Maharashtra Board exams: 124 centres under scanner for cheating in Class 12 exams

It has come to notice that at least 124 examination centres in Maharashtra are under suspicion, having been identified with allegations of malpractice during the Higher Secondary Examinations in the months of February and March. The Maharashtra Class 12 was declared on May 5. The Schooling Department, headed by Master Sharad Gosavi, announced that these centres will be placed under close observation. If sufficient cause is established, their right to carry out future examinations will be withdrawn. Of these centres, the highest number - forty and four - are in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division. The remaining are distributed in Pune (25), Nagpur (19), Latur (11), Amravati (10), Nashik (6), Mumbai (5), Kolhapur (3), and one in Konkan. In all, three hundred threescore and seven cases of fraud were reported, the highest number once again in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Before the exams, authorities had issued statement that every bit of cheating would be greeted with the most severe penalty - the irreversible loss of centre recognition. Such a statement was a part of the Copy Mukt Abhiyaan, a campaign by the new Mahayuti government, which worked towards purging the system of examination of all fraudulent practice. This year, besides the team's appointment for any malpractice, drones were sent to the centres to make certain everyone took the standard path. ABOUT MAHARASHTRA CLASS 12 RESULT 2025 The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has declared the Class 12 board result on May 5, with an impressive 91.86% pass percentage across all streams. Over 15.13 lakh students appeared for the exam held from February 11 to March 11 at 3,373 centres across the state. Konkan division recorded the highest pass percentage at 96.74%, while Latur division was the lowest with 89.46%. The State Board has announced the de-recognition of the aforementioned 124 centres out of a total of 3773.

Recognition of 124 exam centres in Maharashtra under scanner due to cheating cases

As many as 124 examination centres across Maharashtra are under the scanner as cheating/malpractice cases have been recorded during the Higher Secondary Examination (HSC) conducted in February-March this year. Before the exams, the state education department had strictly warned that cheating cases would lead to a permanent ban in their recognition as an examination centre. Out of the 124 centres under scanner, 44 are in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division, 25 in Pune division, 19 in Nagpur division, 11 in Latur, 10 in Amravati, six in Nashik, five in Mumbai, three in Kolhapur Division and one in the Konkan division. The state had recorded a total of 367 malpractice cases in the HSC exams, of which the maximum cases were reported from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (214). Pune and Nagpur recorded 45 and 33 cases respectively, followed by Latur (29), Amravati (17), Nashik (12), Mumbai (9), Kolhapur (7), and only one case in Konkan. Director of Primary Education Sharad Gosavi on Monday said cheating cases at all the 124 centres would be scrutinised and their recognition will be permanently banned if the investigation finds merit in doing so. The state government had included this year's 'Copy Mukt Abhiyaan' initiative in the 100-day programme of the newly elected Mahayuti government in November last year. The programme aims to eliminate cheating and malpractice and promotes integrity among students. This year, in addition to flying squads teams and video surveillance of examination centres, drones were also used to ensure compliance with government directives.
