Hampden County Sheriff's Office celebrates graduates of re-entry program
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Hampden County Sheriff's Office continues to work on its re-entry programs for those who have been released after a period of time in prison. The Sheriff's Office partnered with Emerge Careers to help those transitioning out of the house of corrections and into the community with a lifelong career. Individuals in the program are working towards obtaining their Commercial Driver's License (CDL) to become truck drivers. Driver crashes into JFK Memorial in Holyoke, police seek charges They said during their partnership, hundreds have applied for the program, 28 have received their permits, and six have earned their full license. On Monday, the Sheriff's Department celebrated two graduates. One of them, Idelberto Soto, said he is proud of himself, but said he couldn't have done it alone. 'They really help you, but you've got to be committed to get done your part too,' Soto said. 'They're really good people. They're always taking care of you, they're always motivating you to get your steps done. They're always there no matter what.' Sheriff Nick Cocchi and other speakers highlighted the importance of truck drivers for every community across the country, saying the individuals part of the program are not only working towards a job, but a career. They now have the opportunity for a second chance, making an impact in their community. WV Division of Motor Vehicles improves CDL medical certification process
CHARLESTON, WV (WVNS) — The West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced that residents holding a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) in West Virginia will not be required to submit a Medical Examiner's Certificate to the DMV. According to a press release, the medical provider that performs the evaluation will enter the information into a secure database, which will then be sent to the DMV. Through the process, providers have until the end of business on the day after the exam to put the information in the database. The process is set to begin on June 23, 2025. Fayette County veteran honored with bridge dedication Because of this, CDL holders will not need to provide a paper copy of their examination to the DMV. While it can still be gotten from the provider, it will not be necessary to submit the certificate to the DMV. The purpose of the change is to assist drivers in updating their medical records faster and more accurately, which reduces the risk of issues that arise from an outdated medical card. The DMV urges all CDL holders to keep current with their medical certifications to make sure their services are not interrupted. Sowela shatters its summer enrollment record
(Special to the American Press) Special to the American Press Sowela Technical Community College's enrollment reached record-breaking numbers during the 2025 summer term, which started this week, with a 28.45 percent year-over-year increase. The college's Aviation Maintenance program saw the highest growth in registrations at 200 percent, followed by Business Administration at 74.71 percent and Culinary Arts at 63.16 percent. 'The continued enrollment growth further substantiates the critical and key role the institution plays in workforce development,' said Chancellor Neil Aspinwall. 'Sowela is a key player in supplying a highly skilled and qualified workforce for the business and industry in the Southwest Louisiana region. Although originally established as a trade school 87 years ago, Sowela has grown into a comprehensive community college whose mission is not only workforce development but also transfer, which aids in enrollment growth.' Aspinwall said since the college is accredited by SACSCOC, students who have earned their two-year degree or numerous course credits can transfer that degree or those course credits to a four-year college and subsequently earn their bachelor's degree. Sowela consistently has more than 500 students each year who utilize the transfer option and continue onto a four-year college or university, he said. He also attributes the enrollment increase to a student-first focus, strong student support services and no increase in tuition or fees for the past nine years. Sowela summer enrollment will continue to grow as individuals register for short-term workforce training, such as Commercial Driver's License, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant and Certified Nurse Assistant training. The College is also experiencing growth in the number of summer credit hours taken, with a 26 percent increase from this same time last year. Haysville schools seeks bus drivers, sets job fair

(KSNW) — Facing a need for more school bus drivers, Haysville Public Schools is hosting a two-day recruitment event this week to help fill key transportation roles for the upcoming school year. The event, titled 'Be the Next Driver,' will be held in the east parking lot of Campus High School, 2100 W. 55th Street S., on Wednesday, May 28, from 8 a.m. to noon and Thursday, May 29, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. City delays opening pools, splash pads again Attendees will be able to fill out applications on-site, speak directly with transportation supervisors, and get behind the wheel of a school bus under supervision.
