Wexford Macra shines in Blue Jean Country Queen Festival
The festival, organised by Meath Macra each June, is a highly anticipated event in the Macra Calendar. Amber James, from the Camolin branch, joined 20 other remarkable women from across Ireland, each representing their clubs in a bid to be crowned the first Queen of the Castle. The festival began on Friday, May 30 with the Queens taking a trip to Causey Farm where they took part in a team building exercise that saw them bake bread, dance, and spend time with the farm animals. This was followed by the festival's official opening in the Darnley Lodge Hotel and The Nana Moon's Pub Crawl that brought the Queens on a tour of the town. The real hard work began Saturday with private interviews with judges former Mr Personality winner John Martin Carroll, 1997 Meath Blue Jean Country Queen Aileen Harte McMurtry, and Linda Croston of Croston Flood Recruiting, Consulting, and Events, New York. Amber and all the other queen candidates then spent their day at the Le Chéile Credit Union BBQ and Fun day before heading to Floods Bar to sing karaoke. That evening they had the McNamara Feeds Queens' Interviews hosted by iRadio's Conor Woods in front of a crowded St. James' Hall before partying the night away with The Fógues in the Darnley Lodge Hotel. On the Sunday morning, the Queens gathered at the Darnley Lodge Hotel to prepare for a game of Heroes vs Villains themed Fancy Dress Football. The match served as the opening event to an afternoon long family fun at the Meath Farm Machinery Ltd Lark in the Park fun day that included live music, children's races, a petting zoo, puppets shows and the Toy Tractor Run. After that it was off to the Houlihan Engineering Gala Banquet in Athboy Convent Community Centre and once the winners were announced the Queens celebrated to Simon Casey, followed by DJ Conor Woods in The Darnley Lodge Hotel. Although Amber missed out on the title, PRO Sinead Kinsella said that they were incredibly proud of her efforts. "Amber's performance in the festival, from her interview to her participation in all activities, was nothing short of fantastic and we in Wexford Macra are so proud of her. Amber was supported by her fellow Wexford Macra members who travelled to the event over the course of the weekend.' "We would like to congratulate all participating Queens, and in particular to Amy Coffey of Cappoquin Macra who was crowned as winner on the night. We would also like to extend congratulations to the organising committee for their exceptional work in running such a successful event,' she added.
