Homer man charged after fleeing from police

TOWN OF HOMER, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A Homer man is facing several charges, including 15 traffic and vehicle violations, after fleeing from police. On April 4, at approximately 8:06 p.m., an officer from the Cortland County Sheriff's Office was patrolling in the area of Route 11 in the Town of Homer when they attempted to conduct a traffic stop for an equipment violation. The operator of the vehicle, 27-year-old Gavin Dunn, failed to comply with the officer's orders and fled the scene. The officer was unable to safely follow Dunn and eventually lost sight of the vehicle. Shortly after, officers from the Cortland City Police located the vehicle in the City of Cortland. Dunn refused to comply, fleeing in his vehicle for a second time. According to police, Dunn committed several vehicle and traffic violations while fleeing from law enforcement. During the pursuit, his vehicle left the roadway, causing property damage. Dunn was taken into custody and transported to Upstate Medical Center to be treated for his injuries. Dunn later turned himself in at the Cortland County Sheriff's Office. He is facing the following charges: Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in the Third Degree Obstruction of Governmental Administration in the Second Degree Resisting Arrest Driving While Intoxicated Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree Two counts of Reckless Driving 15 Miscellaneous Vehicle and Traffic Infractions Dunn was issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Cortlandville Court on April 28 and to the Town of Homer Court on May 6. CORTLAND COUNTY, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — On Tuesday, March 25, at around 12:35 p.m., officers of the Cortland County Sheriff's Office responded to a car crash in the area of McGraw-Marathon Road and Sperry Road in the Town of Freetown. The officers discovered that the driver of a 2009 Toyota Camry had a medical incident, causing the driver to go off the road. The car hit a utility pole and came to a stop in a field. The driver of the car was transported by ambulance to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center for minor injuries. The Cortland County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by Marathon Fire Department, Marathon Ambulance (MAVAC), CNY Towing, and New York State Electric& Gas (NYSEG). CITY OF CORTLAND, N.Y. (WVT/WBGH) – A Cortlandville man was arrested last week after allegedly subjecting an elderly victim to abuse. On March 5, Officers from the Cortland County Sheriff's Office responded to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center, located at 134 Homer Avenue in the City of Cortland, for an elder abuse allegation. During an investigation, it was determined that 48-year-old Robert Morris had allegedly physically abused an elderly victim who was known to him. Morris was arrested and charged with Endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent/Physically Disabled Person, a Felony, and Harassment, a violation. He was processed at the Sheriff's Office and arraigned through the Centralized Arraignment Process. Morris was released. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Cortlandville Court on March 12. TOWN OF WILLET, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – The Cortland County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of an elderly man Thursday who's accused of sexual abuse from 2022 to 2024. 84-year-old Donald Griest, of the Town of Willet in Cortland County, is accused of subjecting a victim known to him to inappropriate sexual contact between January 2022 and November 2024. CCSO initially received the complaint in 2024 for sexual abuse. Griest was charged with two counts of rape in the first degree, sexual abuse in the first degree, forcible touching, and unlawful imprisonment in the second degree. Griest was arraigned through the Centralized Arraignment Process, where he was released on his own recognizance. his next Court appearance is scheduled for March 6 at 6:00 PM in the Town of Willet Court Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
