Former court clerk sentenced for corruption in KwaMhlanga
A former KwaMhlanga court clerk has been sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment, suspended for five years, after pleading guilty to six corruption charges on Wednesday, August 6.
Cornelius Mametse (43) was convicted and sentenced by the KwaMhlanga Regional Court for offences committed in 2022.
According to Mpumalanga Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Magonseni Nkosi, Mametse solicited money from six victims, claiming the funds were needed for sheriff services or legal representation. Instead, he used the money for personal gain.

'The Hawks' Middelburg-based Serious Corruption Investigation Unit took up the case after it was reported in 2023. The investigation linked Mametse to all six charges, resulting in his guilty plea and subsequent sentence,' said Nkosi.
The provincial head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Major General Nico Gerber, condemned the abuse of authority.

'We cannot allow such activities to happen to victims who are already affected by crime,' he said, stressing the need to protect vulnerable individuals from exploitation.
