to identify the most severely affected residential areas,' she said. 'From there, both Lions Clubs worked closely together and conducted field surveys with the Kuok Foundation.' She added that the team visited each affected household not only to assess material damages, but also to understand their living conditions and emotional well-being. 'Our aim was not merely to provide furniture or electrical goods, but also to help the victims restore a sense of normalcy and rebuild their homes and lives,' she said. Also present at the ceremony was Kampung Pujut Tanjung Batu headman Usman Suleiman. flash floods flood aid Kampung Pujut Tanjung Batu Lee Kim Shin
