Connecticut pokes the bear with new pizza billboards trolling New York

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Starting Monday, Connecticut has taken its efforts to claim the title of 'Pizza Capital of the U.S.' to new heights. Roughly five billboards and six subway live boards now span New York City, trolling the city by reading messages like 'Hey New York pizza, there's no shame in 2nd place' and 'The nation's best pizza. Not you New York.' Modern Apizza takes 'Connecticut Pizza Trail' crown The messages even appear in high-traffic areas like Times Square and Mott Street. It's part of a campaign launched by the Connecticut Office of Statewide Marketing & Tourism. The billboards also invite people to call 1-844-CTPIZZA or visit to weigh in on what state's pizza reigns. 'As a former long-time New York City resident, I'll admit their pizza is good,' Anthony Anthony, the chief marketing officer for the State of Connecticut said. 'But it isn't the nation's best. That title belongs to us.' He said this is the kind of playful rivalry that brings people together around a bigger table and puts Connecticut's pizza culture front and center.
