KCAU 9 celebrates 2025's Best of the Class

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — KCAU 9 is celebrating the graduating high school seniors who are the top of their class. More than 100 seniors gathered at the Orpheum Theatre on Thursday for KCAU 9's Best of the Class. KCAU 9 started the program in 1983 to recognize Siouxland students' academic excellence. This is the 42nd year that KCAU 9 has brought all of Siouxland's high school valedictorians together for a special sendoff. Arnolds Park Amusement Park introduces new attractions for the summer While at the Orpheum, the students took part in the taping of specially produced senior salutes that will air on KCAU 9 over the coming weeks. They were treated to lunch with a speaker afterward. This year's keynote speaker is Corey Westra, the commissioner of the Great Plains Athletic Conference. In the afternoon, there was a special group video of the students forming a '25 as they toss their caps to celebrate their graduation year. We'll have more on this story later tonight. SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — With March Madness less then a week away, Siouxland is getting ready to host its own basketball championship. The South Sioux City Area Chamber of Commerce & Tourism hosted a coffee hour Friday morning at the Tyson Events Center, as a way to welcome the NAIA women's basketball tournament. This will be Sioux City's 28th year hosting the tournament, and NAIA officials believe the Tyson Events Center to be the right spot for the tournament. AAA to activate 'Tow To Go' service ahead of St. Patrick's Day 'We've had some phenomenal tournaments in here with some big crowds, loud, high energy, buzzer beaters, all those things from start to finish,' Local Co-Tournament Director Corey Westra said. Sioux City to host NAIA Women's Volleyball National Championship for 4 more years

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Sioux City will be the host of the NAIA Women's Volleyball National Championship for four more years. According to a release from the Oak View Group, the Tyson Events Center will be the home to the National Championship for four more years. This agreement means the tournament will continue to take place at the Tyson Events Center until 2028. 'As women's athletics continues to explode in popularity, we are proud to be on the forefront of that growth through our longstanding partnership with the NAIA,' said general manager of the Tyson Events Center Chad Smidt. 'We couldn't ask for a better partner in the NAIA and can't wait to see what the future holds as we continue to develop and grow the women's volleyball national championship in Sioux City.' The NAIA tournament has been a Sioux City staple since 2008, and NAIA says that every year the tournament averages around 6,650 attendees. Affordable housing a point of emphasis for Sioux City 'We are thrilled to extend the contract to host the NAIA Women's Volleyball National Championship in Sioux City,' said Corey Westra, co-tournament director and commissioner of the Great Plains Athletic Conference. 'The growth and excitement around volleyball in Sioux City and the surrounding area has been a direct result of this prestigious championship being here since 2008. Hosting this event is a tremendous honor and continues our long-standing tradition of being a strong partner with the NAIA as a high-caliber championship host community.' The NAIA Women's Volleyball National Championship features 24 teams that compete in a seven-day long single-elimination tournament.
