Hong Kong's annual Food Expo, co-events to attract 50 extra vendors this year

Hong Kong's annual Food Expo and four other events have attracted 50 more new exhibitors this year, including vendors from Brazil, Mongolia and Zimbabwe, and will offer products at prices as low as HK$35 (US$4.46) to celebrate its 35th anniversary. The Trade Development Council, the organiser of the events, said on Wednesday that about 1,890 exhibitors were joining the five fairs, an increase of 50 from last year. The Food Expo alone is set to bring in more than 700 vendors. The five fairs will bring together exhibitors from 35 countries and regions, including first-time participants from Brazil, Mongolia and Zimbabwe. The events will also feature 45 regional pavilions, an uptick from last year, showcasing products from Macau, Japan, Thailand, Kenya, Poland and mainland Chinese provinces. All the events will be held at Wan Chai's Convention and Exhibition Centre. The Food Expo, Beauty and Wellness Expo, and Home Delights Expo will run from August 14 to 18, while the Food Expo Pro, a branch of the food event, and the International Tea Fair will start at the same time but finish two days earlier than the rest.

Purr-fect day for Hong Kong pet owners as cat expo opens

Pet owners splurged on their furry friends as a cat expo opened in Hong Kong on Friday, spending thousands of dollars on products ranging from food to DNA tests for hereditary diseases and jewellery items made with feline hair. The three-day Hong Kong Cat Expo, which has been held annually since 2023, features more than 180 exhibitors and 380 booths at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai, with some reporting brisk business. Among them was Hero DNA, which said that in the first five hours of the expo, it sold around 10 to 20 pet DNA tests for HK$1,380 each, with business growing 10 to 15 per cent this year. Its tests check for 49 genetic health risks in cats and 132 in dogs. '[When pets get sick] vets have to guess the disease. But with our DNA test, pet owners can focus on checking for illnesses which their pets have a hereditary risk for,' Hero DNA owner Clement Lai Yat-lung said. 'Any check at the vet will cost a few thousand to ten thousand, but our test is cheaper.'

Hong Kong Ani-Com 2025: heavy rain fails to deter fans on event's last day

Comic book fans braved heavy downpours to attend Hong Kong's annual anime and games festival on its last day, as vendors slashed product prices to clear their inventory. Despite a black rainstorm signal issued on Tuesday morning, some attendees queued for more than 30 minutes before they could get into the Ani-Com & Games Hong Kong at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai. The forecaster raised the black signal, the highest level in the three-tier warning system, at 9.10am before downgrading it to red at 11.05am and then to amber at 11.45am. The warning was eventually lifted at 2.15pm. Dickson Mo, 17-year-old high school graduate, said it was his third time attending the annual festival that started on Friday. 'I got soaked by the rain when walking from my home to Ho Man Tin station. But I knew once I got in the MTR, it would be fine, as the venue was directly connected to the station,' he said. Mo, who joined two friends at the event, said he enjoyed 'the festive atmosphere' of past fairs. He said he did not have a budget or specific vendors in mind but wanted to walk around and see whether there was anything interesting.
