Sask Expo Regina dissolving permanently, organizers say
WATCH: Comic book and entertainment fans in Regina are sure to be disappointed, as Sask. Expo Regina will be dissolving permanently. WATCH: Comic book and entertainment fans in Regina are sure to be disappointed, as Sask. Expo Regina will be dissolving permanently. After years of providing a venue for comic book and pop culture fans in the Queen City, Sask Expo Regina is now shuttering its operations permanently. 'We're very sad to have to announce that Sask Expo Regina is dissolving,' the organization announced in a post to social media on Monday. 'We have had every intention of holding a 2025 event, but could not make it happen, despite pursuing multiple avenues to keep it going.' In the post, the organization identified lower attendance since the COVID-19 pandemic and venue issues as reasons for the decision to call it quits. Organizers thanked those who supported the event through the years – and shared that it's their hope that any similar events in the future have the 'full support of the city and the venue.' During its 2023 show, the expo boasted 180 artists and vendors including cosplay guests. The event attracted some notable celebrities, such as Judith Hoag (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Halloweentown), Khary Payton (The Walking Dead, Teen Titans), Nolan North (Uncharted video game), Amy Jo Johnson (Power Rangers), Ross Marquand (The Walking Dead, Marvel's Avengers), Roger Clark (Red Dead Redemption II), and Ryan Hurst (Sons of Anarchy, The Walking Dead). Regina expo Sask Expo Regina will be taking place this weekend at the International Trade Centre (ITC). (Photo courtesy of Sask Expo Regina's Facebook page) The event's 2024 edition, which was set run from Sept 28 and 29th, was postponed to 2025 following health concerns from one of the organizers. The abrupt cancellation led to complaints from some vendors who requested reimbursement. Organizers defended the decision, saying that all fees were rolled over to the expo's next show. The post did not elaborate on if vendors will be reimbursed their fees, seeing as the event is no more. Those with questions are encouraged to email @

After Superman's Box Office Success, James Gunn Unveils First Supergirl Poster
Last Updated: In the poster, Supergirl is casually seen sipping a drink and standing right next to the iconic logo of the character. James Gunn is giving fans a fresh, bold take on Supergirl, and it is far from anything expected. Following the release of David Corenswet-led Superman, the director released the first poster of Supergirl, and it is already turning heads. Towards the end of Superman, fans got a glimpse of the new superheroine. The scene shows a 'drunk" Supergirl at the Fortress of Solitude, trying to get her dog, Krypto, back from Superman. Taking to his social media account on Wednesday, July 16, the renowned director dropped the first poster for Supergirl, which perfectly captures her rebellious spirit. In it, Supergirl is casually seen sipping on some drink, standing right next to the iconic logo of the characters, which says 'Look Out," totally opposite to Superman's 'Look Up" tagline. The film will star Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El / Supergirl. In a conversation with ScreenRant, James Gunn revealed that the new version of Supergirl is going to be a complete 'mess." He discussed how the DCU's version of Supergirl differs significantly from Superman, and also highlighted how their backgrounds shape their stories. When asked if the viewers will meet the 'messy" version of Supergirl in the upcoming film, the director said, 'Yeah, that's her. She's a mess. She's a total mess." He added, 'I think as we learn, she's had a completely different background from Superman. A much more difficult background. He's had this wonderful upbringing by these two parents who loved him and were very healthy. And her background was much different from that. And she's ended up different from her cousin." Meanwhile, in an interview with ComicBook, the DC co-head discussed Milly Alcock's version of Supergirl, noting how this version of the superheroine differs from others. Instead of presenting her as the cheerful cousin of Superman on Earth, they have taken a different approach by telling her emotional backstory, where she fights her own battles. He said, '(Flashbacks to Krypton are) always a possibility. But I think those things are really integral to the two characters and the differences between them, and that Clark really does have sort of this really happy childhood." The Superman director continued, 'And Supergirl, especially the DCU Supergirl, she's kind of a mess. I mean, she's, she's had real issues growing up. And it is based on the comic where she watched person after person after person dying in front of her as her piece of the planet disintegrated." Directed by Craig Gillespie, Supergirl will be based on the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic. Besides Milly, it will also feature Eve Ridley, Matthias Schoenaerts, Jason Momoa, David Krumholtz, and Emily Beecham. The film is scheduled for release in theatres in June 2026. SUPERMAN Has a Tiny Cameo From the SMALLVILLE Lex Luthor, Michael Rosenbaum
We can confidently say that James Gunn's Superman has one of the all-time great live-action Lex Luthors in Nicholas Hoult. But what most moviegoers probably didn't know is that there's actually a second Lex Luthor actor in the film. At least, his voice is. Thanks to Comic Book, we've learned that actor Michael Rosenbaum, who played Lex Luthor for seven seasons of Smallville, voiced one of Luthor's Raptor henchmen in the film. In the scene where Eve Teschmacher is being held captive in Lex's pocket universe prison, we hear Rosenbaum's voice say 'Sending sexy selfies behind the back of Lex Luthor? She has to be the biggest idiot in the world.' Rosenbaum and director James Gunn are longtime friends, and Gunn even asked him to voice the character Martinex in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. So it's no surprise that he snuck him into Superman in a small voice role. And this voice cameo is just another in a long line of DC Universe roles for Rosenbaum. Not only did he play Lex Luthor in Smallville, but he also voiced the Flash in Justice League Unlimited. In addition, he voiced the younger Kid Flash in Teen Titans, and Deadman in The Brave and the Bold. Now he can finally add a live-action DC feature film to his resume. In an interview with Screen Rant, Michael Rosenbaum said 'James asked me to do something fun, so I have a couple of lines that I voice. He's one of my best friends, and he's very loyal. It's exciting. I think he's got a great vision, and he's putting his heart and soul into it and expressing that. Because he knows how important the character is.' The question is now, when is Gunn going to give his buddy a genuine on-screen role? One that's not just his voice? There are still plenty of DC Comics characters that have never been in a film. Surely Rosenbaum could play a live-action Deadman, or Animal Man, or one of dozens of choices. Someone's going to have to play Kite-Man eventually. Solve the daily Crossword

