Cops given instructions to charge Tishant's father

Drugs in disguise: Comm Kumar (centre) showing the drink sachets containing drugs seized during raids to members of the media during a press conference. JOHOR BARU: The police have received instructions to bring charges against the father of A. Tishant, who was initially reported missing and later believed to have died from strangulation, says Johor police chief Comm Datuk M. Kumar. However, he said it will only be carried out once Jempol police headquarters in Negri Sembilan completes the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. 'Our investigation involves the suspect's police report claiming that his son had gone missing, alongside another report made by his wife stating she had been assaulted by him,' he told a press conference at the state police headquarters yesterday. Comm Kumar said the suspect's wife first lodged a police report on July 22 claiming that she was physically abused by the suspect, who also took their only child away. He was then detained. 'The suspect was later released on police bail. He then lodged a police report alleging that he had left the child inside a car before the boy went missing. 'We opened another investigation paper under Section 31(1) of the Child Act for child neglect, and also a missing person's probe.' However, Comm Kumar said the police found inconsistencies in the suspect's recorded statements and re-arrested him. 'Investigations led us to the discovery of the boy's remains in Jempol, Negri Sembilan.' The suspect was then handed over to the Negri Sembilan police for further investigation. Tishant was reported missing in Taman Bukit Indah here on July 24 and four days later, his body was discovered buried in Rompin, Jempol. On July 29, strangulation was identified as the child's cause of death. On a separate matter, Comm Kumar said a 31-year-old Vietnamese woman who had been storing and distributing drugs from two apartment units over the past five months was arrested, with over RM4.9mil worth of drug-related substances seized. He added the suspect, believed to be part of a drug syndicate, had disguised the drugs in coffee and juice sachets. 'The operation was uncovered after two raids on July 25 and 26 at two units in the same gated apartment complex,' he said. 'She is believed to have used one unit as her residence and storage space, and the other for repackaging the drugs.' Each drug-laced drink sachet was sold for around RM250, he added. Comm Kumar said police seized 29.2kg of ecstasy powder, 131gm of ecstasy pills, and 20gm of ketamine, which was enough to supply more than 97,000 drug users. Police also confiscated drug- processing equipment, jewellery, RM3,000 cash, and S$193 (RM638). Comm Kumar said that police are seeking Terrence Ki Kek Ding, 35, to help in the investigation.

A. Tishant's father faces murder charges following investigation, says Johor top cop

JOHOR BARU: Johor police have received instructions to charge the suspect in the death of A. Tishant, the boy who was reported missing and believed to have died of strangulation. State police chief Comm Datuk M. Kumar said the suspect, who is the child's father, would only be charged once the Jempol district police headquarters in Negri Sembilan completes its investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. He noted that in Johor, the investigations against the suspect were carried out under Section 323 of the Penal Code, Section 18 of the Domestic Violence Act 1994 read together with Section 326A of the Penal Code, for allegedly assaulting his wife, as well as Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001. 'Our investigation includes the suspect's police report, which states that his son had gone missing, as well as a report from his wife claiming he assaulted her,' Comm Kumar told a press conference at the Johor police headquarters here on Saturday (Aug 3). He said the first police report was lodged by the suspect's wife on July 22, in which she claimed she was physically abused by the suspect, who also took their only child away. Police subsequently opened an investigation paper under Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 18 of the Domestic Violence Act, leading to the suspect's arrest. 'Upon completing investigations, the suspect was released on police bail. 'He then lodged a police report alleging that he had left the child inside a car before the child went missing, so we opened another investigation paper under Section 31(1) of the Child Act for child neglect, and also began a missing persons investigation,' he said. Comm Kumar added that during the suspect's statement recording, there were inconsistencies and suspicious elements. 'Due to the suspicious nature of his statement, we re-arrested the suspect and obtained a remand order in Johor. 'Further probe later revealed the truth, leading to the discovery of the boy's remains in Jempol, Negri Sembilan,' he added. The suspect was then handed over to the Negri Sembilan police for further investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code. Tishant was reported missing in Taman Bukit Indah here on July 24. Four days later, his body was discovered buried in Rompin, Jempol. On July 29, strangulation was identified as the cause of death of the child.

Fatal twist in petrol station robbery attempt

JOHOR BARU: An armed robbery attempt at a petrol station in Iskandar Puteri has taken a deadly turn, with one man dead. The incident unfolded around 12.10am on Thursday, when four masked men, each armed with parang, attempted to ambush a vehicle parked at the petrol station near the Second Link Expressway. Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage of the brazen attack, which has gone viral on social media, showed the men smashing the windows of a parked car. In response, one of the car's passengers fired several gunshots, forcing the attackers to flee. Three suspects ran back to their getaway vehicle, while the fourth escaped on foot. The body of a man, with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen, was found an hour later at Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA). Johor police chief Comm Datuk M. 'CCTV footage showed two men leaving the body at the hospital entrance in a dark-coloured vehicle before driving off,' he said in a statement here on Friday night. Comm Kumar added the deceased was later identified as a 42-year-old Malaysian from Sungai Petani, Kedah, with four prior criminal records. He also said that a post-mortem confirmed he died from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen. When asked if the victim was one of the attackers in the attempted robbery, Comm Kumar said police were still investigating the matter. He added following initial investigations, police arrested three men in Dang Wangi, Kuala Lumpur, around 7pm on the same day. 'The suspects, two Malaysians and one Indian national, aged between 30 and 40, were nabbed by a joint team from the Johor police headquarters and Iskandar Puteri district police,' he said. Comm Kumar added police also made several seizures during the arrest including a component of a Glock 19 pistol, a licensed firearm permit and six rounds of 9mm bullets, bullet casings and a black car believed to have been used in the incident. 'One of the suspects works as a licensed personal bodyguard, and preliminary checks show he has a firearm licence. 'However, police are investigating whether the weapon was used according to legal protocols,' he said, adding that the suspects were being remanded for seven days until July 10 to assist in the investigations. Comm Kumar said the police were investigating the incident under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, Section 148 of the same Act for rioting with weapons and Section 39 of the Arms Act for discharging a firearm outside a licensed shooting range.
