That is according to a report which claims a deal for the Leicester City defender is still on the cards despite transfer talk cooling down in recent weeks. Russell Martin made the former England international one of his top targets following his appointment but so far a deal has not been agreed. The move looked in jeopardy when new Foxes head coach Marti Cifuentes included Coady in his squad for a pre-season camp in Austria with the 32-year-old featuring in friendlies against FC Koln and Zalaegerszegi. However, the Daily Record report that the move could still happen with Cifuentes now preparing to sanction the player's departure after initially insisting on pausing any outgoing transfer activity until he had assessed and spoken to his entire squad. Coady is claimed to still prefer a move to Govan although Wrexham have emerged as rival suitors. Celtic medical booked Celtic are set to beat a number of European clubs to the signing of Manchester City defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey. The 19-year-old centre-back is due to travel to Glasgow on Friday for a medical before putting pen to paper on a season-long loan deal. Simpson-Pusey stepped into the City defence last season due to injury problems, making six first-team appearances including two in the Champions League - and earned praise from head coach Pep Guardiola. The England youth international was also named EPL 2 Player of the Year after captaining the Man City reserves to the title. Celtic are also showing interest in Sweden defender Viktor Eriksson, according to a report. The 33-year-old is a free agent after leaving Birmingham City earlier this summer and has held negotiations with Hibs, who are keen to reinforce their defensive options for the upcoming season. Capped 62 times by Scotland, Hanley would add experience to head coach David Gray's backline. He has been an integral part of Steve Clarke's Scotland set-up despite finding game-time limited in recent seasons at both Norwich City and Birmingham City. Born in Dumfries, Hanley has never played club football north of the border. He started his senior career at Blackburn Rovers in 2010 before moving to Newcastle United six years later. He switched to Norwich a year later and stayed until last January, becoming club captain and guiding the Canaries to promotion to the English Premier League. He was part of the Birmingham squad that won the League One title last term but made only three league starts. He was in attendance at Easter Road on Thursday night for the Europa League tie against FC Midtjylland. St Mirren signing arrives early Malik Dijksteel revealed Stephen Robinson told him what he wanted to hear as he made his move to St Mirren from Cork City ahead of schedule. The Dutch winger had recently signed a pre-contract agreement to join Saints in January following the expiry of his contract at the League of Ireland club. However, the Buddies moved to recruit Dijksteel to Paisley early on a contract until the summer of 2028 for an undisclosed fee. The 24-year-old, who came through the academy at Feyenoord and whose move is subject to international clearance, told 'I'm delighted. It's good that I can join now and have a full season here. It allows me to get to know the manager and get to know how he works. The manager said he wants me to be me and be the player that I am. He wants me to beat players, excite the fans and work hard. That's what you want to hear as a winger. I got to do my first session today. It's a good squad and everyone is very welcoming. The quality in the group is very good as well. I've watched some of the games on TV. You don't know until you're in it yourself, but it looks like a good level and I'm looking forward to it.' Conor Coady to Rangers transfer delay cleared up as preferred destination revealed amid Wrexham interest
Russell Martin wants the experienced defender as part of his major overhaul as he continues his new era rebuild at Ibrox Rangers are still in the driving seat to land Conor Coady - if they press ahead with the transfer. Gers have been locked in talks with Leicester City over a move for the former England international. But Record Sport understands Foxes boss Marti Cifuentes has been refusing to sanction an exit for the 32-year-old. Coady, 32, is understood to be keen on a switch to Ibrox after being identified by Russell Martin and sporting director Kevin Thelwell as a possible marquee signing. Ambitious Wrexham - owned by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney - have now joined the race as they target Premier League promotion. However, speaking on Hotline Live, our man Keith Jackson revealed that Govan remains Coady's preferred destination if a deal can be agreed. Jackson said: "The information I have received this afternoon has been interesting on this one. "I felt the whole thing felt it was cooling down, but apparently not. "Conor Coady's camp are still really hopeful that this one will get across the line. "Apparently the reason for the delay - and I did say that it felt Leicester pressed pause on it - what I am hearing is that the new manager Marti Cifuentes is the guy who put a personal block on it. "He was only appointed and unveiled 24 hours or less before Leicester went away to their Austrian summer HQ for pre-season camp and I believe Cifuentes was the guy who said 'nothing gets done until I get away and assess my squad and speak to some of the individuals involved'. "I think that is why everything kind of just stopped for a while with the potential Conor Coady to Rangers deal. "What I am hearing now is Cifuentes is more amenable to it. I think there is a realisation that it suits all parties and particularly Conor Coady. "However, there is an extra spanner in the works there as over that period Wrexham have made a bit of a push and I think they think they are at the table as well. "The information I am getting still suggests Rangers would be in the box seat if they want to press ahead with the sort of deal that was being discussed with Conor Coady a few weeks ago. "I think that is still the one Conor Coady wants. It remains to be seen if it is still the deal Rangers want. I would be very surprised if it is not."

