Guernsey general election 'meet the candidates' events scheduled
The States of Guernsey has organised two 'meet the candidate' drop-in events in the lead up to the general the sessions voters will be given the chance to engage with candidates and discuss what matters to them, a States spokesperson first event will take place on 7 and 8 June at Beau Sejour, in the Sir John Loveridge Hall, between 10:00 and 16:00 BST on both second will be at Les Beaucamps High School on 11 June, between 17:30 and 20:30. 'Organic discussions' At Beau Sejour, candidates will be seated with their own space throughout the hall to give them an area for them to talk directly to the Les Beaucamps event has been designed to be informal, which according to the States will allow for "more organic discussions to take place".All candidates have been invited to attend both Falla, registrar general of electors, said: "It has been very positive to see the number of independent events that have been set up by candidates to engage directly with the electorate, however we still wanted to ensure there were some tentpole 'meet the candidate' events organised by the States of Guernsey."She added: "We hope the community find both of these events useful when making their decisions ahead of polling day."The general election has been scheduled to take place on 18 June.

More than 27k islanders register on electoral roll
More than 27,000 islanders have signed up to the electoral roll ahead of the 2025 General Election, the States of Guernsey has said. Islanders are expected to cast their ballots on 18 June, the first chance for voters since October 2020 to decide who should represent them to make key decisions for the island. Officials said 27,316 people signed up ahead of the 30 April deadline, with nearly 2,000 people signing up in the final week. Registrar-general of electors Colette Falla said it was "positive" to see the figure "climb quickly in the final days of the sign-up period". She said forms for candidate nominations were available ahead of the nomination period starting on the 12 May. Officials said 1,186 people aged between 15 and 19 had signed up to the electoral roll as well as 1,198 people aged between 20 and 24. The age category 60-64 saw the most people register with 2,712 followed by 2,671 for 55-59s. The numbers are down on the last election in 2020 when more than 31,000 people registered - at the time it was the highest number registered since 2008. Islanders urged to register for general election
Islanders are being encouraged to register to vote in June's general election, with just two weeks remaining until the electoral roll closes. According to the States of Guernsey, 24,554 people have registered, with most registering online. Reminder cards have been delivered to addresses where no resident is registered. Colette Falla, registrar general of electors, said the States had "tried to make the process as quick and easy as possible", with the registration form and eligibility details available online. Ms Falla said: "With two weeks to go before the roll closes at midnight on 30 April, we're seeing an increase in daily registrations and hope to see a big final push. "We have tried to make the process as quick and easy as possible for people, taking just a couple of minutes if you register online, and have put the information out there far and wide so all eligible islanders are aware. "It's important again to remind people that this is a new electoral roll so even if you've registered on the roll previously for other elections you must register again if you want to vote in the upcoming general election. "While we'd encourage people to register online for speed and ease, paper forms are available if that is the preferred option." Guernsey's general election is on Wednesday 18 June. Reminder for islanders to register to vote
People have been urged to sign up in time to vote in Guernsey's elections which are set to take place in about three months. The States of Guernsey said even if people had registered previously, they would have to do so again to vote in the upcoming election on 18 June. The States said 20,010 people had registered to be on the electoral roll since December. Eligible people have until 30 April to register to vote in the election, which will involve all 38 deputy positions at the States. The States said 15-year-olds could join the electoral roll but they could not vote until they were 16. Colette Falla, registrar general of electors, said it was a "very quick and simple process" to register.
