$5K Up for Grabs: NNYCF encourages participation in Scholarship Programs

NORTH COUNTRY, N.Y. (WWTI) – The Northern New York Community Foundation has announced a new challenge to inspire greater participation in its scholarship program from the Class of 2025 and give schools a chance to win a share of up to $5,000 in grant support. The scholarship challenge is open to all schools in Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties. The Community Foundation's scholarship program supports graduating seniors pursuing further education — whether at an accredited college, university, technical, or trade school. Apply Now: NNYCF Offers Scholarships for Fall 2025 'With an increasing number and variety of opportunities available to support students, we hope this incentive will help build the widest pool of applicants across our region,' said Rande S. Richardson, Community Foundation executive director. 'If this challenge is successful, it will be a win for all as students will benefit directly, their schools may receive additional funding, and our donors will have the best opportunity provide help in the most meaningful ways.' There are two ways schools have a chance to win grant support: $1,000 grant to a school in each of the three counties it serves. To be eligible, schools must achieve at least 25% participation from their senior class in submitting scholarship applications by Friday, Feb. 21, 2025. The top nine schools — three from each county — with the highest overall participation rates by Saturday, March 15, application deadline, will be eligible to win a $2,000 grant. Calling Theresa Nonprofits: Apply for $3K in funding NNYCF says schools selected for grant awards will be chosen at random. Awards may be used to support a schoolwide initiative or project chosen by the senior class officers. Throughout the challenge, NNYCF will report progress at the end of each week on its Facebook and Instagram channels. Tri-county seniors should apply for scholarship support by completing the online common application found HERE by Saturday, March 15. Community Spirit Youth Giving Challenge Awards $10,000 for 10 NNY nonprofits Last year, 19% of all high school seniors in Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties applied for NNYCF scholarship support: 26% in Jefferson County; 22% in Lewis County; and 10% of St. Lawrence County seniors completed a scholarship application.
