Rapper Touchline talks energy, intention and legacy ahead of Coolest In The City festival performance
As the countdown begins to the Coolest In The City festival in Pietermaritzburg, rapper Touchline is gearing up to deliver his performance.
Asked what fans can expect from his set, Touchline said: 'A lot of energy. A lot of dope raps, the vintage Touchline way.'
Before stepping on stage, Touchline makes sure to tap into something deeper: 'I make sure I take a moment to zone in. I meditate on the set and imagine the kind of feeling I would like to give the fans.' he shares.
For Touchline, the Coolest In The City festival stands out because of its raw, unfiltered spirit: 'The energy. Everybody goes there with an expecting heart. Nobody is acting cool or like they don't care. Everybody wants to have a great time and is committed to creating an amazing experience for themselves.'
His approach to performance is rooted in precision and freedom: 'Tight structure but I leave a little room for improvisation and fun.'
As someone deeply connected to the richness of South Africa's sonic landscape, he reflected on how diversity shapes his craft: 'The diversity of the cultures allows me to tap into different languages and rep various lifestyles.'
He is exploring the Pietermaritzburg scene and making connections: 'I'm learning about the artists from Pietermaritzburg and have collaborating with the guys from SBlack Entertainment.'
