CM Stalin criticises Governor Ravi, credits him for uniting TN in Dravidian ideology
DHARMAPURI: Chief Minister M K Stalin on Saturday that Governor R N Ravi was appointed by the BJP government with the sole purpose of defaming the Tamil Nadu government and the DMK, but added that the governor had ironically helped unite the people in their love for the Tamil language and in strengthening Dravidian ideology. CM Stalin made the remarks after inaugurating the online application system for crop loans under the Cooperative Department at Adhiyamankottai. He also participated in a government event near the Combined Court Complex, where he laid the foundation stone for 1,044 projects worth Rs 512.52 crore and inaugurated 1,073 projects worth Rs 362.77 crore. Further, he distributed welfare assistance worth ₹830.06 crore to 70,427 beneficiaries. Speaking at the meeting, the Chief Minister said, 'The BJP government had appointed Governor R N Ravi with the only task of defaming the Tamil Nadu government and the DMK party. He is known to put forth harsh criticism against us, will not give approval for state schemes, will recite non-existent 'Thirukural'. Most of all, he will disrespect our 'Tamil Thai Vazhthu', disrespect our students. Moreover, he would spread panic stating our education, law and order are failing.' He further alleged, 'When compared to BJP-ruled states we have been performing exceptionally well. Irritated and enraged by this, he is whining in public meetings.' Stalin added, 'We need a governor like R N Ravi here. He has been crucial in uniting us in our love for our language, uniting us as a people and instilling the Dravidian ideologies.'

Over 1,300 tribals in Jawadhu Hills to get ration at doorstep under Thayumanavar scheme
More than 1,300 tribals aged above 70 years and persons with disabilities in Jawadhu Hills, covering Vellore, Tiruvannamalai and Tirupattur districts will get rations at doorstep under Thayumanavar scheme that was launched by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday. Officials of the Cooperative Department, which will execute the scheme, said that the scheme aims to deliver ration products at the doorsteps of over 1.41 lakh elderly citizens and persons with disabilities in Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur and Tiruvannamalai districts. 'All essential commodities including rice, dal and oil will be delivered at the doorsteps of the beneficiaries on the second Saturday and Sunday between 9 a.m and 6 p.m of every month. Prior alert will be given to beneficiaries to collect items on these days,' said S. Pratap, Superintendent, Department of Cooperatives (Tiruvannamalai). Cooperative department officials said that field staff have been given a list of beneficiaries especially in hilly areas that comprises remote tribal hamlets to deliver the items to eligible beneficiaries. Field staff have been provided with an electronic weighing machine and e-PoS (point of sale) machine as part of the initiative. 'We have to trek on a sandy pathway surrounded by forest to buy rations at a PDS outlet in the hills. Carrying commodities back home has always remained a herculean task. The new scheme will end our ordeal,' said V. Petchiammal, a tribal. Of the total 1,41,554 beneficiaries under the scheme, 1,337 persons above 70 years of age and persons with disabilities were beneficiaries in hilly areas, mainly Jawadhu Hills, covering Vellore, Tiruvannamalai and Tirupattur districts. Remaining beneficiaries belong to rural and urban areas in these districts. Among them, Tiruvannamalai has the highest number of 596 card holders, followed by Tirupattur (492 cardholders) and Vellore (249 cardholders) in the hills under the scheme. Essential commodities from 43 PDS outlets in the hills will be provided to these beneficiaries every month. At present, each outlet especially in Jawadhu hills is located 3-4 kms away from each other. As per norms, each shop should be set up 1.5 kms between each other. However, officials said that this criteria has been relaxed in hilly areas mainly due to rugged terrain and remoteness of tribal hamlets. On the occasion, Minister for Water Resources Duraimurugan, Minister for Textiles and Handlooms R. Gandhi and Deputy Speaker of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, K. Pitchandi gave essential items to benefariceis in these districts.

Farmers plan large-scale participation in hunger strike on July 10 in Chennai opposing system of crop loans based on CIBIL report
Farmer organisations in Western region are apparently mobilising large-scale participation in the the hunger protest by like-minded entities on July 10 in Chennai opposing the insistence on CIBIL report by the Cooperatives Department for sanction of fresh loans for Kisan Credit Card holders. According to the leaders of the farmers' organisations, 80 per cent of the farmers are unable to secure crop loans and financial assistance for livestock rearing from cooperative societies due to the insistence on CIBIL report. According to Eesan Murugasamy, founder, Tamil Nadu Farmers' Protection Association, the circular issued by the Cooperative Department on May 26 stating that the CIBIL report would be checked for farmers seeking crop loans from cooperative societies had to be withdrawn. Farmers across Tamil Nadu are facing severe difficulty in getting crop loans from cooperative societies, also because of the pre-condition that they must not have availed themselves of loans earlier from nationalised banks. The cost of cultivation being higher in Tamil Nadu when compared to other States, the farmers are left with no option but to get loans from the Cooperative banks as well as nationalised banks to cover the entire expenses. Due to the unfavourable conditions, farmers who had taken loans in the past have not been able to repay the dues in time. The inability to repay education loans and crop loans had inevitably lowered their CIBIL score. The farmers have conveyed to the government that they decided to sustain their protests beyond July 10 if a solution was not found.
