Rajah Caruth wins NASCAR Truck race at Nashville in tense finish

Rajah Caruth has earned his first victory of the 2025 season and just the second of his career, fending off both Corey Heim and Layne Riggs in the closing laps at Nashville. Driving the No. 71 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet, Caruth grabbed the lead on pit road at the end of the second stage. The driver made the most of what his pit crew did for him, never surrendering the race lead. Advertisement "I didn't expect that at all," said Caruth. "Those guys were breathing down my neck the whole run. My pit crew won that race -- Jarius, Zico, Dawson, Josh, Cody -- they won that race for us. Thanks to them, thanks to everyone at the men and women at Spire Motorsports. We've been off this year but good to get a dub tonight, man. I'm out of breath." Heim is the winningest driver of the 2025 season with four wins in the first 11 races, including last weekend's event at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Speaking on the runner-up finish at Nashville, he said, "I feel like clean air was the thing (we needed) tonight. With the third stage being so straightforward, and the lack of strategy going green there, it was tough to come back from not having the lead. I slid through my box in the last stop and didn't do my guys any favors. Just something to reflect on -- on my part. "But big congrats to Rajah. He did an awesome job managing from the lead and I was really free behind him and he made pretty much the right choice every time as for where I was gonna go. It's nice racing against people that aren't going to wreck you, racing for the race lead." Layne Riggs finished a close third with Daniel Hemric fourth and Corey Day fifth. Kaden Honeycutt, Chandler Smith, Ty Majeski, Bayley Currey, and Grant Enfinger filled out the remainder of the top ten. Advertisement Kyle Busch, who had to fight back from a penalty for a restart violation, finished 15th. The only on-track accident occurred on Lap 55 when Jack Wood and Akinori Ogata spun. Riggs went on to win the opening stage while Heim claimed the Stage 2 win, adding another playoff point to his impressive total. While Caruth never lost the lead in the final 47-lap run, Heim certainly came close as he got to the outside of him with just six laps to go. Caruth ran him high and Heim chose to lift. From that point onward, he had his hands full with Riggs in the battle for second and never got back alongside Caruth. Corey Heim runs away with Truck Series race at Charlotte

May 24 - CONCORD, N.C. -- This time, Corey Heim didn't just slam the door on his NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series competition -- he nailed it shut. Heim's three previous 2025 wins notwithstanding, the driver of the No. 11 TRICON Garage Toyota has had difficulty closing out races with a dominant truck this season. That was emphatically not the case on Friday night, when Heim led 98 of 134 laps and beat runner-up Ross Chastain to the finish line by 6.229 seconds in the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Heim's first victory at Charlotte and his fourth of the season was the 15th of his career, tying him with Matt Crafton for 10th on the career list. At age 22, he is the youngest to reach the 15-win milestone. It was a perfect night. Heim swept the first two stages of the race and set the fastest lap, scoring a maximum 61 points to widen his series lead to a massive 100 points over second-place Chandler Smith. His margin of victory was the largest ever in the series at Charlotte. "I felt like we've had the speed the last couple years here, but circumstances haven't let us get it done," said Heim, who has won five of the last nine Truck Series races on intermediate speedways. "Obviously, it was such a good truck. I had to execute on my part. The pit crew did a great job. Just a really nice clean day. ... It feels great. It feels like we've had a lot of opportunities to do that this year, really. Just can't say enough about these guys. My team gave me a great Tundra, and we just really checked all of the boxes tonight. It feels great." Chastain was the best of three Neice Motorsports Chevrolet drivers in the top seven. Kaden Honeycutt ran third, and Matt Mills was seventh. But none of the Niece trucks could mount a challenge to the race winner, particularly on longer runs. "Best in class," Chastain said of his own effort. "The 11 (Heim) is the best in the field right now, and none of us had anything for him. The 7 (Kyle Busch), the 38 (Smith), the 34 (Layne Riggs)-it was a heck of a race (for second) back there between us, but we've got to make it last longer." Riggs and Busch came home fourth and fifth, respectively, followed by Grant Enfinger, Mills, Daniel Hemric, Rajah Caruth and Brandon Jones. Smith fell victim to a Lap 71 wreck involving pole winner Gio Ruggiero, reigning series champion Ty Majeski and Connor Mosack. The winner last week at North Wilkesboro, Smith was the first driver eliminated from the race and finished 34th. There were three cautions for 20 laps, two of the yellows for stage breaks. The only negative for Heim is that there are no more 1.5-mile intermediate speedways remaining on this season's Truck Series schedule. Next up for the trucks is the Rackley Roofing 200 at Nashville Superspeedway at 8 p.m. on May 30. Corey Heim untouchable in dominant NASCAR Truck win at Charlotte

Corey Heim now has 15 career NASCAR Truck Series wins, earning his fourth victory of the season in an absolutely dominant performance at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Heim swept the stages and led most of the race, cruising to the win. At the finish line, Heim was over six seconds clear of runner-up finisher Ross Chastain. "It's nice to be far enough away where someone can't clean me out," said Heim, who has faced some bitter losses in other races where he was the clear favorite this year. He ended up leading 98 of 134 laps at Charlotte. Advertisement "Just super thankful for TRICON Garage, Toyota -- this thing was obviously really good,' he said. 'I felt like we've had the speed in the last couple of years here, just haven't been able to get it done. Just such a good truck. Had to execute on my part. The pit crew did a great job. Just a really nice, clean day. Pumped up about this one. Feel like we gave a couple away the last two weeks, but we redeemed ourselves tonight." Behind Heim and Chastain, Kaden Honeycutt finished third, Layne Riggs fourth, and Kyle Busch fifth. Grant Enfinger, Matt Mills, Daniel Hemric, Rajah Caruth, and Brandon Jones filled out the remainder of the top ten. "Best in class," said Chastain when reflecting on his night. "Heck of an effort for Niece Motorsports across the board -- three (trucks) in the top seven. That's what we look for. We look for competition across all three trucks for Al [Niece, owner]. And Al is super happy to get a ton of points and just have fast trucks." Speaking more on Heim, he added: "They're the best in the field right now. None of us had anything for them. The #7 [Busch], the #34 [Riggs] -- we're all racing amongst each other. Heck of a race back there with us." The run to the finish Corey Heim, TRICON Garage Toyota Corey Heim, TRICON Garage Toyota James Gilbert / Getty Images James Gilbert / Getty Images Advertisement At the start of the final stage, it was actually Honeycutt in control after beating Heim off pit road. On restarts, the battle for the lead was frantic and this was no different as Heim cleared Honeycutt, only to then have to fight Chastain for the lead. Soon after, the first and only wreck of the night took place as Gio Ruggiero got into Chandler Smith. Smith collided with Ty Majeski and both trucks spun wildly down the frontstretch. Connor Mosack also wrecked trying to avoid the incident. The race resumed with 57 laps to go, which wasn't quite within the fuel window. As Heim drove away from the field, Riggs and Honeycutt were the first to dive to pit road with 31 laps to go. Heim wasn't going to let them enjoy a nice undercut, pitting the very next lap and bringing Cup drivers Busch and Chastain with him. However, some trucks chose to push the run as far as they could in hopes of finding a lucky caution. Caruth led the race until he finally pitted with 20 laps to go as that caution never came. Advertisement Heim reclaimed the lead with over five seconds between him and Chastain, slowly building on it over the course of the final 20 laps.