Conor Coady to Rangers transfer snag 'revealed' with rival club willing to meet Leicester asking price
The Foxes defender has just 12 months remaining on his contract at the King Power Stadium Rangers have learned that a fee of £2million will be required to sign Conor Coady. The England international has been a key target for Russell Martin all summer, with the 32-year-old identified as someone who could bring some added experience to the Gers young squad. Coady has just 12 months left on his current deal with the Foxes but has featured heavily in their pre-season schedule, with new Leicester manager Marti Cifuentes hinting that he does see the centre back as part of his plans in the coming campaign. But the Light Blues aren't the only team keen on the former Wolves captain, with ambitious Championship side Wrexham also in the race. And talkSPORT claim that the Welsh side - who have achieved back-to-back promotions to England's second tier under the ownership of Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney - are willing to fork out the seven-figure sum to bring the veteran to the Racecourse Ground. The report adds that Rangers were close to sealing a deal for Coady earlier in this summer but were ultimately put off by the £2million asking price. Wrexham have already broke their transfer record twice in the summer window with the captures of Empoli's Liberarto Cacace for around £4million and Lewis O'Brien from Nottingham Forest for £5million. The Red Dragons are set to smash it again with a £7.5million deal for Ipswich Town's Nathan Broadhead edging ever closer. Meanwhile, departed defender Robin Propper admits his return to FC Twente this summer was far from a smooth process. After weeks of negotiation between the two clubs, the Dutchman until he was finally able to put pen to paper on a four-year contract with Twente last week after just one season at Ibrox. Propper, 31, insists he enjoyed his time with Rangers but concedes his exit did drag on a bit. He said: "I'm really happy with how everything went. I went there with my family and experienced what it's like to play in a major foreign league. "It's a club with a lot of history and a loyal fan base. I witnessed that first-hand. "The media got wind of it (his Rangers exit) pretty early on, but it wasn't as easy as it seemed "Luckily, we were able to smooth things over and I was able to return."

Conor Coady message to Rangers insider amid Wrexham interest as initial Ibrox transfer offer surfaces
The defender has been a long-term target at Ibrox so far this summer but is still on the books at Leicester In-demand Conor Coady is still keeping tabs on Rangers amid reported interest from Wrexham. The Leicester City defender has been a target at Ibrox all summer - with both the Scottish Premiership giants and Coady had been keen to make a deal happen. The England cap had been keen to link up with Russell Martin in time for the double-header against Panathinaikos - but he remains with the Foxes as new boss Marti Cifuentes has been unable to find a replacement. The 32-year-old has remained as captain going into the new season but is now attracting interest from cash-rich Wrexham after entering the final year of his contract. The Red Dragons - owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney - reportedly want to bring in the England international as part of their ambitious plan to reach the English top-flight by 2027. But amid the interest, Coady signalled he is still keeping tabs on the Light Blue after they progressed through the Champions League qualification rounds with a draw in Athens enough to secure an aggregate victory as he sent a message to Jack Butland Goalkeeper Butland took to Instagram to acknowledge the Rangers support by posting 'on to the next" with a bear and union jack emoji and images from the 1-1 draw at the Olympic Stadium - which was liked by Coady. It comes after details of Rangers' initial approach for the 32-year-old have emerged, with the Leicester Mercury stating a loan offer was put on the table. It is said Leicester rejected the offer as they are looking to offload players and boost their transfer budget - with free agent Asmir Begovic the only new face in the door so far this summer for the cash-strapped club. With Coady set to leave at the end of the campaign as a free agent, any bid for the centre-back will be seriously considered by City this summer. Boss Cifuentes conceded last week that players had to be sold in this window following Premier League relegation. The Spaniard said: 'It's very clear we have a lot of players in the squad. Definitely there is a lot of quality, but at the same time we need to understand that we need to trim this squad. 'At the moment we have 32 players which is quite a lot. It's not what I want. Everybody is aware is that the market, there's a lot of weeks until it's closed. A lot of things can happen."
