Double standards of Centre and State govt. exposed one more time, alleges KTR

HYDERABAD Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao has ridiculed the double standards of the NDA government and the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA), stating that they are not acting on the sinking of the coffer dam of the Polavaram project for the second time. In a statement, Mr. Rao said on Saturday that the NDSA had not taken up investigation into the washing away of the Polavaram cofferdam in 2020 that happened for the first time, even after being asked to go into the matter. The NDA government gave national project status to Polavaram and funded its construction - but is not looking into the quality aspects of construction, he said. During the run-up to the last Assembly elections in Telangana, a few piers of the Medigadda Barrage of Kaleshwaram project sank and damaged the structure under suspicious circumstances, but neither the BJP leaders nor those of the Congress, who had been indulging in mudslinging on Kaleshwaram project continuously, and terming it as 'kuleshwaram' (a collapsed project) repeatedly - had raised an issue on Polavaram, Mr. Rao said. He sought to know if the BJP and the Congress have the guts to term Polavaram as 'kulavaram' since its coffer dam was washed away once and sunk for the second time. In the second instance, it sunk for 10 meters width and about 8 meters deep, and the Andhra Pradesh government had taken up repairs on a war-footing silently, he said. On the other hand, the 'foolishness' of the Congress government is preventing it from taking up repairs on Medigadda Barrage and in giving water to the large ayacut depending on waters lifted from the point, even 20 months after coming to power, he said. Further, the NDSA proved its double standards by not taking up investigation into the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel collapse in February that buried eight workers, technicians and engineers alive. It is also indicative of the Congress-BJP conspiracy against Kaleshwaram, he alleged.

CPI(M) directs rank and file to defend Veena George

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] on Sunday reportedly issued a strict directive to its rank-and-file to defend Health Minister Veena George after some party members made critical comments on social media about the Minister's 'style of functioning.' The Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) sought to weaponise those comments against Ms. George, who is at the centre of a political storm following a building collapse at the Kottayam Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH) last Thursday killed a caregiver and injured two others. Public rally in Kottayam On Sunday, the CPI(M) Pathanamthitta district secretariat reportedly instructed the relevant lower committees to take action against party members responsible for the social media posts. Moreover, it has also announced a mammoth public rally in Kottayam on July 10 to expose what the CPI(M) has termed a Congress-BJP plot to vilify Kerala's robust and nationally acclaimed public health sector. Later, the party will hold similar meetings at the panchayat level. Last Friday, CPI(M) State secretary M.V. Govindan accused both parties of politicising the tragic building collapse to paint a dismal picture of State-funded hospitals, thereby aiding private hospitals coral patients. He noted that corporates, with scant regard for medical ethics or patient welfare, had acquired most of the legacy hospitals in the private sector in Kerala. He said the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government had invested nearly ₹1,600 crore in State-funded hospitals, including addition of beds, operating theatres, modern diagnostic tools, and super-specialty units, such as liver and kidney transplant departments, to protect the working class from predatory medical practices. He said the patient numbers in government hospitals had increased by 50% since 2021, depriving the private sector of business. Protests continue Meanwhile, the tide of protests against Ms. George showed little signs of abating. In Pathanamthitta, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) general secretary Pazhakulam Madhu said party activists would boycott the Minister at public functions. Meanwhile, the CPI(M) pushed back against the Congress-BJP 'plot to target' Ms. George. The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) said it would take to the streets to protect Ms. George. Cooperation Minister V.N. Vasavan said the CPI(M) could, if the push comes to the shove, organise boycotts against Opposition leaders.

