(AP Photo/Jason Behnken) TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Austin Wynns hit a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning and the Athletics handed the Tampa Bay Rays a 4-3 loss on Tuesday night, their third straight. The Rays' last three-game skid came against the the Phillies at home in early May and they have now lost four of five to last-place teams. Advertisement Colby Thomas, who got his first career hit earlier, started the 10th on second base and was sacrificed to third by Denzel Clarke. No. 9 hitter Max Schuemann, who was starting in place of Jacob Wilson, the second-leading hitter in the majors who was a late scratch with a sore right hamstring, worked Mason Montgomery (1-2) for a walk ahead of pinch-hitter Wynns. Michael Kelly (2-0) got the win despite allowing two singles and throwing a wild pitch in the ninth. Mason Miller earned his 17th save, although he intentionally walked Jonathan Aranda with two outs and then threw a wild pitch to advance the runners before striking out Brandon Lowe. Max Muncy hit a two-run homer in the fourth and Shea Langeliers had a solo shot in the sixth for the A's. Christopher Morel, Lowe and Danny Jansen homered for the Rays. Advertisement Tampa Bay starter Shane Baz went seven innings, allowing five hits and matching his career high 11 strikeouts with just one walk. Key moment José Caballero, who stole his 30th base in the second inning, singled to lead off the ninth but was thrown out at second by Langeliers on the next pitch. Athletics C Shea Langeliers (oblique) homers in return from IL
July 1 - The Athletics activated catcher Shea Langeliers from the injured list on Monday, and he helped himself to a three-run home run in his first plate appearance of a 6-4 victory over the host Tampa Bay Rays. Langeliers, 27, played his first game since June 5. He was placed on the 10-day IL the following day due to a strained left oblique. Langeliers was fifth in the A's batting order Monday, and he uncorked a 408-foot homer to left-center off Rays starter Drew Rasmussen in the first inning. The three-run shot proved crucial in the two-run win. Langeliers finished the game 1-for-4, leaving his batting average at .237 for the year. The fourth-year player was off to a promising start before his injury, as he had 10 homers, 10 doubles and 27 RBIs in his first 56 games. In corresponding roster moves before the game, the Athletics recalled right-handed pitcher Justin Sterner and selected outfielder Colby Thomas from Triple-A Las Vegas, while optioning right-hander Tyler Ferguson, catcher Willie MacIver and outfielder JJ Bleday to Triple-A. The most notable of those names was Bleday, an everyday player for the A's in 2024 who was batting just .191 through 62 games in 2025. He had eight homers and 22 RBIs. Shea Langeliers hit a three-run homer in his first at-bat with the Athletics after he was sidelined for 3 1⁄2 weeks with a strained left oblique. Langeliers was reinstated from the 10-day injured list on Monday. The catcher connected with two outs in the first inning in the opener of a three-game series at Tampa Bay, driving a 96-mph sinker from Drew Rasmussen deep to left-center.
