Porsche Penske Stays 1-2 with Six Hours Remaining in Rolex 24
The No.6 and No. 7 switched at the 15-hour mark with the No. 7 retaking the lead with six hours remaining in the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
The No. 24, piloted by Philip Eng, has reentered the top three, passing the No. 60 on an alternate pit strategy.
Colin Braun held the lead in the No. 60 for a long stint in the early hours of the Sunday portion of the 24-hour race. When Felix Rosenqvist took over in the 16th hour, he brushed the tire barrier in turn 6, causing damage to the Acura's left front. His IndyCar competitor, Scott Dixon, now pilots the vehicle 68 seconds behind the leading Porsches.
Brendon Hartley completed the top five and the only remaining Cadillac, with Pascal Wehrlein in the No. 85 and Robin Frijns in the No. 25 BMW, following in sixth and seventh.
Among the GTP entries that have lost the battle to attrition are the No. 63 Lamborghini Sc63, which retired in the first hour; the No. 40 Cadillac, which retired on lap 245 after starting the 'Big One'; the No. 5 Porsche, which retired on lap 352; and most recently, the No. 31 Cadillac, which retired on lap 542.
LMP2 is led by the No. 99 AO Racing Oreca 07 Gibson, piloted by Christian Rasmussen, who leads the LMP2 field by five seconds over No. 8 of Job Van Uitert and Colton Herta in the NO. 04.
Madison Snow leads the GTD Pro Class in the No. 1 Paul Miller Racing BMW M4 GT3 Evo ahead of Klaus Bachler and Dennis Olson.