Before Arvind Kejriwal's ‘hidden romance' jibe, Punjab Congress called AAP BJP's ‘B Team'

Jalandhar: While Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal recently alleged a secretive understanding between the Congress and the BJP in Gujarat — calling it a "hidden romance"—the Congress in Punjab has been bracketing AAP with RSS-BJP for over two years or accusing the Punjab chief minister of following the Centre's line on different issues. Even as the parties held a seat-sharing arrangement in Delhi, Haryana, and Gujarat, Punjab Congress leaders usually called AAP the 'B team' of RSS-BJP. They sharpened the attacks before the Lok Sabha elections. Amid these allegations, they strongly opposed an alliance between the two parties in Punjab during the parliamentary polls, arguing that Congress could not cede opposition space to Shiromani Akali Dal or BJP. Kejriwal, during a gathering of AAP leaders and workers in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, asserted that his party had no alliance with Congress, and that the INDIA bloc was confined to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He likened the Congress-BJP dynamic to lovers meeting in secret, saying, "They meet secretly because society won't accept their marriage. Be cautious of them—they are very dangerous." BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh on Friday slammed Kejriwal over his "hidden romance" jibe at the BJP, saying, "The entire country knows it was you, Kejriwal, who struck an 'unholy alliance' with Congress back in 2013 to form the Delhi govt. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Global Indices Are on the Move — Time to Trade! IC Markets Learn More Undo In Punjab, it's now an open secret — AAP and Congress have made a secret pact to rule alternately and loot Punjab every five years." Punjab Congress leaders started levelling the allegation of collusion between AAP and RSS-BJP, or calling the former the 'B team' of the latter or 'two sides of the same coin', just after the Bhagwant Mann govt completed a year. Leader of opposition Partap Singh Bajwa, Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Waring, Sukhpal Singh Khaira, and Pargat Singh started the attacks on these lines, and then a few other party leaders followed suit. Punjab Congress made it a point to accuse the Punjab govt of following the central govt's line over its handling of the farm protest, and its removal from the Shambhu border. On a few other issues, they levelled similar allegations. Recently, Waring, while addressing a rally at Hoshiarpur, alleged that the AAP govt in Punjab was hand in glove with the Centre. At the same time, Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar has been alleging that a few leaders of Punjab Congress had surrendered before the AAP govt to escape action by anti-corruption agencies. "Leave India": Pawan Kalyan Takes On Congress Over Pak, Indus Comments

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has attacked the Congress over the comments of a section of its leaders on Pakistan. The comments and the Congress-BJP row that followed have been a sidebar to the massive terror attack in Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22 and the Indian response in its aftermath. "Some leaders are declaring love for Pakistan on television. You cannot live in India and love Pakistan. If you love Pakistan so much, leave India," the actor-politician said today. "When India is under attack, you cannot stand in support of Pakistan," he added. A handful of Congress leaders, including Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Saifuddin Soz, have landed in controversy after comments that were regarded as pro-Pakistan. "If Pakistan says it is not involved, let us accept that argument for now and rely on our investigating agencies, who will know better. India and Pakistan are two neighbours; the neighbourhood cannot be changed, whatever you do. Ultimately, what will prevail between India and Pakistan is dialogue," Mr Soz had told news agency ANI. He also said India should not go as far as to put the Indus Waters Treaty on hold, adding to the row over comments from Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and others. Yesterday, questioning the security arrangements in Jammu and Kashmir, Mr Siddaramaiah had said, "There is no necessity to wage a war against Pakistan. Strict security measures must be initiated. We are not in favour of waging war". As a huge political row started, he had issued a clarification. The Congress has distanced itself from their remarks saying it stands with the government as it had emphasized in the all-party meet to discuss measures against Pakistan after the Pahalgam massacre. Last week, following the massacre of 26 people -- all tourists except one -- India had indefinitely suspended the Indus water treaty. It had also taken a host of other non-military measures including shutting the Attari border and revoking visas of Pakistan nationals in India. With 85 per cent of Pakistan's agricultural economy completely dependent on the Indus river system, Pakistan has called the suspension an "act of war". Islamabad has threatened to suspend all agreements between the two countries, including the Simla pact of 1972, which validates the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
