Hardywood, Beet Box and more will open at the Richmond airport this year

By the end of the year, folks flying out of Richmond airport should have four new places to eat or grab a drink. Why it matters: Hardywood Park Craft Brewery and The Beet Box juice bar, two local brands, will be some of the new options. The big picture: The Capital Region Airport Commission, the group that owns and operates Richmond International Airport, last week signed off on two new full-service restaurants and bars, plus two new coffee and cafe kiosks, for the airport. The newcomers were selected from the commission's request for new concession proposals last year, according to BizSense, which first reported the news. Three will land in Concourse A (the one on the right / if you're flying American or JetBlue), while Concourse B (if you're flying Delta, Southwest or United) will get the fourth. Faber, Coe & Gregg, a New Jersey-based airport concession vendor, will operate the restaurants and Richmond's own Beet Box will run the two kiosks. Zoom in: The Hardywood Park Craft Brewery (airport edition!) will go near gates A-15 and A-16 (in place of open seating) and include a full-service restaurant and bar, plus grab-and-go options, per the resolution adopted at last week's meeting. The Beet Box's two concepts (one called The Beet Box and the other Homegrown) will go near gates A-8 and A-11. Concourse B travelers won't be left behind though. A Wolfgang Puck Bar & Bites will taxi in near gates B-14 and B-15. All four should be open by the end of the year, airport spokesperson Troy Bell tells Axios.

BHMI Enhances the Concourse Financial Software Suite® to Support the Illinois Interchange Fee Prohibition Act (IFPA)

OMAHA, Neb.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- BHMI, a leading provider of back-office payment solutions, today announced that its Concourse Financial Software Suite has been updated to support compliance with the Illinois Interchange Fee Prohibition Act (IFPA). The IFPA, enacted in June 2024 and set to take effect on July 1, 2025, prohibits payment card networks, issuers, acquirer banks, and processors from assessing or receiving interchange fees on portions of electronic payment transactions that represent state or local taxes and gratuities. Under the new law, merchants must communicate tax and gratuity amounts either at the time of authorization or settlement, or through a post-transaction rebate process, which allows up to 180 days for submission of the relevant data. In support of the IFPA, Concourse's configurable rules engine identifies the applicable portions of a transaction so that Concourse clients can configure their fee and settlement rules to incorporate the new law's requirements to exclude the application of interchange fees when not allowed. 'This is a great example of why Concourse is recognized as one of the most flexible back-office payment solutions on the market,' said Lynne Baldwin, President of BHMI. 'Thanks to our powerful, configurable rules engine, Concourse is purpose-built to adapt quickly to new regulatory mandates and evolving industry requirements.' About BHMI BHMI is a respected provider of software solutions for managing the back-office processing of electronic payment transactions. The company's flagship product, the Concourse Financial Software Suite, offers a dynamic and flexible solution for processing a wide range of payment types, including debit cards, credit cards, mobile payments, P2P, real-time payments, ATMs, and POS. Concourse provides essential back-office functions such as automated reconciliation, fee assessment, settlement and dispute management. New online platform brings LHS students $31.1M in scholarship offers

Feb. 28—MIDLAND — Match powered by Concourse is the online platform where universities apply for students, flipping the script on admissions. In the case of Legacy High School seniors, that equals $31.1 million total scholarships offers, 419 total college admission offers and an average of $277,000 in scholarship offers per student who used the platform this year. "This platform has been a game changer," Vanessa Wimberley, Legacy High School Coordinator for College, Career, and Military Readiness, said in a news release. "Not only is the application free, it provides quick feedback to the student with admissions and scholarship offers." She laughingly shares that, "students compare it to a dating app for college. Just enter your ideal college match and give a thumbs-up if you are interested!" The reality is that outside of Apply Texas and the Common Application, most students are creating applications with each university where they wish to apply. There is usually a fee associated with applications, and fee waivers are not always easy to come by. The time-consuming and daunting process can be overwhelming and cost prohibitive. Match is free to the student and the school district. Factors such as desired location, personal interests, and cost of living are taken into consideration when matching the university with the student. Some of the highest scholarship offers to date have gone to students within the average GPA range. It takes approximately 15-20 minutes for the student to complete a profile and offers of scholarships and admission are up front. The student has an option to get more information, decline the offer or accept the offer. The student is only notified when universities offer admission or scholarship information. Students do not receive notifications of rejection, which builds confidence. "This opens the world of possibilities for students," says Mrs. Wimberley. "Students can go from wondering if they can go to college to thinking of possibilities they did not know existed. This program can help make sure that every student — no matter where they come from or how much money their family has — has a chance to go to college and get the support they need to succeed." In order for students to create a profile, they must enter a code from their school counselor. At Legacy High School, Mrs. Wimberley can provide the code to any current junior or senior. Now that LHS has piloted the program, MISD is working to expand the program to Coleman High School and Midland High School.
