The son of an NFL legend will have a chance to shine at Notre Dame's Irish Invasion event this weekend. Top Fighting Irish target Cooper Witten will be at the program's signature recruiting event along with a bevy of other top prospects who have been on ND's radar. Advertisement The Class of 2027 five-star linebacker from Liberty Christian (Argyle, TX) grew up watching his father, Jason, excel in a likely Hall of Fame career with the Dallas Cowboys and Las Vegas Raiders. After retirement, Witten became the head coach at Liberty Christian, where Cooper and his older brother CJ attend. He led the program to back to back state championships in 2023 and 2024. The 6-foot and 3-inch, 210-pound younger Witten earned an offer from Clemson Wednesday after showcasing his skills at the Dabo Swinney football camp. Witten moves with ease and has run a 10.91-second 100 meters. His elite closing speed and football instincts make him one of the premiere defenders in his class. His offer list includes heavy hitters outside of Notre Dame, including Alabama, Michigan, Texas and his father's alma mater, Tennessee. In his sophomore season, he had 45 tackles, five interceptions (two returned for touchdowns) and seven receiving scores on offense. Alabama extends offer to 2027 5-star linebacker, son of NFL legend One of the nation's top prospects in the 2027 recruiting class, the Alabama Crimson Tide have reportedly extended an offer to highly-touted linebacker Cooper Witten. Witten is the son of former NFL tight end great Jason Witten, who was an 11-time Pro Bowl selection across 17 NFL seasons from 2003-20, 16 of which came with the Dallas Cowboys. According to the 247Sports Composite recruiting rankings, Witten is considered as the nation's No. 18 overall player in the 2027 class, as well as the top linebacker in the cycle. A five-star prospect, the nation's top 2027 linebacker is also ranked as the No. 4 player in the state of Texas where he attends Liberty Christian School. At the moment, Alabama's 2027 recruiting class is currently one of the nation's best, ranking No. 4 nationally with a pair of commitments. Those two commits are a pair of four-star's, edge rushers Jabarrius Garror and wide receiver Alexander Ward. Witten now is the head coach at Liberty Christian, so he gets the special opportunity to coach his son. Witten has helped Liberty Christian win back-to-back state championships. Jason Witten is fourth all-time in career NFL receptions with 1,228. He made 11 Pro Bowls in 17 NFL seasons with the Dallas Cowboys (16) and Las Vegas Raiders (one). However, Cooper Witten is positioned to make a name for himself. One school to watch for Cooper Witten is Tennessee. Jason Witten played college football at Tennessee. Georgia is always a contender to land the best linebacker recruits in the country. The Bulldogs routinely sign multiple top 10 linebacker recruits and are showing no signs of slowing down. The Texas Longhorns and head coach Steve Sarkisian were able to make a run all the way to the Cotton Bowl last season. They were among the four best teams in college football. After putting together a season that ended with a 13-3 record and a 7-1 record in SEC play, the sky is the limit for Texas entering the 2025 campaign. He has rebuilt the culture at Texas and has been recruiting at a very high level, both out of high school and in the transfer portal. This week, Sarkisian made another major offer. He extend an offer to four-star 2027 linebacker Cooper Witten, who happens to be the son of Dallas Cowboys legend and tight endJason Witten.
