Doris Burke's ESPN future in doubt as Richard Jefferson gets new deal
Richard Jefferson is finalizing an agreement with ESPN/ABC to return to his role as an NBA analyst on the top broadcasting team, according to The Athletic. With Jefferson, 45, set to return to a team that features Mike Breen, the third leg of the booth seems to be in flux. Questions remain about Doris Burke's future with the ABC crew, per the outlet. It's been a bit of a revolving door since in the main booth, with Doc Rivers joining Breen and Burke, promising that he would not return to coaching, but he bolted for the Bucks head coaching job. Advertisement His replacement, JJ Redick, also left after a few months in the role to be the Lakers' bench boss. That led to Jefferson getting the nod, though it seems more changes could be coming to the booth, if Burke doesn't stick around. 3 ESPN analyst Doris Burke NBAE via Getty Images 3 The trio that has been ESPN's First team. Jefferson, however, doesn't seem to be keen on breaking up the band. During the College Softball World Series, he came on to the 'SEC Now 'show wearing a shirt that read, 'My Favorite Broadcaster is… Doris Burke.' NiJaree Canady pitched both games for Texas, earning the win on Thursday to move her to 34-6 on the season. The Longhorns finished as the WCWS runner-up in both 2022 and 2024, but now have a chance to capture their first championship. MoreHow to Watch Texas Tech vs Texas - Game 2 Date: Thursday, June 5, 2025 Time: 8:00 PM EDT Channel: ESPN Stream: Fubo (Try for free) The Final of the College Softball World Series has arrived, and Game 2 is on Thursday after Texas came from behind to beat Texas Tech 2-1 on Wednesday night. Reese Atwood and No. 6 seed Texas will take on Mihyia Davis and No. 12 seed Texas Tech in the hopes that no Game 3 will be needed. Texas pitcher Teagan Kavan picked up the win, throwing seven scoreless innings with three hits and three strikeouts. The only run that Texas Tech scored was unearned on a single to center from Mihyia Davis in the second inning. Wednesday night's game was thrilling. The Austin Regional MVP, Reese Atwood, was the deciding factor in this game for Texas. In the bottom of the sixth inning, with Texas down 1-0, she singled to left field, scoring Kayden Henry and Mia Scott to win the first game of the series. What made the go-ahead hit so interesting is that Texas Tech was in the midst of intentionally walking Atwood, but a 3-0 count was close enough to the plate where she was able to rip a two-run single into left field. It marked Atwood's first hit at the 2025 WCWS, and now Texas moves one win away from its first national title in program history. In this all-Texas final, if necessary, Game 3 will take place on Friday. Live stream the Texas Tech vs. Texas on Fubo: Start your free trial now! Regional restrictions may apply. Women's College World Series schedule: How the NCAA Softball Tournament works
If you buy something through a link in this article, we may earn commission. Pricing and availability are subject to change. The field of 64 in the NCAA softball tournament has been whittled down to eight teams that will converge on Devon Park in Oklahoma City, Okla. this week for the 2025 Women's College World Series. For the second consecutive season and the eighth time overall, the elite eight remaining teams includes Texas softball, which knocked off Clemson in a thriller of a super regional series this past weekend in Austin. The College Softball World Series starts Thursday. Advertisement Have questions about the WCWS? Wondering about who made it and when teams such as Oklahoma, Texas, UCLA or Oregon may play? It's a double-elimination format from May 29-June 2, which means a team can endure one loss, get placed in the bracket with the other one-loss teams and still win the national championship. But two losses preceding the championship series, regardless of the timing, means an end to the season. More: Texas SS Leighann Goode lives up to last name, Horns punch ticket to College World Series How does the WCWS championship series work? The two teams that get through the initial round of games without two losses will meet in a best-of-three series that starts June 4. Both teams will enter the championship series on even footing; losses suffered during the first part of the WCWS don't matter once the championship series begins. When would Texas softball have to play Oklahoma? Any meeting between the bitter rivals — the Sooners beat Texas in the 2022 and 2024 WCWS championship series and swept the Longhorns this season — depends on first-game results. But it could come soon; if Texas beats Florida in its first game and Oklahoma handles Tennessee in its opener, the Longhorns and Sooners will meet in the second game for each team Saturday.
