Just how dirty of a player was former Boston Celtics big man Clyde Lovellette in the 1950s and 1960s of the early NBA? A member of the Celtics frontcourt just when the storied ball club started to get good, Lovellette played for Boston in the final two seasons of his Hall of Fame career in the league.
The Petersburg, Indiana native won two titles with the Celtics in 1963 and 1964, helping him to cement his status as the first 'triple crown' player (having won an NCAA title with Kansas, and Olympic gold with the US National Team in 1952). But Lovellette was also known for his physical play that bordered on outright dirty play (and crossing into it by many accounts). Was he really his era's bad boy enforcer?
The folks behind the "Uncle Hays" YouTube channel put together a clip taking a closer look. Check it out below to hear the case and decide for yourself.
