Fourth annual Sweet Corn Day brings neighbors together in Savanna

Sweet Corn Appreciation Day is set to return for its fourth year, promising "a-maize-ing" fun for all ages. State Rep. Tony McCombie is scheduled to host the event on Aug. 1 at 9317 Illinois Route 84 in Savanna from 4 to 7 p.m., according to a community announcement. McCombie passed legislation in 2022 to make Aug. 1 the official Sweet Corn Appreciation Day in Illinois. 'Sweet Corn Day is a celebration of community, connection and the simple joy of sharing good food with the people we care about,' McCombie said in the announcement. The event is expected to feature bounce houses, face painting and plenty of sweet corn. 'Sweet corn holds a special place in our hearts and on our tables, and reaching the fourth annual Sweet Corn Day is a meaningful milestone,' McCombie said in the announcement.
