Football, horse racing, boxing – just some of the popular sports millions place bets on every week.
But convict catching? That's a new one on us.
In a premise straight out of a dystopian film, people are gambling on who the last escaped prisoner caught will be after 10 inmates busted out of a New Orleans jail last week.
Five who fled the Orleans Parish Correctional Facility through a hole in the toilet wall on Friday have already been caught.
Now people are taking to social media to offer odds on who will be the last remaining out of the five still standing.
Before the capture of Corey Boyd, 19, a Facebook user posted a mock up graphic with betting odds featuring Corey, Leo Tate, Derrick Groves, Antoine Massey, Jermaine Donald, and Lenton VanBuren.
It reads: 'DOWN TO THE FINAL 6 ,LETS GET IT. 1.Derrick Groves: +150 2.Corey Boyd: +180 3.Jermaine Donald: +200 4.Antoine Massey: +250 5.Leo Tate: +300 6.Lenton VanBuren: +350 LOCK IN NOW.'
The post caused a buzz on Reddit, with user IllustriousAnt485 posting: 'Lenton has that look in his eye where he is waiting for someone to act a certain way so he can change his mannerisms.
'He is a chameleon who stands for nothing and says whatever he thinks people want to hear.
'He will find a way to survive and get away. It's in his blood.
'Derrick has intelligence in his eyes but also has pride. His pride will be his downfall. More Trending
'The others are straight up cornballs who will be caught or go out with a bang. My money is on Lenton.'
III-Philosopher-9243 added: 'My fiance and I had done this between ourselves. I got Lenton lasting til the end, he's got Leo.'
Friday's jailbreak made headlines worldwide, while images of the tiny escape hole quickly spread across social media.
The inmates even left graffiti messages for prison guards to find, such as 'to easy LOL [sic]'.

Police storm Rivals set to arrest actor accused of assaulting ex-girlfriend

Just one hour after he filmed a scene starring Danny Dyer, an extra on TV show Rivals was arrested. Nigel Adams was reportedly led away in cuffs by six police officers while he was still in costume. The 45-year-old had been shooting a polo scene, with a second series of the hit Disney+ drama starring Emily Atack and David Tennant recently confirmed. Avon and Somerset Police are believed to have been tipped off that the former bricklayer was working on the Rivals set this week; hence, two cop cars showed up. His co-stars are said to have watched on in shock, with a source telling The Sun that it was 'very dramatic'. 'Everyone was in their costumes, and Danny was filming this polo scene when, an hour later, police suddenly turned up to arrest one of the extras,' added the insider. 'It was shocking.' Adams is said to have spent two nights in a cell before appearing in Bristol magistrates' court on Friday, accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend. The supporting actor, who has also appeared in Doctor Who and Casualty, is alleged to have assaulted her at a house in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, with cops called to the address on May 31 at 2am. In court, he entered no plea and was given conditional bail. He's due back in the city's crown court on July 7. In a statement, Rivals production company Happy Prince said: 'On the 4th June, the police visited the set regarding an unrelated matter involving a supporting artist. 'Production co-operated with the police. We do not have any further information as it is not connected to Rivals or to our production.' Corroborating their statement, Avon and Somerset Police confirmed a man from Locking, Somerset, had been arrested at Berkeley Castle on June 4, charged with assault and causing actual bodily harm. As well as the shows mentioned, Adams was also an extra in House of the Dragon and The Forsyte Saga. In 2022, he appeared in the movie Prizefighter: The Life of Jem Belcher, which starred Ray Winstone. More Trending Those close to Adams have now said he's fearing the end of his career as an extra due to the arrest. 'He'll be gutted because it could end his TV career, something he really loves doing,' said a friend. They added: 'He's a bricklayer by trade, but he's been doing more and more TV work; he's been in loads of stuff. 'Whenever he's in the background of a show, he gets all his family and friends to watch it.' This is a breaking news story, more to follow soon… Check back shortly for further updates. Everything we know as body found near UK airport in car 'abandoned for months'

