Coles Co. Sheriff issues 14 citations for distracted driving during April campaign
COLES COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — The Coles County Sheriff's Office recently wrapped up a campaign to combat distracted driving and posted the results on social media. 'Click it or Ticket' ahead of Memorial Day, Champaign Co. Sheriff says Officials said on Facebook that deputies spent 20 hours in April dedicated to enforcement efforts, which led to the following results: 14 citations issued for cell phone violations 6 citations issued for speeding violations 7 citations issued for operating an uninsured vehicle 15 warnings issued for other Vehicle Code violations Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Four people from Menomonie confirmed dead in Illinois plane crash
Four people from Menomonie, Wisconsin were killed in a small plane crash in central Illinois on Saturday. According to the Coles County Sheriff's Office, the crash happened around 10:16 a.m. west of the town of Trilla, which is located 190 miles south of Chicago, or about 55 miles south of Champaign, Illinois. The Cessna C180G plane made contact with power lines and crashed in a field near the Coles County Memorial Airport in nearby Mattoon, Illinois. The plane was en route from Nashville, Tennessee. The victims, two men and two women, are all from Menomonie. Illinois State Police is withholding their identities pending notification of family. The NTSB is investigating.
