Watch: Car overturns in horrific UAE crash after driver uses phone, Abu Dhabi Police issue warning
Abu Dhabi Police, in partnership with the Control and Follow-up Center, have launched a hard-hitting road safety campaign as part of Gulf Traffic Week.
With the theme 'Driving Without a Phone,' the initiative urges motorists to stay off their phones while driving and highlights the serious risks of distracted driving.
To drive the message home, police released a video featuring real-life footage of accidents in Abu Dhabi—each caused by drivers using mobile phones behind the wheel. The dramatic clips show how a moment of distraction can have life-threatening consequences.
The video shows three serious incidents:
Incident 1: A distracted driver in a speeding car slams into another vehicle in the third lane. The impact sends the car crashing into a safety barrier, flipping multiple times after hitting a railing, before landing upside down.
Incident 2: A motorist, distracted while speeding down the fast lane, crashes into slow-moving traffic. The chain reaction leads to collisions with several vehicles, including a pick-up truck, before veering into another lane.
Incident 3: A driver, not focused on the road, drives over a raised median. The car flips and comes to rest upside down.
Abu Dhabi Police stressed that distracted driving is a major cause of road accidents in the UAE. It is considered a serious traffic violation, punishable by a Dh800 fine and four black points on the driver's license.