New Look at Galactus in Promo Spot for THE FANTASTIC FOUR
A new teaser for The Fantastic Four: First Steps just dropped, and it gives us our clearest look yet at the Devourer of Worlds. Up until now, most of the promo material has focused on the Silver Surfer, who's been playing intergalactic messenger, warning Earth's favorite superhero family about what's headed their way. There have been glimpses of Galactus here and there, but nothing that really captured the sheer scale of the cosmic threat. Near the end of the spot, as the Fantasticar zooms through the skyline, we get a shot of Galactus standing behind a towering skyscraper. That visual finally gives us a real sense of his size. In the comics, Galactus' height fluctuates wildly (he's been everything from hundreds to thousands of feet tall), and while this version doesn't appear to break the stratosphere just yet, there might be a reason for that. Galactus could be adjusting his form. As in, maybe he's showing up in a more "manageable" size before throwing down with the Fantastic Four. Visually, this Galactus is ripped straight from the comics. He's got the iconic purple armor, the crown-like helmet with the extended horns, glowing blue eyes—the whole deal. It's a huge course correction from his last cinematic appearance in 2007's Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer , where he was... a cloud. A big one, sure, but still just a space storm. 'The Silver Surfer makes plenty of trouble before Galactus shows up, and it's good he does because the Devourer of Worlds is nothing more than a giant cloud.' Ralph Ineson, who plays Galactus this time around, hasn't delivered any voice lines in the promos yet, but when he does, expect it to shake the theater. The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters July 25, 2025.

The Comic Book Chef from ‘Culinary Class Wars' takes over Honjokko with time-limited dishes
While we're waiting with baited breath for the next season of Netflix's hit cooking reality show Culinary Class Wars, chef Cho Kwang-hyo, also known as the Comic Book Chef, is coming to Hong Kong for a very limited time only. He'll be bringing a combination of Japanese, Korean, and Chinese flavours to Honjokko for a few days in person, followed by a month-long menu of selected dishes for Hongkongers to enjoy. Chef Cho's collaboration with Pirata group's own Korean-born executive chef Kyle Lee kicks off with dinner on July 4, followed by brunch and dinner on July 5. From oyster amuse bouche with a spicy Korean sauce, onion salsa, and tobiko; and Korean beef tartare contrasted with refreshing cold chicken and Sichuan cucumber salads, to a Korean take on the Japanese uni hot stone rice, diners can expect a delicious melding of Asia's best flavours, presented in chef Cho's signature experimental takes on cuisine. Highlights include the Korean soybean MacJeok seabass, and chef Cho's signature Dongpo pork complemented with mapo tofu and fried rice done the Korean way – the very dish that has guests clamouring to dine at his restaurants in Seoul. The feast is rounded off with a flower bun that comes with tofu cream, a playful full stop to culinary artistry and both chefs' Asian roots. As for their brunch menu, they'll be serving dishes such as Korean fried chicken glazed in soy garlic, soybean paste soup, sweet and sour pork gyoza, triple-flavour kimbap, as well as the beloved Dongpo pork. The dinner service is priced at $580 per person and the brunch runs for $438; diners can also tack on Perrier-Jouët Champagne for $348 or a traditional soju pairing for $298. And here's a heads up: Because there's been such overwhelming demand for seats on these two days, the chefs are adding a final dinner service on Sunday, July 6. Here's a great opportunity to meet this exciting on-screen chef in person, and to try the Comic Book Chef's offerings without the long waitlists and travelling to Korea. Even if you can't grab a seat at this hot event, don't sweat it, because diners can still enjoy select dishes from this collaboration, which will be available at Honjokko until August 3. Find out more and make bookings at their official website.
