Cork Builders Providers managing director named 'Munster champion' for construction services
The managing director of the biggest single builders' merchant in Ireland and Britain has been honoured as a 'Munster champion' by Guaranteed Irish for his services to the construction sector over almost half a century. Dan Twomey is a renowned figure in the construction supply and merchant business. In 1990, he played a pivotal role in establishing Cork Builders Providers. Under Dan's leadership, Cork Builders Providers has grown to become the largest single builders' merchants' site in Ireland and the UK, with a flagship location in Togher. The business employs 128 staff across Cork. Mr Twomey was appointed to the board of Grafton Merchanting ROI in 2005. He also reestablished Heaton Steel in Cork before becoming managing director of Cork Builders Providers in 2008. 'Dan Twomey exemplifies what it means to be a Guaranteed Irish business leader — deeply rooted in community, relentlessly focused on quality, and committed to supporting Irish jobs," said Guaranteed Irish chief executive Brid O'Connell. "We're thrilled to have him as our Munster Champion and look forward to his contributions during Construction Month this September.' Guaranteed Irish will host its leading construction event in Dublin on September 24. Mr Twomey will join a panel of industry experts at the Dublin event, titled 'Built in Ireland, Powered by Purpose: Connecting Construction, Facilities, and Energy.'

Green-fingered prepare to flock to Cork for blooming great garden festival
There will be 25 spectacular show gardens to showcase outdoor living, luscious garden design and to inspire potential home improvements. The team at the Pavilion Garden Centre in Ballygarvan both created and maintained the gardens which are a constant source of inspiration and innovation by combining imaginative design with practical planting. Mallow Home and Garden Festival will take place on Friday, May 23 to Sunday, May 25 at Cork Racecourse in Mallow. This year the festival will feature a huge gathering of specialist nurseries from across Ireland, offering everything from rare and unusual plants to beloved garden staples, all with expert growers on hand to offer advice. The Irish Specialist Nursery Association are back this year with a range of plants on offer such as herbaceous perennials, trees, shrubs, clematis, ferns and roses. Free gardening talks and demonstrations will take place across the weekend and one of Ireland's best-known gardening voices Peter Dowdell returns to offer his expert advice alongside another heavyweight in the Irish gardening scene, Paraic Horkan. It is expected that over 200 exhibitors will be there across the weekend to offer advice on all things garden designs, home improvements and artisan foods. Cork Builders Providers return once again as key festival partners, and they will offer exclusive show discounts across the weekend. Catering will be available on site throughout the weekend and parking will be free. A shuttle bus services from Mallow Train Station will also be available. Admission is €20 per person; however, children go free.
