Mother charged with stabbing 3 children on Chicago's South Side
Police say woman cut her three small children's wrists in Chicago apartment Police say woman cut her three small children's wrists in Chicago apartment Police say woman cut her three small children's wrists in Chicago apartment A woman has been charged with stabbing her three children earlier this week in Chicago's Greater Englewood neighborhood. Aurionah-Rakii-Karie Parker-White, 23, has been charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder and three counts of aggravated battery. Police said, around 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, she attacked her children – a 1-year-old girl, a 3-year-old boy, and a 5-year-old boy – for unknown reasons by cutting their wrists at an apartment building in the 7100 block of South Harvard Avenue. Neighbor Devaughen Stringfellow said he jumped in after their mother came out of their apartment, bloody and pleading for help. "She kept screaming like: 'I need help! Help me! My baby! I called the police! They didn't come!'" Stringfellow said. "So, at first, I wasn't going to put them in my truck with the blood — but I threw them all in the truck." He drove the mother and children to St. Bernard Hospital, and they were later transferred to University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital, where they were listed in serious condition Wednesday night. According to unconfirmed police dispatch reports, the woman got aggressive and fought with hospital staff at St. Bernard. Witnesses said the mother kept repeating that she could not raise the children alone. Court information was not immediately available for Parker-White. The video above is from an earlier report.

4-year-old hurt falling out of apartment window, Chicago police say; mother says unit is unsafe
A 4-year-old boy was hurt when he accidentally fell out of an apartment window on Memorial Day, Chicago police said. Police were called to a home in the 3700 block of South Vincennes in the city's Bronzeville neighborhood just before 2:40 p.m. Lekesha Sails said her son Kevin was lucky enough to land in the bushes by the apartment building, which left him scratched and bruised but not more severely injured. CPD said the boy had a bruise on his forehead and was taken to Comer Children's Hospital for treatment in good condition. "He was just screaming and hollering and throughout the whole process, when we went to the hospital, he was in and out," she said. Sails said she had gone to use the bathroom when Kevin, a curious and energic child, opened his bedroom window and fell from the third floor. And she said the situation was avoidable. Sails said Kevin has been diagnosed with autism, and their unit in Oakwood Shore Apartments does not accommodate their needs. She pointed out exposed wiring, a patio door that doesn't lock, another exit that unlocks with a lever well within Kevin's reach, and how the window he fell out of after pushing it open doesn't even have a screen to deter him. She said she's spent years asking for a different unit that is safer for her son. Now, she said the safety concerns are no longer hypothetical and she needs someone to help her get out. "I think I will be more at ease once I am relocated. I don't feel safe here. And especially for his safety now," she said. While Kevin's injuries don't look severe, his mother said he has follow-up doctors' appointments to keep an eye on his brain function and his spine. Chicago police said an investigation by Area One detectives is ongoing.

Man charged with shooting death of 13-year-old nephew at home on Chicago's South Side
A man has been arrested on child endangerment charges, accused of accidentally shooting and killing his 13-year-old nephew at his home in Englewood earlier this year. Kemonte Rice, 25, has been charged with felony counts of child endangerment causing death and obstructing justice in the March 24 shooting death of Tawon Tribble Jr. inside Rice's home in the 500 block of West 65th Place. Prosecutors said, around 5 p.m. that afternoon, the two were hanging out in a bedroom in Rice's home, when relatives inside the house heard a loud boom. Tawon came out of the bedroom and yelled that a gun had gone off, before collapsing on the kitchen floor from a gunshot wound to the chest. Tawon was taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Rice told police and family members several different stories, including that Tawon had been playing with the gun, that he had told Tawon to unload the gun and clean the bullets, and that someone else had shot him. Prosecutors said, after the shooting, Rice also hid the gun at his mother's house down the street. Rice was questioned the day of the shooting and released without charges, but after a witness helped police find the gun, and ballistics tests were conducted on the weapon, Rice was arrested again on Monday, and admitted that the gun went off when he grabbed it from Tawon's lap. A judge ordered rice held at Cook County Jail while he awaits trial. He's due back in court on June 10.