A dead body was found in the back seat of a car parked near Gatwick Airport on Friday - locals claimed the car had been abandoned for months and was covered in dust A dead body has shockingly been discovered in the back seat of a car parked close to Gatwick Airport. The white BMW had reportedly been parked just a mile away from the major airport for months, but the corpse was only discovered on Friday. Ticket inspectors were also believed to have been in the area and slapped notices on the vehicle but failed to see the dead body inside the car. Forensic officers were spotted at the scene along with police as an investigation to establish how the person died and how their lifeless body was missed has been launched. ‌ ‌ How was the body found? The car was noticed after locals sent Crawley Borough Council multiple complaints to report a parking violation. The local council issued a warning notice on May 19 and detailed how the car was "untaxed", even slapping a note on the car that threatened it would be towed unless moved in a week. Despite this, the car is taxed until January 1, 2026, according to the government's vehicle tax site, and has a valid MOT until November 25. It is understood the alarm was raised by a recovery vehicle driver who went to take the car away. They called police to report a possible dead body inside the vehicle. How did the recovery vehicle driver spot the body? A person in a local Facebook group described the moment the recovery vehicle driver found the dead body. They claimed the driver "saw a man on the back seats, with a blanket over the front two seats to build a 'barrier' across as he was lying on the backseat - most likely was sleeping in the back". Another person added: "A recovery driver came this morning and smashed the back window to take the motor. As he did that he noticed the dead body on the back seats." Where was the dead body found? The vehicle was parked around a mile away from Gatwick Airport. It had been left at an industrial estate on Whittle Way in Crawley, around 2.3 miles away from Junction 10 of the M23. ‌ This road is home to several businesses and close to Parcelforce Worldwide's airport depot. How long has the body been there? It is unclear exactly how long the dead body had been left in the car - which was covered in dust. Some locals claimed the vehicle had been parked in the same spot since October last year. ‌ Other residents in a Facebook group shared how long they had seen the vehicle parked for. One person said: "I reported it about four months ago but the council only put stickers on it - but it has been there for eight months now." How did the person die? The circumstances around the tragic death have not been made public. It is unclear how the person died but Sussex Police confirmed the death is not currently being treated as suspicious. What have the police said? Police revealed an investigation into the shock discovery has been launched. A spokesman for Sussex Police said: "Police were called to Whittle Way in Northgate, Crawley, at around 10.30am on Friday, 6 June, to reports of a body found in a vehicle. "Enquiries are ongoing to identify the individual and establish the full circumstances of the situation."

Colombian presidential candidate 'fighting for life' after shooting

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video A Colombian presidential hopeful is fighting for his life after being shot at a campaign rally. A 15-year-old boy has been arrested following the assassination attempt on Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay, 39, in the Fontibon neighbourhood of Bogota yesterday. His wife, Maria Claudia Tarazona, wrote on X that her husband remains in a critical condition. She said: 'Miguel is fighting for his life at the moment. 'We pray to God to assist the hands of the doctors who are attending to him. I ask that we all come together in a prayer of support for Miguel's life. 'I place my faith in God.' Pictures shared on social media showed Senator Uribe covered in blood before being rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. A medical report said the politician remained in a 'critical' condition and is undergoing a 'neurosurgical and peripheral vascular procedure' at the Fundacion Santa Fe hospital. President Petro Gustavo cancelled a planned visit to France due to the 'seriousness of the events' and said respect for life was a 'red line'. He said: 'I hope that Miguel Uribe Turbay survives, that's what I want first and foremost, and that society should feel, before anything else, and that we should join our hearts and energy to help him get well.' The country's first leftist head of state promised a 'transparent' investigation focusing on identifying those who ordered the attack, as the government offered a £540,000 reward for information. Senator Uribe Turbay was intending to run for the right wing Democratic Centre Party in next year's presidential elections scheduled for May 31. His mother, a journalist, was murdered in 1991 during one of the nation's most turbulent periods. The mayor of Bogota, Carlos Fernando Galán, said he condemned what he called an affront on democracy and called on the authorities to identify those responsible as soon as possible. He told reporters that these were 'critical' moments for the senator and his family. 'We must increase protection to those who are participating in these [campaigning] activities. We also call for protection to his family to guarantee their security at this time.' He added: 'We must be capable as a country to reject not just violence but also language that can eventually lead to hatred.' More Trending Colombia's defence minister Pedro Sanchez said: 'I have ordered the Colombian military and police forces and intelligence agencies to deploy all their capabilities to urgently clarify the facts.' US Secretary of State Marco Rubio condemned the 'violent leftist rhetoric' behind the assassination attempt. He wrote: 'Having seen firsthand Colombia's progress over the past few decades to consolidate security and democracy, it can't afford to go back to dark days of political violence. President Petro needs to dial back the inflammatory rhetoric and protect Colombian officials. 'We stand in prayer with Miguel's family, loved ones, and his supporters. Those responsible for this attack must face justice.' Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@ For more stories like this, check our news page.
