Insider reveals what Golden State Warriors covet for Jonathan Kuminga

Jonathan Kuminga is reportedly drawing significant interest from the Sacramento Kings. Kuminga is an unrestricted free agent this summer and has yet to reach an agreement with the Golden State Warriors over a new contract. Sacramento has reportedly engaged the Warriors front office over a potential sign-and-trade. According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, who was speaking on a recent episode of 95.7 The Game, the Warriors are holding out for an unprotected first-round pick in any potential deal. Amick noted that if Sacramento was to put an unprotected first-round pick into a trade package for Kuminga, the Warriors would likely accept the proposal. "So, it feels like that the focus for the Warriors, I mean, for one, I was actually told that that Keegan Murray and Keon Ellis have not even been discussed for what it's worth," Amick said. "And then on top of that, if the Warriors focus seems to be on the pick and if the Kings went the Warriors request is then go completely unprotected on the 2030 first rounder. And I think if the Kings obliged, then it feels like that deal would get done. And so it feels like the focus is more on the pick than it is them trying to get any other young prospects from the Kings." Kuminga is a former lottery pick. He also has genuine upside as a potential All-Star of the future. It makes sense that Golden State would want a future draft pick as part of any deal, likely due to the value that would have on the trade market in the coming years. However, draft picks are at a premium since the new Collective Barganing Agreement, so the Kings may be reluctant to part with such a valuable asset, especially without any restrictions placed on it. Sooner or later, the Kuminga situation must come to a resolution. Whether that's via an agreement with the Kings, or another roster, or with Kuminga signing his qualifying offer with the Warriors. Right now, however, the only thing that looks set in stone is that the explosive forward's tenure in the Bay Area is coming to a close. This post originally appeared on Warriors Wire! NBA Insider reveals Sacramento Kings' best trade offer for Warriors' Jonathan Kuminga

The Sacramento Kings have been linked with a move for Jonathan Kuminga throughout the summer. The Golden State Warriors forward is a restricted free agent, but has been in no rush to reach an agreement on a new deal, instead opting to explore his options around the NBA. Sacramento would provide a fresh start for the former lottery pick, while not being too much of an off-court adjustment, being just a few hours' drive from the Chase Center. If the Kings were to acquire Kuminga, it would have to be via a sign-and-trade, made all the more difficult due to the base-layer compensation rule in the NBA's Collective Barganing Agreement. However, that doesn't seem to be deterring new Kings General Manager Scott Perry. In a recent article for The Athletic, NBA Insider Sam Amick detailed what the Kings' most competitive trade offer for Kuminga has looked like. "As for the Kings, who last spoke with the Warriors earlier this week, team sources say they've offered a three-year, $63 million deal for Kuminga in a proposal that would send veteran guard Malik Monk and their 2030 first-round pick (lottery protected) to the Warriors (that deal would require the Warriors to move more salary elsewhere to stay under the first apron, likely Moses Moody or Buddy Hield)," Amick wrote. "If that pick didn't convey, then the Warriors would get the least favorable of the Kings or San Antonio's first-round pick in 2031. Those protections have been the primary sticking point, team sources said, as the Warriors have insisted that the first-rounder be unprotected. Thus, the stalemate." As things currently stand, the Warriors haven't accepted any potential trade offer for Kuminga. Instead, the franchise would likely prefer him to sign a new deal, so that they can turn their attention to upgrading last season's roster. Unfortunately for the Warriors, Kuminga will likely continue to take his time as he waits to see what other opportunities arise. If a sign-and-trade doesn't materialize, Kuminga will likely sign his qualifying offer, which would make him an unrestricted free agent next summer. No matter what, his tenure in Golden State appears to be winding down; the only question is how much longer it will last. This post originally appeared on Warriors Wire! Jonathan Kuminga rejects Golden State Warriors contract offer over key reason

Jonathan Kuminga has reportedly received and rejected a new contract offer from the Golden State Warriors. The explosive forward is reportedly pushing back on the franchise, asking him to waive a no-trade clause that would be pre-built into the contract under the terms of the current Collective Barganing Agreement. Kuminga's reluctance is reportedly due to not wanting to concede too much control to the Warriors' front office. By waiving the no-trade clause, Kuminga wouldn't have any control over where the franchise sent him, if they decided to capitalize on interest from around the NBA. "Kuminga believes accepting the Warriors' two-year offer with a team option, along with forfeiting trade veto rights, cedes too much control to a franchise he believes has stunted and strung his career along for four seasons, sources said," ESPN's Anthony Slater reported. "...Based on the collective bargaining agreement, the Warriors' proposed one-plus-one contract would have an inherent no-trade clause, as Kuminga's next team wouldn't maintain his Bird rights. That would give Kuminga a level of control over his next NBA home, should the Warriors decide to move him. But the Warriors have requested that he waive that implied no-trade clause, sources said, similar to what D'Angelo Russell did for his Lakers contract in the summer of 2023." Kuminga has reportedly explored his options this summer, including conversations with both the Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings over what a potential role would look like. Nevertheless, Golden State holds all the cards in the saga. As a restricted free agent, any deal to move Kuminga out of the Bay Area would be via a sign-and-trade. According to Slater, the Warriors are yet to be enticed by any trade package on offer. Kuminga's situation with Golden State is starting to reach a boiling point. The Warriors will likely begin to play hardball if the current stalemate continues much further. At which point, Kuminga will likely sign his qualifying offer to become an unrestricted free agent next summer. This post originally appeared on Warriors Wire! Follow us on Facebook and Twitter!
