Strike averted at Algeciras port as Marhaba 2025 traffic ramps up
The strike scheduled for July 20 at the Port of Algeciras has been called off after a last-minute agreement was reached between maritime pilot workers and management, with mediation by the Coordinadora TPA union.
The decision follows weeks of tension within the Maritime Pilots' Association and comes just as the strike was set to coincide with the peak of the «Marhaba» operation. According to Spanish media, the agreement includes significant improvements in working conditions, recognition of longstanding professional demands, and a wage review to address the decline in purchasing power in recent years.
Maritime pilots had initially planned to strike from July 20 to August 20, during the height of the crossing operation for Moroccans living abroad returning to the kingdom, a move that risked severely disrupting traffic at one of Spain's busiest ports.
