Columbus Blue Jackets' Yegor Chinakhov requests trade, cites 'misunderstandings'
Yegor Chinakhov, a forward from Russia and a former first-round draft pick of the Blue Jackets, has asked for a trade from the franchise. The agent for Chinakhov made a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, about the trade request on July 17. 'I had some misunderstandings with the coach during the season,' read the post quoting Chinakhov. 'Now I would be glad to have a trade. I would like to move to a different location. Will I return to Russia? As long as I can play in the NHL, I will keep developing here.' Chinakhov, who was selected with the No. 21 overall selection in 2020, missed nearly half of last season with a back injury, an issue that also sidelined him for the final 17 games in the previous season. NHL SCHEDULE RELEASE: Key dates for 2025-26 season He has not appeared in more than 53 games in a season since he was a rookie in 2021-22. Chinakhov has 34 goals and 37 assists over his four seasons in Columbus with a career-high 16 goals and 13 assists in 2023-24. Scottie Scheffler Makes Candid Admission Days Before The Open
Scottie Scheffler Makes Candid Admission Days Before The Open originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The 2025 Open Championship, the final major of the year, tees off this Thursday at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland. With the season's biggest storylines circling here, it's also a chance for World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler to add another major to his already dominant season, one that includes a second Masters title, a PGA Championship win, and an Olympic gold medal. Advertisement Scheffler, who enters the Open riding high with three wins in his last 10 events, opened up during a pre-tournament press conference in rare and revealing fashion. He spoke about the emotional cost of professional golf, saying, 'It feels like you work your whole life to celebrate winning a tournament for like a few minutes.' Scottie Scheffler looks at the trophy of Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Madar/Columbus Dispatch / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Reflecting on his victory at the Byron Nelson earlier this year, he said, 'It's such an amazing moment… then it's like, OK, what are we going to eat for dinner? Life goes on.' Despite his on-course success, Scheffler admitted he struggles with the deeper meaning of it all. 'This is not a fulfilling life,' he said. 'It's fulfilling from the sense of accomplishment, but it's not fulfilling from a sense of the deepest places of your heart.' He emphasized that being a good father and husband is more important than winning trophies. 'If my golf ever started affecting my home life… that's going to be the last day that I play out here.' Advertisement Scheffler's honesty contrasts with the mindset of past icons like Tiger Woods and Kobe Bryant, and perhaps reflects a shift in how today's athletes view their careers. Now, as the Open returns to Portrush where Shane Lowry triumphed in 2019, the challenge ahead is both mental and physical. For Scheffler, the goal remains the same. But as he says, 'Playing professional sports is a really weird thing… we work so hard for something that's so fleeting.' Dad of 2 singing karaoke shot dead at Ohio bar, cops say. ‘Got like 3 words out'
An Ohio man was arrested after authorities say he fatally shot a man singing karaoke at a bar. Just before midnight July 11, 42-year-old Benjamin Hawk was at a bar in Buckeye Lake, the Licking County Sheriff's Office said in a news release. Hawk had just started singing karaoke, the bar's owner, Debbie Williamson, told the Columbus Dispatch. He 'got like three words out,' then there were gunshots, she told the outlet. Richard Lindgren, 59, walked up behind Hawk, who was singing karaoke with Lindgren's ex-wife, and shot him in the back of the head, court records said, according to WBNS. Officials charged Lindgren with murder and issued a nationwide warrant for him, deputies said. On July 12, he was arrested in Orangeburg, South Carolina, according to Licking County Sheriff Randy Thorp. Attorney information for Lindgren was not immediately available. Hawk was a father of two young girls, according to a GoFundMe page. He was 'loved by many and never met a stranger,' the page said. 'Ben Hawk was one of the most peaceful people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. He always stood for what was right, no matter the consequences,' one person wrote on Facebook. Videos on Hawk's Facebook page show him singing karaoke, and Krooners' Karaoke in Ohio shared a post with a photo of Hawk as a 2025 Karaoke Cup state finalist. 'Ben or as we called him 'Donkey,' was a larger in life guy. He was fun, loving & a really great guy, friend and singer,' the post said. Buckeye Lake is about a 30-mile drive east from Columbus.

Caleb Downs gives his thoughts on the Ohio State defense potential in 2025
Ohio State has the No. 1 defense by a lot of metrics last college football season despite a grueling schedule against several top ten teams. It helped to have a veteran group with plenty of skill, many of which went off to play football on Sundays with 14 players selected in the 2025 NFL draft. One might not be surprised, then, to see a bit of a drop off on that side of the ball this fall, right? After all, replacing that many starters in key positions has to take a toll on how disruptive and productive the defense can be during a season in which the schedule will not be kind. But wait. According to superstar safety Caleb Downs, he believes the defense can still play at a high level in 2025. In fact, he thinks the talent is there to not see much of a regression, at least according to an article from Bill Rabinowitz of the Columbus Dispatch. 'I think we have the chance to be just as good as we were last year, just based off the talent that we have,' Downs said. 'We're still Ohio State. We still have a lot of talent.' The Buckeyes lose eight starters in total, but OSU rotated plenty of players in last season, so it's not like those that are ready to step in and take over are as green as it might seem like. The All-American safety thinks the talent ready to plug and play can get it done. 'Those guys have been here and waited their turn,' Downs said. 'Just to see them step into new roles, it's going to be great to watch. For that to happen, we have to remember that it's a team effort, and that includes new defensive coordinator Matt Patricia's ability to install whatever system he's going to run, and get the unit to play together and with purpose. Downs is a big fan in that regard, too. 'Great teacher, great educator of the game,' Downs said of Patricia. 'I've learned a lot from him in his short time here. He's taught me a lot of football, so I'm excited for how we're going to play on the field.' Well then, there you have it. Optimism usually runs high before the season starts, but if we're going to believe anyone, why not believe a guy who has seen some top-end skill at both Alabama and Ohio State, and who is one of the best defenders in the country? Preseason camp will start at the end of the month, and all of those new players ready to be the next man up will try to put the finishing touches on turning the page from the Jim Knowles era to Patricia and show everyone that things will just keep humming along in Columbus.
