Nick Offerman, who played Ron Swanson on Parks and Recreation, also reflected on the loss, telling People magazine: 'The cast has been texting together about it all day and we're just heartbroken. Jonathan was such a sweet guy and we loved having him as our Chief Ken Hotate. A terrible tragedy.' Joss's husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, claimed in a Facebook post that the couple had been subjected to ongoing homophobic harassment in their neighborhood, including threats and a house fire. He alleged they had received repeated warnings that their home would be set on fire. However, the San Antonio Police Department stated there is currently 'no evidence to indicate Mr. Joss' murder was related to his sexual orientation.' As the investigation continues, friends and colleagues are remembering Joss for his kindness and significant contributions to television and film.

The officers attempted life-saving measures until medics arrived, but Joss was pronounced dead at the scene. The shooter fled in a vehicle but was detained by officers a block away and booked for murder. Joss voiced John Redcorn from Season 2 through Season 13 of "King of the Hill" and already recorded lines for the upcoming revival of the popular animated series. He took over the role from original actor Victor Aaron after he died in 1996 in a car accident, as per Variety. Jonathan Joss, best known for voicing John Redcorn in King of the Hill and appearing in Parks and Recreation, has died after being shot near his former home in San Antonio, Texas. He was 59. San Antonio police said officers responded to a shooting report at around 7pm on Sunday. Joss was found wounded near the street and was pronounced dead at the scene despite emergency efforts. A suspect, named by authorities as Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, has been arrested on suspicion of murder. Joss's husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, has alleged the shooting was a homophobic hate crime, stating the couple were targeted while visiting the site of their former home, which had burned down earlier this year. Gonzales said the pair were grieving the discovery of their deceased dog's remains when they were confronted and Joss was shot. In a statement posted on Facebook, Gonzales said: "Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone. We were grieving. When the man fired, Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life." However, police said their investigation had "found no evidence to indicate that Mr Joss's murder was related to his sexual orientation," though added that they are continuing to examine all aspects of the case. Joss voiced John Redcorn for over a dozen seasons of King of the Hill, and also portrayed Chief Ken Hotate in Parks and Recreation. He had recently attended the ATX Television Festival in Austin, where the upcoming King of the Hill revival was discussed. Tributes have been paid by former co-stars and creators. Nick Offerman, who starred in Parks and Recreatio n, said: "Jonathan was such a sweet guy and we loved having him as our Chief Ken Hotate. A terrible tragedy." King of the Hill creators Mike Judge, Greg Daniels and Saladin Patterson said: "Jonathan Joss brought John Redcorn to life for over a dozen seasons, including in the upcoming revival. His voice will be missed at King of the Hill." Joss, who was of Comanche and White Mountain Apache heritage, also appeared in films including Lone Ranger and Comanche Moon.

They attempted to administer 'life saving measures' while waiting for EMS, but Joss was pronounced dead at the scene when paramedics arrived. According to Gonzales, he and Joss went to the property to get their mail when they saw the skull of one of their dogs out in the open, causing them "severe emotional distress." 'We began yelling and crying in response to the pain of what we saw," he alleged. "While we were doing this a man approached us. He started yelling violent homophobic slurs at us. When the man fired Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life.' Police attempted to revive Joss, but when paramedics arrived, they pronounced him dead, The New York Times reports. A neighbor, Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, 56, was arrested and is charged with murder. Police have not commented on a motive and said the investigation is continuing. However, Kern de Gonzales wrote that Joss was killed "by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other." Joss, born and raised in San Antonio, was best known as the voice of John Redcorn, a Native American masseur and healer, on the Fox animated series King of the Hill. The actor was of Apache and Comanche heritage. He had already recorded some of his lines for the series' upcoming reboot, Variety notes. The reboot will be available in August on Hulu. He played a Native American chief, Ken Hotate, on five episodes of Parks and Recreation, a situation comedy on NBC that starred Amy Poehler. He appeared on other TV shows, such as Ray Donovan, Friday Night Lights, Tulsa King, and Walker, Texas Ranger, and in films that included the remakes of True Grit and The Magnificent Seven. He also was a musician with the Red Corn Band, the name of which references his King of the Hill character. Kern de Gonzales said in his Facebook post that he and Joss had frequently been harassed and threatened by homophobic neighbors. This included threats to set their house on fire, Kern de Gonzales said. Joss said at the time of the fire that he may have left something on that caused it, but Friday at the ATX TV Festival in Austin, he said, 'My house burned down three months ago because I'm gay,' according to People. He spoke from the audience and said he was disappointed not to have been invited to be in an onstage panel that featured producers Mike Judge and Greg Daniels. Joss and Kern de Gonzales were married on Valentine's Day of this year. 'He gave me more love in our time together than most people ever get,' Kern de Gonzales wrote in his Facebook post.
