Double amputee ex-Marine Brandon Rumbaugh accused of raping 13-year-old

Motivational speaker and former Marine Brandon Rumbaugh, who lost both of his legs while serving in Afghanistan, has been accused of repeatedly raping a teen at his Pittsburgh-area home. Authorities launched an investigation into Rumbaugh earlier this month, after a 13-year-old girl came forward with the allegations against him. She described Rumbaugh as a family friend during interviews with law enforcement, telling them she'd known him since she was 10 years old, according to a criminal complaint obtained by WPXI. She added that they started communicating by phone not long after, when she was 11 or 12. The teen also recalled three separate occasions when she spent the night at Rumbaugh's home in in Pleasant Hills. On the first night, nothing happened, she said, but she alleged Rumbaugh raped her the next two times, twice each night. According to the criminal complaint, Rumbaugh bought alcoholic iced tea for the teen, which she said she drank before the assault, adding 'she didn't feel like herself' at the time. The former Marine also allegedly told her to keep the encounters 'a secret until she was eighteen years old,' according to the court documents. In 2009, Rumbaugh lost both legs after he stepped on an IED in Afghanistan while helping another Marine to safety. He's been heralded as a war hero and recognized by the U.S. Marines with a Commendation Medal for valor. He is also the CEO of ACT — which stands for Action Conquers Terror — Motivational Speaking, a company through which he shares his story with the likes of sports teams, Fortune 500 companies, and students. Rumbaugh is facing multiple charges, including rape, sexual assault, indecent assault and aggravated indecent assault. He remained in jail on Friday without bond.

GE2025: Paul Tambyah challenges Liang Eng Hwa again at Bukit Panjang SMC

SINGAPORE: Perhaps the second time Paul Tambyah faces off against incumbent Liang Eng Hwa at Bukit Panjang Single Member Constituency will be luckier than the first, as no doubt his supporters wish. Dr Tambyah, who has chaired the Singapore Democratic Party since 2017, first mounted a challenge against Mr Liang in 2020, when he secured a very respectable 46.27% of the vote. He has been hard at work on the ground since then, meeting with residents to hear out their concerns. Accompanied by supporters on Nomination Day (April 23), he confirmed his candidacy for the May 3 polls. The showdown at Bukit Panjang is expected to be a closely contested one. Mr Liang, 61, had been an MP for Holland–Bukit Timah GRC for 14 years until he was fielded by the PAP at Bukit Panjang in 2020. Some concerns have been raised about his health, as he had been diagnosed with early-stage nose cancer in 2023. In a CNA interview earlier this month, he said that Dr Tambyah had been a 'formidable opponent' in 2020, and added that he expected the contest to be tight should they face off again. 'The outcome could go either way,' he was quoted as saying. Dr Tambyah, who is a well-respected and internationally known infectious disease specialist with the National University Hospital, turned 60 in February. He was first fielded by the SDP in 2015, along with SDP chief Chee Soon Juan, at Holland–Bukit Timah. They lost to the PAP slate led by Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan. As the first Singaporean to be President of the International Society of Infectious Diseases as well as a recipient of the Commendation Medal and the COVID-19 Resilience Medal of the National Awards awarded by the Prime Minister's Office, Dr Tambyah has enjoyed a good amount of popularity and respect. His latest bid has drawn much support online, with some commenters even saying that they would love to see him in Parliament to address health and other issues. The SDP released a video earlier this week where Dr Tambyah shared insights regarding choosing a candidate on Voting Day and introduced the different SDP candidates. @singaporedemocraticparty The SDP MP. I hope he is given the chance to give alternative policies and perspectives in Parliament. A culture of differences will strengthen our democracy.' 'Vote Paul into Parliament,' another agreed. /TISG Read also: GE2025: SDP Dr Paul Tambyah's five priorities for Singapore revealed at Pang Sua AMA

Navy fires commander of Colorado-based Information Operations Command

Navy Cmdr. Christopher Johnson was relieved on Thursday as commanding officer of Navy Information Operations Command (NIOC) Colorado, the service has announced. Officially, Johnson was fired 'due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command,' a Navy news release says. No specific information about why he was relieved has been publicly released. 'The Navy maintains the highest standards for commanding officers and holds them accountable when those standards are not met,' the news release says. All of the military branches use the euphemism 'loss of confidence' to avoid providing the exact reasons why commanding officers and senior enlisted leaders. The vague phrase covers all sorts of reasons, including problems at work and personal issues. Johnson, who assumed command at NIOC Colorado in May 2023, has been temporarily reassigned to U.S. Fleet Cyber Command. He was commissioned through Officer Candidate School and later completed two deployments in support of U.S. military operations in Afghanistan, according to his Navy biography. His military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various campaign, unit and service awards. U.S. Marine killed in Philippines plane crash identified as California native

Feb. 10 (UPI) -- A U.S. Marine from California has been identified as one of four people killed last week in an airplane crash in southern Philippines. The U.S. Defense-contracted plane was providing the Philippines with intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance support when it crashed in the province of Maguindanao del Sur on Thursday, killing three U.S. contractors and one Marine on board. There were no survivors. On Sunday, Camp Pendleton identified the Marine as Sgt. Jacob M. Durham, a trained electronic intelligence/electromagnetic warfare analyst. "We mourn the loss of Sgt. Jacob Durham, who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country," Lt. Col. Mabel B. Annunziata, commanding officer of 1st Radio Battalion, which Durham had been assigned to, said in a statement. "Sgt. Durham embodied the highest traditions of the Marine Corps -- exemplifying composure, intelligence and selfless leadership. He was deeply respected and love by his fellow Marines." U.S. Indo-Pacific Command said the plane crash occurred last week amid a routine mission in support of U.S.-Philippine security cooperation activities and at the request of the Philippines. The cause of the crash is under investigation. Durham, a native of California, joined the Marine Corps in January 2021 and was promoted to sergeant on Feb. 1, just days before the crash. During his military career, Durham was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, a Meritorious Mast and Naval Aircrew Insignia. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and his fellow Marines during this profoundly difficult time," Annunziata said.
