New Orleans police make another arrest in ongoing jail escape investigation
Another suspect accused of helping inmates escape from a New Orleans jail was arrested Friday, authorities said. The New Orleans Police Department said officers detained four people at a home, including Emmitt Weber, 28, who was arrested on suspicion of accessory after the fact of simple escape. Police said Weber helped two of the inmates after the jailbreak at the Orleans Parish Correctional Facility. Inmate Arrested In Connection With Orleans Justice Center Escape Weber is the latest suspect arrested for allegedly aiding those involved in the May 16 escape. As of Friday, five of the 10 escaped inmates were still at large. The most recent arrest was made when Corey Boyd was taken into custody Tuesday. Jermaine Donald, 42, faces charges of second-degree murder, aggravated battery, possession of a firearm or weapon by a felon and obstruction of justice. Antoine Massey, 32, faces charges of domestic abuse involving strangulation, theft of a motor vehicle and a parole violation. Derrick Groves, 27, faces three counts of attempted second-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder and battery of a correctional facility employee. Leo O. Tate Sr., 31, faces charges of simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, possession of a firearm or weapon by a felon, illegal carrying of a weapon, motor vehicle theft and multiple drug counts. Two women arrested for allegedly helping fugitives who broke out of New Orleans prison
Two women have been arrested for allegedly helping some of the 10 inmates who busted out of a New Orleans prison — including an accused murderer — as the manhunt for five of the escapees continues. Cortnie Harris, 32, and Corvanntay Baptiste, 38, are facing felony accomplice charges for allegedly helping some of the prisoners who were caught on security camera breaking out of the Orleans Parish Correctional Facility on Friday night, according to the Louisiana State Police. Before the Hollywood-esque escape, Harris had been in phone contact with one of the inmates who had not yet been captured, police said, without identifying which of the fugitives. Advertisement Harris is also accused of transporting two of the escapees — both still at large — around multiple locations in New Orleans. Now people are taking to social media to offer odds on who will be the last remaining out of the five still standing. Before the capture of Corey Boyd, 19, a Facebook user posted a mock up graphic with betting odds featuring Corey, Leo Tate, Derrick Groves, Antoine Massey, Jermaine Donald, and Lenton VanBuren. It reads: 'DOWN TO THE FINAL 6 ,LETS GET IT. Groves: +150 Boyd: +180 Donald: +200 Massey: +250 Tate: +300 VanBuren: +350 LOCK IN NOW.' The post caused a buzz on Reddit, with user IllustriousAnt485 posting: 'Lenton has that look in his eye where he is waiting for someone to act a certain way so he can change his mannerisms. Fifth escaped inmate from New Orleans jail recaptured after days on the run
The fifth of 10 inmate escapees who fled a New Orleans jail has been recaptured, authorities said Tuesday. Corey Boyd, who was briefly spotted last Friday hours after the jailbreak, was taken into custody, the Louisiana State Police said. Boyd, 19, was captured in New Orleans. He is accused of killing Brandon Fees during a car burglary in 2024. 'Boyd will ultimately be transported to a secure state facility outside of the area and booked for Simple Escape,' the state police said in a Facebook post. Boyd was originally jailed for second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, aggravated battery and threatening a public official. The 10 inmates escaped the Orleans Parish Correctional Facility on Friday night, which was recorded on the jail's surveillance footage.
