Brian Kelly Takes Stance on Arch Manning
Brian Kelly Takes Stance on Arch Manning originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Brian Kelly wasn't able to keep Arch Manning in his home state. The LSU Tigers head coach is frequently reminded of that, although Garrett Nussmeier is regarded in the same echelon as — if not higher than — the Texas Longhorns signal-caller. Advertisement "Now, Manning is extremely talented, but he's got to go do it," Kelly said Tuesday on ESPN's "College GameDay Podcast." "And there's going to be a couple of days where it doesn't come out the way it's supposed to. How do you bounce back? How do you come back from that? ... I can see the assessment of Manning, he's an outstanding player. But I'll take the guy that's been in the SEC and seen what it looks like." Manning made two starts for the Longhorns last season as Quinn Ewers was sidelined by injury. He's been analyzed ad nauseam this offseason. Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning (16) warms up against the Clemson Tigers during the College Football J. Rebilas-Imagn Images "Look, we hear it every day because he's from Louisiana," Kelly said of Manning. "And listen, there's another guy that hears it all the time and that's Garrett Nussmeier. He's committed, and more than anything else, he's experienced. And in this league, you need to see the bullets flying. Ask Jayden Daniels when he threw for (80) yards against Auburn (in 2022). Advertisement "We were coming back on the plane and I told Mike Denbrock and Joe Sloan at the time, 'If we keep throwing for (80) yards, we're not going to be together very long. We need (Daniels) to develop." Daniels wound up winning the Heisman Trophy the next season. Nussmeier followed that up by posting the most productive go-round of any first-year LSU starter. He threw for 4,052 yards, the second-most in a single season in Tigers history, and only Texas' Quinn Ewers had more passing touchdowns (31) than Nussmeier (29) in the SEC. "All I'm saying is, Nussmeier has seen it," Kelly said. "He knows what he's going to get. There's a confidence he'll bring each and every game through experience, maybe even through some scar tissue, that's going to allow him to be, I believe, the best quarterback." Will Arch Manning live up to the hype? LSU's Brian Kelly weighs in
Will Arch Manning live up to the hype? LSU's Brian Kelly weighs in The question is, will Arch Manning live up to the hype? Brian Kelly weighs in. As the Texas Longhorns prepare for their inaugural season in the Southeastern Conference, the spotlight on quarterback Arch Manning continues to intensify. However, LSU Tigers head coach Brian Kelly is urging caution before crowning Manning among the SEC's elite, instead highlighting the proven experience of his own quarterback, Garrett Nussmeier. During a recent appearance on ESPN's College GameDay Podcast, Kelly acknowledged Manning's record and talent but emphasized the challenges that come with playing quarterback in the SEC. 'Look, we hear it every day because [Manning is] from Louisiana. … And listen, there's another guy that hears it all the time and that's Garrett Nussmeier,' Kelly said. 'He's committed, and more than anything else, he's experienced. And in this league, you need to see the bullets flying.' Kelly praised Manning's potential but stressed the importance of on-field production and resilience. 'Now, Manning is extremely talented. But he's got to go do it. And there's going to be a couple of days where it doesn't come out the way it's supposed to,' Kelly continued. 'How do you bounce back, how do you come back from that? How does it work the next week in your gameplan? So there's a lot out there. I can see the assessment of Manning, he's an outstanding player. But I'll take the guy that's been in the SEC and seen what it looks like.' Both Manning and Nussmeier are expected to be among the top quarterbacks in the SEC this season, alongside South Carolina's LaNorris Sellers and Florida's DJ Lagway. Manning, who started two games in 2024, finished the year with 939 passing yards, nine touchdowns, two interceptions, and added 108 rushing yards with four scores on the ground. Nussmeier, meanwhile, posted career-best numbers with 4,052 passing yards, 29 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. Texas and LSU are not scheduled to meet in the regular season in 2025 -- the two will eventually meet when the SEC schedule for 2026 and 2027 are revealed, with both teams guaranteed to play each other at home respectively. If rumors are true, it's likely Arch Manning will still be at the helm of the Longhorns in 2026, choosing an additional year of experience at the college level over a potential NFL Draft early scenario.

Ryan Day's Family Gets Major News on Wednesday
Ryan Day and his family had a big year in 2024. Day faced severe criticism after Ohio State's regular-season finale loss to the unranked Michigan Wolverines. So much so that the Ohio State program leader was forced to hire security to protect himself and his family. Advertisement But in response to this criticism, Day ultimately went on to lead his program to a College Football Playoff national championship victory over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish this past January. As Day now prepares for the Buckeyes' title defense in 2025, his son, RJ, is fielding offers from several programs around the nation. RJ is a 2027 quarterback prospect from St. Francis DeSales High School in Columbus, Ohio. On Wednesday, he announced a scholarship offer from offensive coordinator Jeff Nixon and the Syracuse Orange. "Thank you @CoachNixon_Cuse for offering me a scholarship to Syracuse University!!" RJ wrote on X. This scholarship offer from Syracuse marks the 13th offer of Day's recruitment so far. The 6-foot-1 QB has also received offers from Akron, Boston College, Bowling Green, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Marshall, Miami (OH), Rhode Island, Temple and Toldeo. Advertisement Last week, Ryan Day discussed his son's recruiting process on the ESPN "College GameDay Podcast." 'As fast as this is going, and has gone, knowing he's going to be in college in two years... It's terrifying,' Day said. "He's my best friend... He comes to games with me. We're able to share this game of football together. He's obsessed with the game, so that's been really cool." Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day© Samantha Madar/Columbus Dispatch / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images 'You know at the end of the day, when we go on these recruiting visits, I don't really care about the facilities or the weight room,' Day continued. "I just want to know who's going to help raise my son. Who are the men that are going to be around to help him become a better football player, but a better man off the field, and is actually going to care about him. I think that makes us all better coaches when you look at it like that." Day and the Buckeyes will kickoff their 2025 college football schedule with a highly-anticipated matchup against the Texas Longhorns on Aug. 30.

Arch Manning hype train will lead to Texas star becoming college football's 'ultimate villain,' ESPN host says
Just a couple of years ago, Arch Manning was one of the most highly sought high school recruits in the nation. He ultimately decided to take his potential and high-profile last name to Austin. When Quinn Ewers declared for the NFL Draft, it opened the door for Manning to move into the starter's role for the Texas Longhorns in 2025. As spring games around the country get underway, ESPN host and commentator Rece Davis made a bold prediction about the role Manning could play when he takes the next step in his college career. As the season gets closer, the hype surrounding Manning is bound to escalate. Davis suggested Manning could become "the ultimate villain" because some fans will end up appreciating him even more, while others could experience more feelings of resentment. "It's unfortunate. Because of the attention he's going to get, he's going to become a fan favorite by those outside of Texas. And (for) others outside of Texas, he's going to become the ultimate villain, and I don't just mean Oklahoma people," Davis explained during a recent edition of the "College GameDay Podcast." Davis then compared the Manning hype train to what often occurs when a new movie or TV show becomes popular and is well received by the public, but inevitably some will strongly oppose it or attempt to discredit it all together. "That's what's going to happen with Arch," Davis predicted. Manning appeared in 10 games last season, including two he started in place of an injured Ewers. The young quarterback finished the 2024 season with 939 passing yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions. Texas defeated Clemson in the first round of the College Football Playoff, before a thrilling overtime victory over Arizona State in the quarterfinal. The eventual national champion Ohio State Buckeyes eliminated the Longhorns from playoff contention in January. Texas opens the 2025 season against the Buckeyes in Columbus Aug. 30.
