Coles Wind Farm conversations continue

COLES COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — The conversation continued Thursday night into the Coles Wind Farm project. The project would see Apex Clean Energy building 51 wind turbines along Illinois Route 130, north of Charleston in Coles County. Questions and concerns were directed towards several experts who provided testimony on behalf of several studies. 'As a developer, I know a lot about the project, but I'm not an economist, nor am I a wildlife biologist. So we feel like it's important to have the people who did the studies here in the room so that they can answer the questions of the board and really speak to the work that they did on the project.' said Alan Moore, a director of development for Apex Clean Energy. The meeting marked another step in the process for Apex Clean Energy to obtain a special use permit. Moore said there will be more public hearings into next week. The company hopes to submit building permits this summer and break ground either later this year or early next year. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
